Solution:-: I) Tan La/ra Tan (2X 3.14X50X32X10) /1.8 84.31 Cot 0.0996 Z 2 + Z 10.1745 For Motor

This document contains an assignment problem from a course on electrical drives given to a student. The problem asks to identify the operating mode and calculate the developed torque of a separately excited DC motor controlled by a single-phase fully controlled rectifier. The motor parameters and circuit configuration are provided. The solution shows the calculations for identifying the operating mode as discontinuous conduction at 450 rpm. It then calculates the voltage, current and developed torque at 450 rpm and 1500 rpm.

DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

BABA GHULAM SHAH BADSHAH UNIVERSITY, RAJOURI

Assignment of ELECTRICAL DRIVES

Course Code:- ERE-722

SAQLAIN MUSHTAQ 38-ERE-2016

EXERCISE 5.38
A 220V, 1200rpm,15A Separately excited motor has armature
resistance and inductance of 1.8ohm and 32 mH
respectively.This motor is controlled by a single -phase fully
controlled rectifier with an ac source voltage of 230
V,50HZ.identify the mode and calculate developed torque for :
alpha=60 and speed =450rpm
Alpha=60 and speed=1500rpm

SOLUTION:-

i) ᴓ=tan-1ꙍLa/Ra

=tan-1 (2x 3.14x50x32x10-3)/1.8

ᴓ=84.31

cotᴓ=0.0996

Z2=𝑅𝑎^2 + ꙍ𝐿𝑎2

Z=10.1745

For Motor
K=E/wm

E=220-15x1.8

E=193

K=E/wm

=(193/1200)x(60/2x3.14)

K=1.536

RaVm/Zk = 37.46

From equation

Wmc = (Ra Vm/zk)sin(X-ᴓ)(1+e-3.14cotᴓ)/e-3.14 cotᴓ-1)

=14.81 rad/sec or 145 rpm

Since motor speed is greater than wmc , the drive is operating under
discontinuous conduction

At 450 rpm

E=(450/1200)X193

=72.3 v

Va = E+Ia Ra

=72.3 + 15x1.8

=99.3 v

Ia = (Va-E)/Ra

Ia= 15A
T=Kia

=1.536X15

T=23.04 N-m

ii) At 1500 rpm

E=24.25V

Va=E+IaRa

Va=51.25 V

Ia= (Va-E)/Ra

Ia=10.41A

T=Kia

T=1.536x10.41

T=15.9N-m
