Topic: Social Networking Verses Academic Performance
Title To examine the effect of students’ academic performance who uses in social Medias
network.
INTRODUCTION
The following project is a School Based Assessment that is based primarily on the effect that
social networking has on students’ academic performance in grade 11C and grade 11D at Hope
Secondary School. Social networking is the use of internet-based social Medias programs to
make connections with other users, or to find persons with similar interest to one’s own. Social
Networking can be used for social purposes or as a marketing sector. However, an excessive
usage can lead to a slump in academic performance.
The objectives of this project are:
To investigate the effects of social networking on academic performance.
To identify the average number of students affected by social Medias.
To determine whether social networking is beneficial to Grade 11 CXC students at Hope
Secondary School academic performance
To identify the ratio of positive effects of social networking compared negative effects on
the academic performance of CXC students of Hope Secondary School.
Hence, this project was appointed to allow students to see the analyzed data and if possible make
a change towards the situation.
METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION
The researchers choose to use a quantitative method to execute this research. In order to collect
data for this research, the method of investigation used is printed questionnaire. The
questionnaire consist of closed ended questions.
The Hope Secondary School has a population of over 800 students. A total of 150 students are
the Grade 11. However, a sample of 40 questionnaires was disturbed to the grade 11C and grade
11D students.
The questionnaires were distributed and collected and analyzed within 3 school days. The
analyzed data was deemed to be appropriate due to the fact that all the questions and answers
were structured very clearly.
The questionnaire as a tool for collecting data has a number of advantages:
It requires little amount of time to be completed
It can be done at the convenience of the person required to have it completed
It guarantees confidentially since respondents are not required to attach their names
However, it also has its disadvantages:
Unanswered questions.
