INSTRUCTIONS

GETTING STARTED
1. Depending on your PC COM port, connect either the DB9 or DB25 serial port connector to the PC.
2. Connect one end of the RS232 cable to the PC’s COM port using the provided adapter.
3. Connect the opposite end of the RS232 cable to the RS232 port on the bottom left side of the MTS 3100,
or to the left side of the Tech 1A.
4. Insert the ADM CD into the CD/DVD-ROM drive. The software automatically runs and displays the
Application Download Manager v2.0 Launcher window screen.

If it does not AutoRun, right click on the Windows Start button and select Explore. Look for the CD
named ADM_2_0 under My Computer and click on the icon. Double click the file named
MenuApp.exe.

QUICK START GUIDE

WHAT IS ADM?
Application Download Manager (ADM) is a PC software application that connects to the Vetronix MTS
3100 and Tech 1A. It is designed to allow you to easily transfer updated applications from the supplied CD-
ROM to your Mass Storage Cartridge (MSC) and Multi-Function Tester (MFT) Program Card. This Quick
Start Guide provides basic instructions on how to operate ADM. Please see the ADM Help file for a more
detailed explanation of the ADM software.

When performing an ADM download, a PC screen saver may interrupt the


NOTE ADM download operation. Turn off the PC screen saver before performing
a download. Error messages may appear before or during the download.
The most common error is a loose or unconnected RS232 cable. If this
occurs, reattach the cable and try again.

IMPORTANT DOWNLOAD INFORMATION!


It is imperative that you download applications to the correct Program Card or MSC.
You will only be able to download applications that you have purchased. The lists
below contain all possible applications.

Download the following applications to the 16MB MSC (P/N 02003137):


• GM/Ford/Chrysler Powertrain
• GM/Ford/Chrysler Chassis
• GM/Ford/Chrysler Body
WARNING!
• GM Marine
• Heavy Duty
• Asian Cartridge

Download the following applications to the 8MB Program Card (P/N 02002673):
• Honda/Acura
• Kia 2000
• MFT Pro

Download the following application to the 12MB Program Card (P/N 02003144):
• Toyota/Lexus

DOWNLOADING TO AN MSC ON THE


TECH 1A OR MTS 3100
This menu item allows you to perform a software download to the 16MB Mass Storage Cartridge (MSC)
that is used in the Tech 1A and MTS 3100.

To download applications to the MSC, do the following:


1. Turn the tester OFF.
2. Insert the MSC to be updated into the Tech 1A or MTS 3100.

NOTE
If you are downloading to the MTS 3100, ensure that the program card is
removed from the tester.

3. Press the O button to supply power to the tester.


4. The tester displays “16MB High Capacity MSC”. Do NOT select E.

5. Select Download from the MSC menu.

6. A dialog box appears, reminding you of the necessary preparatory steps. Click OK to proceed.
The Select Application(s) to Download dialog box is displayed.

7. Select the desired applications or click the Select All button.

NOTE If no files are listed, go back to the setup window and verify that the
correct application file directory has been specified. Also verify that the
appropriate MSC is in the tester.

8. Click Download.
If an error message is displayed during the download, refer to the Troubleshooting section of the ADM
Help file.
The download process is started and the applications are transferred to the MSC. Download times can
vary from 10 minutes to 3 hours depending on the selected software.
9. Remember, be sure to cycle power to the tester before accessing the applications on the MSC.

Downloading to an MFT Program Card on the MTS 3100

DOWNLOADING TO AN MFT PROGRAM


CARD ON THE MTS 3100
This menu item allows you to perform software downloads to the MTS 3100 Multi-Function Tester (MFT)
Program Card. Some of the following screens may differ slightly, depending on the Program Card installed
in the MTS 3100. This procedure is the same for the 8MB and the 12MB MFT Program Card.

To download Application Software to an MFT Program Card, do the following:


1. Hold down the P button and press x to turn off the MTS 3100.
2. Insert the MFT program card to be updated into the MTS 3100.

NOTE
Make sure that the MSC is removed prior to download.

3. Select Download from the Program Card menu.

4. The ADM displays a message box that instructs you to press the P key while holding down the y
and A keys. After you have completed this operation, the message “Monitor Active” should be
displayed on the MTS 3100 display screen.
5. Click OK.
The Select Application(s) to Download screen is displayed.
6. Select the desired applications or click the Select All button.

NOTE If no files are listed go back to the setup window and verify that the correct
application file directory has been specified. Also verify that the
appropriate Program Card is in the MTS 3100.

7. Click Download.
If an error message is displayed during the download, refer to the Troubleshooting section of the ADM
Help file.
8. Remember, be sure to cycle power to the tester before accessing the applications on the Program Card.

• DB25 adapter (P/N 02001031) or a DB9 adapter (P/N 02001030) depending on your PC’s serial port
configuration
