Thermal rockets use an inert propellant, heated by a power source such as
electric or nuclear power. Solid-fuel rockets (or solid-propellant rockets or
motors) are chemical rockets which use propellant in a solid state. Liquid-
propellant rocketsuse one or more liquid propellants fed from tanks. The
structural system, or frame, is similar to the fuselage of an airplane. The
frame is made from very strong but lightweight materials, like titanium or
aluminium. The first rocket which could fly high enough to get into
space was the V2 missile which was first launched by Germany in 1942.
