SCENE ONE: INT. ASH’S BEDROOM-DUSK

(Ashley)

MUSIC: HARD ROCK, ‘NO ONE LIKE YOU, BY THE SCORPIONS.

SOUND: PEN WRITING AGAINST PAPER

ASHLEY: I had art today, she was sat on the table

opposite me. I think I spent more time
watching her paint then doing my own if
I’m being honest.

SOUND: FLICK OF A LIGHTER START UP AND THE BURNING

OF A CIGERETTE

ASHLEY: This week has been a rough one, I just

don’t understand why the only family I
have left don’t give a shit. They are too
busy fighting with each other to remember
that I exist half the time, the other half
of the time I am the reason they are
fighting.

SCENE TWO: INT. ASH’S KITCHEN

SOUND: NOTEBOOK CLOSING AND THE SOUND OF ASHLEY
WALKING INTO THE KITCHEN, SOUND OF TOAST
POPPING AND PLATES CLASHING.

NARRATOR: Alone again, I can’t remember a time they

all sat together, the cold November air
coming from the gap between the window and
the brickwork, moonlight reflecting onto
Ashley’s face, the only light around. Or
at least that’s what Ashley thought.
SOUND: DOORBELL RINGS
4

ASHLEY: Bugsy, what are you doing here?

BUGSY: Ash, hi. I’m sorry I came round without

any notice, can I… can I come in?
ASHLEY: (Breaths in) Huh …

BUGSY: I had some questions about art class, is

now a good time?

ASHLEY: oh uh… yeah that’s… uh yeah come in.

BUGSY: ok, thank you.

SOUND: DOOR CLOSES, FOOTSTEPS CAN BE HEARD

BUGSY: Is anyone home?

ASHLEY: uh no, is that ok?

BUGSY: (laughs) of course its ok, it just seemed

quiet.

ASHLEY: (sarcastically laughs) yeah, its not

normally, usually there’s shouting.

BUGSY: (stutters) oh… I’m sorry.

ASHLEY: No, its fine honestly, I’m not even sure

why I said that.

(small silence)

What was it you wanted to ask?

5

BUGSY: Well actually, I was coming to say that my

friends saw you looking in art
ASHLEY: oh-

BUGSY: and before you can say anything, they told

me to come and talk to you because, well
actually I’m not really sure why but, here
I am, I guess.

SOUND: MUFFLED ARGUING

ASHLEY: quick!! Get In there.

SOUND: DOOR SHUTTING QUICKLY

NARRATOR: And even shut inside of Ashley’s wardrobe,

she could somehow picture what was going
on downstairs. She realised what her
friends meant and knew what she had to do.

ASHLEY: They’ve left again, I’m sorry you had to

witness that.

BUGSY: I understand, since my dad left, something

in my mum did to. She does nothing for us
and I had to grow up pretty quick in order
to take care of myself, she acknowledges
im there but I don’t think we had has a
proper conversation in like 3 years.

ASHLEY: (laughs) I guess we are both pretty messed

up then.
MUSIC: Kiss by price.
BUGSY: (continues to laugh) yeah, I guess we are.
6

NARRATOR: And Bugsy did what she had to do, Ashley

spent 4 days at her house and they ended
up making a rota of whose they will stay
at each day. Ashley finally felt
comfortable at school and joined Bugsy’s
friend group. Little did she know that
November evening her life would have
changed this much.
