Chapter 3

METHOD OF STUDY AND SOURCES OF DATA

This chapter presents the research methods, respondents, instruments and procedures to be

used in collecting and analyzing data to answer the research problems. This also includes the

statistical treatments used in interpreting data from respondents.

Research Design

The descriptive research design will be employed in this study. We will examine the socio-

economic status and career choice of students in preparing for third level of education to see

what are the factors that causes of career uncertainty of the students. Descriptive research is a

purposive process of gathering data, analyzing, classifying and tabulating data about prevailing

conditions, practices, processes, beliefs, trends, and cause-effect relationships and then adequate

and accurate interpretation about such data.

Research Locale

The study was conducted in Asian Pacific Christian School Incorporated (APCSI). This is

located at Cristo Rey Capas, Tarlac. At present, there are 32 faculties and 391 students. For the

grade 11 students there are 2 advisers and 52 students.

Research Respondents
The respondents of this study are all the grade 11 students S.Y. 2019-2020 with a total of 52

students who are determined by cluster random sampling.

Research Instrument

The researchers will use a descriptive checklist to assess the socio-demographic profile such

as age, sex, parents’ educational attainments, parents’ occupation, parents’ size of income of the

respondents to determine their socio-economic status. And also questionnaires as instrument to

gather data and request for the grade 11 students to answer it. In this study, the effect of socio-

economic status and career choice in preparing for the tertiary education will be evaluated. The

survey will be given to the grade 11 students will be the basis of the outcome.

Scope and Delimitation

The study discern to evaluate the socio-economic status and career in preparing for tertiary

education of the grade 11 students at Asian Pacific Christian School Incorporated (APCSI), The

students were given a checklist to determine their socio-economic status. Hence they were asked

to answer a questionnaire to see what are their possible career choice and if socio-economic

status is one of what they considered on choosing career

Data Gathering Procedure


First is to make a request letter before going to the testing proper. Upon approval the

researcher retrieves the request letter. The principal, class advisers, and other faculty members

were selected in administration. After that, the researchers used the time allotted for vacant to

avoid distractions of class. The respondents were given enough time to answer the questions.

After data gathering, the researchers collected the questionnaires and checklist to tally the scores

and to apply the statistical treatment that will be used in this study.
