Modesty and God's Image

The document discusses how Adam and Eve realized they were naked after eating the forbidden fruit and tried to cover themselves with fig leaves. God then clothed them with animal skins. It argues that modesty in dress is important, as our bodies were created in God's image and are meant for marriage. Revealing private areas violates scripture showing such things are only for marriage. Modesty starts from the heart and respects the spiritual realities of marriage between Christ and the church, and man and wife becoming one flesh.

How we should clothe ourselves

Mark 4:19-20
And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things
entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. And these are they which are
sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some
thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

Being modest is basic to loving God and others as ourselves. The cultures and
traditions we learn in this world should not sway us in this.
In the holy Bible, before Adam and Eve sinned we can learn:

Genesis 1:26-27
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and
over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God
created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female
created he them.

also,

Genesis 2:18-24
And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an
help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field,
and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them:
and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam
gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for
Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep
to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh
instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a
woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones,
and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and
they shall be one flesh.
In the beginning, after Adam and Eve sinned by eating the fruit, they knew they
were naked. This is the first problem after eating the fruit they had to deal with
in a fallen state. Not murder, not stealing, not wicked hate, but that physical
aspect of their bodies they had, being made in God's image. And there was not
even another man or woman alive but them, not a single other soul to hide their
nakedness from. But they knew something was wrong.

Genesis 3:7
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they
sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

Here we see that Adam and Eve tried to clothed themselves. Like their
descendants today that do not clothe themselves properly, they did not either.
The holy scriptures testify:

Genesis 3:21
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed
them.

God rejected how they clothed themselves and personally had to cloth them! As
born again children of God we need to learn from this. This issue is a very much
a part of how we are made in the image of God. God made us male and female.
Men and women are made in God's image. Not just a man alone or a woman
alone is made in God's image, but male and female. This is a very serious issue
to violate. God made us, from our heart to our flesh (the temple of the Holy
Spirit), and this needs to be respected in our hearts and action.

Fleshly unity is a natural, God created, physical desire to the sight of nakedness,
even hinted at, or partial, of the opposite gender. This mirrors a very serious
spiritual reality:

Ephesians 5:22-33
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is
the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the
body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own
husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the
church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of
water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot,
or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought
men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For
no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord
the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this
cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his
wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak
concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so
love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

1 Corinthians 6:15-20
Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members
of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that
he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he
that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is
without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which
ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore
glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Every form of our private areas (even the slighest), and every exposed flesh that attacts
eyes to these areas we fully understand in our fleshly mind. This fleshly intelligence is
not the problem. The problem with immodesty starts in the heart.

Our private body parts ("secrets") are only for marriage. God takes this very seriously.
Here is just a selection of scriptures showing this:

When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to
deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand,
and taketh him by the secrets: Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity
her.
Deuteronomy 25:11-12

And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept
close, and she be defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither she be taken with
the manner; And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and
she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife,
and she be not defiled: Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall
bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil
upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of
memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance. And the priest shall bring her near, and set
her before the LORD: And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the
dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water:
And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and uncover the woman's head,
and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering: and the
priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the curse: And the priest shall
charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if
thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband, be thou
free from this bitter water that causeth the curse: But if thou hast gone aside to another
instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside
thine husband: Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the
priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy
people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell; And this water
that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh
to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen. And the priest shall write these curses in a
book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water: And he shall cause the woman to
drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall
enter into her, and become bitter. Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of
the woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the LORD, and offer it upon the
altar: And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and
burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water. And
when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be
defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the
curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh
shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people. And if the woman be not
defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed. This is the law of
jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband, and is defiled; Or
when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall
set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.
Numbers 5:13-30

For a woman to physically show what should be hidden to the world casually, violates
important truths.

Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Let her be as the
loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou
ravished always with her love.
Proverbs 5:18-19
I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that
ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.
Song of Solomon 2:7

I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that
ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.
Song of Solomon 3:5

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he
please.
Song of Solomon 8:4

SPIRITUAL HEART DISEASE

A murder is physically carried out in the flesh, but starts in the heart. Stealing is carried
out in the flesh, but starts in the heart, so it is with a person who has a habit of dressing
immodestly. The heart directs the hand on the clothing chosen.

