Solidworks Spanner Simulation Guide

This document summarizes an MD lab assignment on analyzing stresses on a spanner model in Solidworks. It describes the following steps: [1] Sketching the spanner model; [2] Extruding it to make it solid; [3] Setting up a static simulation study; [4] Applying material properties of alloy steel; [5] Fixing the inner sides as boundary conditions; [6] Applying a 25 Newton force on the upper side; [7] Running the analysis. The results showed maximum stress at the upper left end, decreasing stresses moving away, and minimum stress at the right face, with no failure at 25N force.

Step 1: Sketching
First of all draw a spanner. For this purpose, open Solidworks as part and sketch spanner using
Square and Circle. Trim Extra parts.

Step 2: Extrusion
Extrude the part to 10 mm to make it solid.
Step 3: Simulation
Now, go to simulation tab and select New Study Select static and Click Ok.

Step 4: Material Selection

Select material by clicking Apply material. Choose alloy steel, Apply and Close.
Step 5: Fixing Geometry
Click Fixture advisors, select fixed geometry. choose inner sides of spanner that will tighten the
bolt. Click OK.

Step 6: Load Application

Now select external loads and choose force. Choose the upper side and enter 25 Newton amount.
Click Ok
Step 7: Run analysis
Click Run, It will take some time and after that, stresses will be shown

Comments:
From this analysis, we observed that the maximum stress is present at upper left end of spanner.
And it decreases as we move away from the left end. Minimum stress is available at right most
face of the spanner. Also We observed that the spanner does not fail at the force of 25 N.
