7. A transmission line is acting as a connector between two constant voltage networks. Determine
graphically or otherwise the maximum additional load that can be suddenly applied to such an
interconnector already carrying 50 MW, if the power angle diagram is given by
Where P is the power transmitted in MW and is the displacement in between voltage phasors
at the ends of the line.
8. Define Methods to improve the Steady State Stability.
9. A Synchronous Motor is receiving 35% of the power that it is capable of receiving from an
infinite bus. If the load on the on the motor is doubled; determine the maximum value of load
angle δ during the swinging of the motor around its new equilibrium position.
10. Distinguish between
i) AC Excitation System and

11. Give the purpose and procedure of point by point method of solving the swing equation.
12. Give the Flux linkage equation & voltage equation with reference to a synchronous machine.
13. Explain transient state reactances assumed by a synchronous machine when a sudden short

14. A generator operating at 50 Hz delivers 1 p.u. power to an infinite bus when a fault occurs and
reduces the maximum power transferable to 0.4 p.u. the maximum power transferable before
Page 1 of 2
the occurrence of fault was 1.75 p.u. The maximum power transferable after clearance of fault
1.25 p.u. compute critical clearance angle.
15. A 50 Hz generator is supplying 40% of the power that it is capable of delivering a transmission
line through an infinite bus, A fault occurs that increases the reactance between the generator

can be delivered is 80% of the original maximum value. Determine the critical angle for the
given condition.
16. A 2-pole, 50 Hz 11 KV turbo generator has a rating of 60 MW, power factor of 0.85 lagging.
Its rotor has a moment of inertia 8800 Kg-m2. Calculate its inertia constant in MJ/MVA and its
momentum in MJ-s per electrical degree.
17. A 100 MVA synchronous generator operates on full load at a frequency of 50 Hz. The load is
suddenly reduced to 50 MW due to time lag in governor system the steam valve begins to close
after 5 second, Determine the change in frequency that occurs in this time given H = 5 KW-
s/KVA of generator capacity.
18. A 4 pole 50 Hz turbo alternator is rated at 45 MW, 0.8 p.f. lagging and has an inertia of 25,000
kg-m2 it is connected in transmission system to another set whose corresponding data is 2-pole,
50 Hz , 60 MW, 0.75 p.f. lagging, 9000 Kg-m2. Calculate the inertia constant of each set on its
own rating and that on the single equivalent set connected to a bus bar and on a base rating of
100 MVA.
19. Show that during unsymmetrical fault the damper with higher Rr improves stability.