If we ignore our sins it does not change the truth that it affects our relationship with our
heavenly father. The Bible is clear in many places that for God to listen to our prayers, we
must first listen to his word. Husbands are taught this even in how they treat their wives
in 1 Peter 3 that I list a little later in this file. Here are a couple more:

Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy,
that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and
your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
Isaiah 59:1-2

He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.
Proverbs 28:9

We should be soft in our hearts to our Lord to be changed:

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them
shall have mercy. Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart
shall fall into mischief.
Proverbs 28:13-14

Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all,
that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.
Acts 11:23
Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your
hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
Hebrews 3:7-8

But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened
through the deceitfulness of sin.
Hebrews 3:13

Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I
will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.
Jeremiah 2:35

I know how very easy it is to make excuses and to be hardened by sin. I deeply
desire to avoid this. In order for me to marry a sister in Christ I want to make
sure I first am pure toward her, and she is willing to have a pure and faithful
relationship.

The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
1 Timothy 5:2

I myself intend to dress modestly no matter what happens. I want to be humble

and changed. I want to be sorry for my sins.

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them
shall have mercy.
Proverbs 28:13
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow
of the world worketh death.
2 Corinthians 7:10

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1 John 1:8

One of the things that has driven me to very low despair before is many professing
Christian women who dress in revealing clothing but who also act self righteous. Maybe
it is not their main reason to dress the way they do, but they know this is a temptation to
men. I have heard women say it is all the men's fault while refusing to admit their own
sin. I see religious people who have been unkind, uncaring, and unsorrowful for what
they do. Before, when I would despair like this it was very easy for me to ignore the Bible
and then sin, including lusting after women. I am very ashamed to even say this.

I was wrong to lust after women. I must be honest about this. I do not want to follow
such worldliness. I hate it. I know the bitter taste of sin's deception. What it seems to
promise is a lie. It is a perversion of how God made people. It destroys. I desire the godly
sorrow with God's power to help me forever.

When I was a young teenager we had a kitten. I really liked to take care of it, and I liked
it a lot. One day I was in a family argument, I felt very bad how I was treated and was
very angry and upset. I went outside to take the garbage out, and I slammed the door in
my anger. However the kitten used to like waiting by the door to run outside when
people opened the door. I did not realize what I had done until it was to late. I fatally
wounded the kitten. As soon as I saw this, I could not hold myself together, I was crying
and felt worse than I can describe. I begged my dad to take me and the kitten to the
veternarian. However, it did no good. We went but the kitten died. I realized that our
anger and frustration can be deadly, and that I needed to be changed. I did not have the
presence of mind because I was angry, and so an inocent little pet died at my hand. I
could not bear in my heart what I had done. Sinning in anger or frustration is easy, but
can have consequences we do not have the ability to realize. This is also what I did by
turning my mind from the Bible, when I was frustrated at women for not caring how they
affected me. I know this is wrong, and I must always keep my focus on God who never
lets me down. I am being transformed by the renewing of my mind, having a changed
heart. Instead of having excuses in my heart, I desire responsibility, and humility before
my only hope, God. I want a responsive conscience.
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
1 Timothy 4:2

A real Christian should have a soft heart to the scriptures and be willing to be their
brother and sister's keeper, to bear one anothers burdens, and be a help not a stumbling
block in the flesh. I want to obey God in this even if I must be alone and go against peer
pressure. I do not want to pretend that worldly clothing does not matter.

Here is some more holy scripture that shows that we should care about others, this also
applies to if we are a help or a temptation in how we dress,

And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I
my brother's keeper?
Genesis 4:9

Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man
put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
Romans 14:13

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:2

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem
other better than themselves.
Philippians 2:3
Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of
many, that they may be saved.
1 Corinthians 10:32-33

This last one reminds me that a professing Christian woman can dress "for herself", and
refuse to be sorry to do so. If she shares the real true gospel with men, because of this she
is going to hinder the words she speaks to them. Of course if men also do this it hinders
what they say, including myself. I want to not do this.

This reminds me of another scripture:

But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our
Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who
should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves,
sensual, having not the Spirit. But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy
faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the
mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a
difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the
garment spotted by the flesh.
Jude 1:17-23

How can I be effective in obeying this scripture if I ignore this issue. To do this impacts
not only my life, but those souls I wish to win to the Lord. I would be a hypocrite. I have
been a hypocrite, and intend not to go back to that.

Should we not have soft hearts when someone asks to have a temptation removed by how
we dress?

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be
intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
James 3:17

Here is some scriptural examples of hard hearts:

Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and
thou hadst a whore's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.
Jeremiah 3:3

Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I
have done no wickedness.
Proverbs 30:20

How do prostitutes (harlots) attract men? Mainly by sight. Prostitues do wear

clothes. But they calculate (in their hearts) to reveal the form of what should be
private areas, and skin that is close by the private areas. Immodesty constantly
teases to make the private parts of the body into public parts. We should not be
stubborn about such sin.

