Verification of 2nd Condition of Equilibrium

This document describes an experiment to verify the second condition of equilibrium using a weighing machine, weights, and a two-armed lever. The experiment involves hanging weights on both sides of the lever at different distances and measuring the forces and moments to show that the clockwise moment equals the anticlockwise moment when the lever is in equilibrium. Calculations of force, moment, and sums of moments are shown for several trials of the experiment.

Verification of 2nd condition of Equilibrium

Apparatus:-
Weighing machine,Weights, Weight hangers, Equilibrium on a two arm
lever
Theorey:-
 In this experiment we verify the 2nd condition of equilibrium.

 That is Clockwise moment = anticlockwise moment

Procedure:-
 First i set the apparatus in equilibrium position without any
weights and hangers.
 Then hang the two hangers(1 & 2) on left side at different
distance, it rotates the lever anticlockwise.
 i hang the third hanger(3) on right side which rotates the lever in
clockwise and balance the moment of the lever.
 Then we note the distances and mark them as d1,d2,d3 for
hangers1,2&3 respectively.
 i put weights on hangers 1&2 , it rotates anticlockwise.
 To balance the moment we put equal weight on the hanger 3,
which cancel the anticlockwise moment and lever comes in
equillibrium position.
 Then we measure the weights in kilograms with hangers 1&2 on
weighing machine.
 Then i measure the weight in kilograms on hanger 3 with hanger.
 I multiply weight by gravitational constant to get force and name
it as F1,F2,F3.
 I miltiply force F1,F2,F3 with distances d1,d2,d3 respectivley to
get moment M1,M2,M3 respectively.
 The anticlockwise moment is equal to clockwise moment, i.e
M1+M2=M3
 I repaet same experiments 4 to 5 times by changing different
weights to get different readings.
