SELF ANALYSIS OF A TALK
Qualitative Analysis
• In this section you are requested to focalise on the qualitative elements of the speech. After viewing yourself
on videotape, please answer the following questions as thoroughly and honestly as possible, writing your
answers in complete sentences. Since there is no single correct answer, points will be assigned on the basis
of how well you justify the answer you give.
• Notions about myself speaking
1. Was it difficult for you to view the videotape of yourself giving this speech? Why?
Yes, it was a little bit embarrassing because I do not accustomed to see me of that way, it was something
new, but I really enjoy improve my skills doing some activities like this.
2. What surprised you the most when you viewed your speech?
I was surprised of my changes from the first video that I made on basic and pre-intermedium English. I can
realize a great difference and I am happy with the develop of my speaking skill
3. What pleased you the most? Why?
I can observe my improving and realized about my mistakes and the result of that was the improved of my
speaking, that was my favorite part.
• Goals
1. What did you do in your rehearsal to reach your goals?
Practice, practice and more practice; ask to my partners or my boyfriend to listen me and create an
environment which I can have a better use of my skills and improve them.
2. How many times did you rehearse before you delivered your speech?
Around for times, in the beginning I wrote my story to remember every each part of the story after that I
started to speak with my boyfriend to modulate better my story and when I started the video I had confidence
in myself.
• Delivery
1.Analyse your delivery in this speech by thoroughly discussing the following characteristics:
a. eye contact
This is a common mistake that I have to improve because during the video I looked everywhere, but I always
tried to have eye contact
b. use of notes or outline
I wrote the story to started remember what I was going to speak about, but I did not need this when I was
making the video.
c. vocal quality
I consider that my voice quality was great
d. body movement and gestures
I can not stay still, when I was talking, I always tried to use my hands an gestures with my face because that
helped me to express better the story
e. use of fillers
That always had been a problem for my speech because between phrases instead of silences I uses fillers like
“ham” “haaa” “soooo” “emmm”
2. What would you most like to modify about your delivery?
I would like to improve my capacity for join sentence instead of use fillers
3. What do you believe are your strongest qualities in this speech?
I consider that I am expressive and my gestures are good while I am speaking
4. How could you have made this speech more interesting?
Maybe I could get better my speech using a more interesting anecdote or giving more details but I did not
do it because the speech could be very extensive so I did the speech very concise.
5. What is your overall estimation of your performance on this speech?
Obviously, I can be better right now I know what are my mistakes and I try to overcome that mistakes to
have a better performance in every speech in the future
6. What will be your primary focus of improvement for your next speech?
The fluency, fillers and my shyness; these are my limits in this moment but I have the opportunity improve
of all that.