And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: Now is she without, now in
the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.) So she caught him, and kissed him, and
with an impudent face said unto him, I have peace offerings with me; this day have I
payed my vows.
Proverbs 7:10-14

Not only was this woman stubborn about her sin, she would speak religiously.

Here is another example from the holy scriptures:

And of thy garments thou didst take, and deckedst thy high places with divers colours,
and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so.
Ezekiel 16:16

How weak is thine heart, saith the Lord GOD, seeing thou doest all these things, the
work of an imperious whorish woman;
Ezekiel 16:30
Again, an issue first of the heart.

Sin is easy to do. We should take caution with it seriously.

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us
lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with
patience the race that is set before us,
Hebrews 12:1

Worldly pressure is to expose more and more, closer and closer to the private parts of
our bodies. More skin, more form. In we conform in this even a little, it is sin.

And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God
knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the
sight of God.
Luke 16:15

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not
conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye
may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:1-2

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and
widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
James 1:27

Immodesty is not of faith, it is sin.

And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever
is not of faith is sin.
Romans 14:23

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
James 4:17

Immodesty is not virtuous, it is shameful and harms marriage.

A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as
rottenness in his bones.
Proverbs 12:4

This reminds me of another scripture, a testimony of Solomon, the wisest man

(other than Jesus) to ever have lived:

And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her
hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken
by her.
Ecclesiastes 7:26

It always goes back to the heart.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the
LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and
according to the fruit of his doings.
Jeremiah 17:9-10

But God can help us with our hearts in this life, if we let him!
All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the
Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the
Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and
ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:27-30

And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the
fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a
people prepared for the Lord.
Luke 1:17

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
Luke 2:19

And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast
thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said
unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's
business? And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. And he went
down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept
all these sayings in her heart.
Luke 2:48-51

And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us
by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
Luke 24:32

But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit,
and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
Romans 2:29

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of
men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the
fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all
principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made
without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of
Christ:
Colossians 2:8-11

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts,
crying, Abba, Father.
Galatians 4:6

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for
Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:32

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and
minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body;
and be ye thankful.
Colossians 3:15
And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward
all men, even as we do toward you: To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable
in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all
his saints.
1 Thessalonians 3:12-13

Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and
hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts,
and stablish you in every good word and work.
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for
Christ.
2 Thessalonians 3:5

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith
the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be
to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
Hebrews 8:10

Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is
the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my
laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
Hebrews 10:15-16

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled
from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
Hebrews 10:22

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word,
they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they
behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that
outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the
ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after
this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned
themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham,
calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with
any amazement. Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge,
giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the
grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. Finally, be ye all of one mind, having
compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil
for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto
called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let
him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew
evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
1 Peter 3:1-11
WHAT WE WEAR IN THE PHYSICAL WORLD

What we choose to wear starts in the heart, but is manifest in the physical world.

The first attraction to the sin of Hamor was sight in the physical world. Women are
intellectually aware that men are stimulated by sight. It is possible to try and ignore this
often in our daily lives, but the reality stays the same. Even though this sort of
stimulation should only be in marriage, sadly it is often outside of marriage.

And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took
her, and lay with her, and defiled her.
Genesis 34:2

This led to murder, because the sons of Israel were bothered by the perversion of what
should only be proper in marriage, applied to their sister outside of marriage.

And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with an harlot?
Genesis 34:31

What we wear goes into others eyes.

I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?
Job 31:1
Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
Proverbs 6:25

And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the
roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman
was very beautiful to look upon.
2 Samuel 11:2

David's child died that came from this. The first sin was Bathsheba who casually
exposed her nakedness. He sinned also, but so did she.

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it
shall not cleave to me.
Psalm 101:3

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed
adultery with her already in his heart.
Matthew 5:28

Eyes should be considered, they do matter.

Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to
whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.
Leviticus 19:29

Prostitution does involve more than clothing, but immodest clothing physically
manifest in the world is a big part.
The next scripture makes me sad concerning born again women who dress
immodestly. Immodesty is a method of communication of harlots (prostitutes).
And the Babylon spoken of in Revelation is very much supportive of harlotry, but
will kill real Christians.

And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and
precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and
filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY,
BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE
EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood
of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
Revelation 17:4-6

I know that not all women who dress immodestly fornicate for money. However
this type of clothing is called the "attire of an harlot" in the holy scriptures. The
attire of an harlot is simply wrong. Reguardless of what a woman is thinking, if
she is wearing the attire of an harlot, the immodesty is seductive. And the Bible
does say,

Abstain from all appearance of evil.

