B- Professional Information

1 – Overall aims of course


This course aims to instruct the students about the steps necessary to produce a ship
in a shipyard. It also aims to introduce them with the required materials to build the
hull. Moreover, it gives them a general idea about the planning of shipyards in
general. Building and launching slipways are among the main topics that a student
should learn about any shipyard.

2 – Intended learning outcomes of course (ILOs)

a- Knowledge and understanding:


The course permits the students to:
a1- Learn the different terminology concerned with shipbuilding technology.
a2- Understand the different steel cutting as well as forming procedures.
a3- Present them the different ways of welding.

b- Intellectual skills
b1- Recognize the different sequences for building ships.
b2- Be aware of the different organizing policies in a shipyard.
b3- Use of CAD in ship production.

c- Professional and practical skills


c1- Visiting different shipyard sites to be familiar with the actual building sequence.
c2- Be acquainted with Material handling in a shipyard.
c3- Practice welding of some small parts.
d- General and transferable skills
d1- Use of text books to specify what he needs related to the course.
d2- Prepare reports in certain topics related to the course.
