According to the research, the components of an eggshell are almost
entirely made of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) crystals. It is a
semipermeable membrane which means that air and moisture can pass
through its pores. The shell has a thin outermost coating called the
bloom or cuticle that helps keep out bacteria and dust. There’s a
special property that’s unique to all solid materials. This is the
ability to be brittle. Brittleness is a property of solid materials to
break into pieces. More examples of this include glass and ceramics.
An eggshell is almost entirely made up of calcium (Ca), carbon (C) and
oxygen (O) combined, making a compound called calcium carbonate or
CaCO₃. (Alameda, Cruz, Andrade, Pimentel, Gonzales, Olivera & Bantug,
2017)
The chalks have similar compounds to make it. That is why the
researchers thought it would be possible to make chalks out of
eggshells to make it cheaper and easy–to-do chalks using recyclable
materials. This study is made to help schools, particularly public
schools who have less money.
The chalk is a white porous sedimentary rock, a form of sedimentary
rock composed of mineral calcite. It forms under reasonably deep
marine conditions from the gradual accumulation of minute calcite
plates shed belonging to the division of haptophytes. They function as
a special calcium carbonate. In this investigatory project, we study
the effectiveness of eggshells as an alternative ingredient in chalk
production. The study is very efficient in these days because many
people are in need of chalk. The components of chalk are so complex
that it has the capacity to make other things beside chalk itself
(Making Chalks Using Eggshells, 2019)
Eggshell came from eggs which are said to be the universal ingredient
in cooking, therefore we use it in our daily life. However, most spate
straightaway throw eggshells after getting their yolks and whites
without knowing that these eggshells sewer be very useful and can be
turned into so legion(predicate) usable forms that can help economic
crisis and lessen the contaminant in the environment, such as
crosspatch. Eggshells can be recycled in a number of useful ways
somewhat the house, garden, or even in school(The Effectiveness of
Chicken Eggshell as an Alternative Source of Commercial Chalk, 2013).9
slap-up shipway To Recycle Eggshells stated that some people are
moving away from commercial products in favor of much instinctive
alternatives. There is no assurance that people can stomach continuous
supply of a commercial chalk that is wherefore in this study;
researchers tried to find a better, low-cost and more convenient way
of producing chalk which is peer in quality to commercial chalk. Chalk
is a soft, white, poriferous aqueous rock, a form of limestone
composed of the mineral calcite, a atomic number 20 carbonate, or
CaCO3 which comprises more than 4% of the earths pertness and is
found.(James,2011)
But eggshell quality is not as much of a problem in cooler
environments as compared to hot environments. One of the contributing
factors causing poorer eggshell quality in hot weather is hens not
consuming adequate feed. This can lead to problems in body weight, egg
production, egg size, and eggshell quality if measures are not taken
to assure adequate daily nutrient and energy consumption. When
environmental temperature becomes excessively hot, feed intake
decreases and energy becomes the first limiting factor to the hen
(Butcher & Miles,1990)
Eggshell quality is less affected in cooler environments compared to
hot environments but since Philippines is a tropical country it’s hard
to find a high quality egg shell. To find a good quality shell is
necessary since the quality of the chalk depends on it. The reason why
the researchers chose this study is because they want to provide a
less-expensive product to be used in school since most of public
schools use chalks to teach students, The researchers will randomly
pick one male teacher and one female teacher as a subject. The
researchers will visit each of the five Schools namely TCCES, Cogon
Elementary school, DCPNHS, City East and Dampas School which is all
located at Bohol, Philippines for the subjects therefore, this study
used a random device to pick the subjects. Researchers will use the
same blackboards for the testing of this chalk product, researchers
will also refine the eggshells using the traditional method, like
using a mortar and pestle to grind down a few eggshells until they
reach a powder-like state without leaving a trace of large eggshell
pieces. Using coffee blenders or different kinds of technology is also
acceptable but using a few materials than using a machine which will
need a lot of money. You can save if you use recycled materials like
the eggshells which will be what the researchers will use in this IP.
We won’t need electricity as well, so it’ll save more power. The
researchers’ goal is to save money, time and effort (Eggshalk,2007)
The experiment will test the strength, shape and durability of the
chalk and these outcomes will be compared to a commercial chalk that
can be commonly found in malls and shops.
To sum it all, Chalks and eggshells have similar components
specifically Calcium Carbonate, therefore there is a high possibility
to remake chalk but only using a more cheap and recycled substance
which are chicken egg shells. You should pick wisely of the shells
since there are different kind of eggshells. The entire purpose of
this study is to help public schools and also teachers. This study is
to show everybody that there are many uses of eggshells, not only for
skincare product, cleaner, or house plant booster but also chalk. As
students we want to adapt and become proficient in recycling even the
small stuff.