1 Thessalonians 5:22

Our bodies are temples.

But he spake of the temple of his body.

John 2:21

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1 Corinthians 3:16

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the
things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
2 Corinthians 5:10

And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the
living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their
God, and they shall be my people.
2 Corinthians 6:16

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which
ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify
God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20

To uncover nakedness of our temples in the wrong context is sin. We

should be effectively covered.

And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her
nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her
blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.
Leviticus 20:18

And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the
wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of
Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went
backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were
backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. And Noah awoke from his wine,
and knew what his younger son had done unto him. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a
servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed be the LORD God
of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
Genesis 9:20-26

Clearly even male family members who do what is right

recognize the need for modesty amongst themselves.

And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if
thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it. Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto
mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.
Exodus 20:25-26

And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even
unto the thighs they shall reach:
Exodus 28:42

Thighs or form of thighs should be covered.

And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked
unto their shame among their enemies:) Then Moses stood in the gate of the
camp, and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons
of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
Exodus 32:25-26

None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their
nakedness: I am the LORD.
Leviticus 18:6

Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their
garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and sent them away. Then there
went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for
the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards
be grown, and then return.
1 Chronicles 19:4-5

Tight clothing on men and woman are bad in the wrong spots, as
this reveals the areas that are a shame to have nothing on.

So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians
captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks
uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.
Isaiah 20:4

And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the
spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them,
and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them
upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then
they returned to Samaria.
2 Chronicles 28:15

For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah
naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD.
2 Chronicles 28:19

Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the
thigh, pass over the rivers. Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be
seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.
Isaiah 47:2-3
Thighs or form of thighs should be covered.
Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is removed: all that honoured her
despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: yea, she sigheth, and turneth
backward.
Lamentations 1:8

Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also
shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked. The
punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry
thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover
thy sins.
Lamentations 4:21-22

And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days
of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood.
Ezekiel 16:22

Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness
discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy
abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didst give unto them;
Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all
them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast hated; I will even gather them
round about against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see
all thy nakedness. And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood
are judged; and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy.
Ezekiel 16:36-38

But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right, And hath not eaten upon
the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither
hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman, And
hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by
violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a
garment;
Ezekiel 18:5-7

Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the
season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness. And
now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out
of mine hand.
Hosea 2:9-10

Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest
him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!
Habakkuk 2:15

Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for
the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests. And it shall come to pass in
the day of the LORD'S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children,
and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.
Zephaniah 1:7-8

Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came
unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger,
and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison,
and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye
have done it unto me.
Matthew 25:36-40
And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had
devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
Luke 8:27

Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of
whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right
mind: and they were afraid.
Luke 8:35

Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when
Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he
was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
John 21:7

And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and
prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Acts 19:16

If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

2 Corinthians 5:3

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with
shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
1 Timothy 2:9
This holy scripture clearly shows that clothing needs to be modest. However, I
would like to mention the shamefacedness which it speaks of also.

Shamefacedness is a word that many people do not even want to know.

Shamefacedness comes from a modest heart that is sensitive to showing shame.
Shamefacedness is being able to blush easily, being embarrased at personal sin.

This is the opposite of an impudent face that the Bible talks about. An impudent
face comes from a hard heart ready to make excuses for sin. Impudent means
unblushingly shameless.

So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
Proverbs 7:13

For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou
shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.
Ezekiel 2:4

But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for
all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.
Ezekiel 3:7

Here again is a contrast between a humble person that can blush and those that
can not blush:

And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God:
for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the
heavens.
Ezra 9:6
Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all
ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall:
at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Jeremiah 6:15

Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all
ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall:
in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Jeremiah 8:12

back to scripture about the need to cover our bodies properly,

If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them,
Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things
which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
James 2:15-16

Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and
knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I
counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white
raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do
not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I
love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Revelation 3:17-19

Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest
he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Revelation 16:15

There is a word in the English Bible that largely goes ignored by many. That
word is "lascivious". Here is part of the definition from the unabridged Oxford
English Dictionary:

__________________________________________________
lascivious, a.

(l@"sIvI@s) Also 5 lassivyous, 6 lacivious. [ad. late L.

lascWviZs-us (Isidore), f. L. lascWvi-a (n. of quality f. lascWvus
sportive, in bad sense lustful, licentious): see -ous.]

1. Inclined to lust, lewd, wanton.

b. Inciting to lust or wantonness.

[The King James Bible was finished in 1611. The word

"lascivious" had already been in the English language for over
200 years. What this word means is well established. The
following is a small historical sampling of its use.]

1602
T. Fitzherbert Apol. 36b,
"How many are there that make no scruple to keep lascivious
pictures to provoke themselves to lust?"

1660
F. Brooke tr. Le Blanc's Trav. 155
"Their garments are something lascivious, for being cut and
open their skin is seen."

1780
Cowper Table T. 462
"To the lascivious pipe and wanton song, That charm down
fear, they frolic it along."

1838
Lytton Leila i. iv,
"Not thine the lascivious arts of the Moorish maidens."

__________________________________________________

This word comes from the Latin word which can mean sportive. The full English
definition means more. However it can be instructive that the verb "to sport" has
different meanings. The meaning of sport in this context is the same as used in
the following scripture:

And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my sister: for he
feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for
Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon. And it came to pass, when he had been
there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and
saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife. And Abimelech called
Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister?
And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.
Genesis 26:7-9
There are things a spouse can show and do with their lawful marriage partner
that never should be done to other people.

It is clear both from nature and the Bible that part of being lascivious is exposing
those parts of the body which are sensually enticing to the opposite gender. This
can be naked flesh. It can also be the form of these private parts exposed by
tight clothes. It can also be naked areas of our flesh that are tantalizingly close
to our private parts. Men and women are made differently and know very well
what these private parts are. We know in our flesh what can temp the opposite
gender to lust. To ignore or excuse this is dishonest.

Here are some holy scriptures that mention being lascivious in some way:

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries,
fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil
eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile
the man.
Mark 7:21-23

Jesus, the living Word of God said this.

If we are willing, we can notice that lasciviousness is distinctly different from

fornications or adulteries. Immodesty is not fornication or adultery, but it is sin.

There is a common excuse for dressing immodestly that says that it does not
matter what we look like on the outside, it only matters what we look like on the
inside. This excuse dishonestly ignores that if we are willing to not cover our
naked bodies modestly this comes from what we are thinking inside.

Here is some of the light of God's word on lasciviousness:

And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail
many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and
fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.
2 Corinthians 12:21
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Galatians 5:19

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles
walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated
from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of
their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to
work all uncleanness with greediness. But ye have not so learned Christ;
Ephesians 4:17-20

That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to
the will of God. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the
Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings,
banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not
with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
1 Peter 4:2-4

For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this
condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and
denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jude 1:4

We need to be careful to not go along with those that say we have grace so we
can be lasciviousness. Freedom in Christ does not mean freedom to carelessly
sin. It means freedom FROM sin. God has given us this freedom supernaturally.
Examples of modest clothing:

for example, for women, the following would be a modest way

to dress that can hide all the form of her private parts and
appropriate skin:

- a loose waistless (no waist, in other words it goes strait

down) dress that goes to between the knees and
ankles, that is not sleeveless.
- a loose coat and/or vest that goes to mid thigh.
- no bra (because it helps show and enhance form)
- a camisol or undershirt that is snug, but not too tight to be
uncomfortable, because this helps hide form.
- no low neck line which helps eyes and minds wander.

Also for example, for men, the following would be a modest

way to dress:

- loose breeches/trousers/pants
- a long enough shirt or tunic that covers the
buttocks/privates/thigh area, loose enough to not
show ANY form of the privates.
- no tank-tops/"muscle shirts"
- a loose coat and/or vest that covers torso form
- no "pushing the limits" similar to the list for women above,
ONE COMMON EXAMPLE OF IMMODESTY: WALKING
AROUND IN UNDERWEAR, OR SMALL SHORTS, WITH NO
SHIRT

I end this file with some more scripture:

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that
loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to
him.
John 14:21

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all
judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and
without offence till the day of Christ;
Philippians 1:9-10

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the
prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of
disobedience:
Ephesians 2:2

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity
with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Do ye
think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
James 4:4-5

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all
things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the
sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among
whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in
the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
Philippians 2:13-16

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world,
the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and
the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1 Juan 2:15-16

Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers
God will judge.
Hebrews 13:4

Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

1 Corinthians 15:33

Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself
pure.
1 Timothy 5:22
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of
light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving
what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of
darkness, but rather reprove them.
Ephesians 5:8-11

Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
Romans 12:9

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts,
which war against the soul;
1 Peter 2:11

Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye
have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more
and more. For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For this is
the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That
every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not
in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: That no man go
beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all
such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. For God hath not called us unto
uncleanness, but unto holiness. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God,
who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use
have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Hebrews 5:13-14
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God and the Father by him.
