1. What competency and sub-competency are you working on for this project
(for example: Curiosity & Imagination - expand my range of thinking in new and
creative directions)?
The competency I will work for this project is curiosity and imagination and the sub-
competency is to come up with new ideas based on previous (possibly unrelated)
experiences and knowledge. I want to expand my goals as well as think out of the
box. I tend to stick with things that I already know and try to drag everything to be
related to that knowledge or experience. It not only gives me new experiences and
knowledge but also gives me the chance to explore and develop new skills that might
not be required in one thing but essential for many other things. I will take advantage of
the curfew to reinvent myself as well as think about new ways of doing things such as
reaching clients or even friends.
2. How will you record and measure your progress? Be specific.
In this case, it is one of the hardest parts because my goals are not 100%
measurable. However, I will set a few goals and I will have to be able to reach at least
one of them every two weeks. For example, reaching 10 new distributors or clients as
well as spending quality time with my friends. Also, each goal will be divided into
different stages in order to track the progress on each of them.
3. Why and how do you think that this goal will stretch your abilities?
Managing new experiences always will lead to new knowledge and points of view. It
not only will give more knowledge to face new challenges in the future but also to
develop myself to new stages in my life. Having new thoughts and ways of doing
thinks could lead me to new projects as well as new goals of my life.
4. Are there any obstacles that may make it difficult for you to achieve this goal
by the end of the semester?
Yes, the first obstacle is myself as I tend to stick with things that I know because I don’t
want to assume new challenges. Moreover, some people tend to be egoist and make
things difficult for amateur or newbies; they could make me give up to my goals as I am
afraid of failing. My ego is my support in some cases but also it is my major weakness
because failure is a big thing to me.

Taking risks is not an easy thing. In order to take risks, you have to be aware of the
many things it involves. Many people think that taking risks is easy and harmless;
however, if you don’t think carefully, you could lose important things in your life. As a
piece of advice, plan out everything and measure the risk previously and try to
balance things out as well as minimize the risk as much as you can. Also, start taking
small risks in order to be familiar with the consequences and prices of it.you should
start with things such as buying different styles of clothes. New food plates, etc
before going for big things such as changing of house or car.
Minh Nguyen:
First of all, I want to congratulate you because taking the decision of opening a
business is a big step. Do not give up, every day and every experience will improve
your skills and knowledge that will help you to face new challenges in the future. as
an advice, try to be as organized as you can because you will have to handle multiple
things at the same time. Starting a business is difficult in terms of time, money, and
planning. My best wishes to your project.

1. A final statement of what your Get Ugly Project is. Make sure you have included
the Competency and Sub-competency that you are working on and your SMART
goal.
Due to the pandemic, I got stuck in Colombia and my work experience is related to
something that is not allowed at this moment here in Colombia. I was forced to think
out of the box and look for new opportunities that allow me to financially sustain me
and my family. I decided to help a couple of friends to start their new company by
guiding and teaching them how to manage a company. It is a big challenge for me
because I entered into a business that I don't know at all (alcohol, hand sanitizer, and
sterilizer products, among others). I not only have the common problems such as
remote work, social distance, etc. but also, I have to learn as fast as I can about the
product and the industry in order to help this company grow to the point of selling its
first production batch and they continue doing it by themselves. selling that batch is
my major goal because my payment is on commissions. Also, I have to return to
Canada once this issue goes, so I want to teach my friends how to do it by
themselves.
Specific: selling the first production batch
Measurable: Tacking track week by week to see if I need to change of strategic
Achievable: Based on other companies in similar conditions it is not impossible.
Relevant: Yes, it is my only income to sustain my family and myself while the
pandemic
Time-bound: 3 months where Colombia thinks open its border again to
internationally travels.
2. A reflection about the self-assessment about Curiosity and Imagination test
a) What did you learn about yourself that will impact on your Get Ugly project?
Upon completion of the curiosity test, I have reaffirmed that I am curious in general. My
calcifications within the test were 26 percentual, 25 epistemic, and 23 interpersonal
curiosity. To be honest, it is not new that I follow my gut and my senses almost 70% of
the time. Also, my grandmother taught me that before hiring someone to do my bed I
need to know how to do it; otherwise, I could be paying for someone to do it incorrectly.
From there my need of knowing everything about a project or situation that I am
involved in. Both skills are very useful in my ugly project as I will following my
experience, knowledge, and sense throughout this challenge but also I will increase my
knowledge in other areas that are totally unknown to me. in addition, I know that I have
to work in my interpersonal curiosity in order to understand my clientele as well as my
competitors. A large part of humans are emotional in their behavior, thoughts, and
decision; therefore, if I understand their emotions, I will probably be able to sell the idea
of our products to them. It not only will increase sales but also will increase loyalty within
our customers
3. Based on the podcast Taking Action how can you explain the meaningfulness of
your development goal? Breakdown of weekly activities and/or goals. Be specific.
After listening the podcast, I decide to create a marketing plan in a descendent order. I
will start for something small to connect with my customers and understand their needs.
The strategic will progressively increase to allow me to create habits as well as to
correct it if it is necessary.
1st stage: Due Date: June 15th to – Reaching and setting up 20 new distributors
across the city.
10 distributors each week (first and second week)
2nd stage: Due Date: June 30th- analyzing customer and distributor behaviour as well
as its routines.
Third week: Finding highlight trends, industry issues or changes,
customers and competitors.
Fourth week: Finding at least on way of overcome each obstacle or
taking advantage of the findings.
3rd stage: Due Date: July 30th- preparing an inform about how to improve sales,
training, among others. It will contain feed back from resellers and customers as well
as suggestion for the following the stages.
Fifth week: preparing the inform
Six-week: revising the current strategy and possible changes
Seven-week: implementing new changes
Eight-week: correcting any minor issues or mistakes
4th stage: Due Date: August 30-analyzing selling patterns and inventory rotation
Nine and ten-week: analyzing customer behavior as well as checking contracts
to be met.
Eleven-week: organizing production and marketing campaigns for the next
trimester.
4. A reflection about the role that you would like other people to have in your project
(i.e.: support, guidance…)
Support from my co-workers, friends, and family is very important as I am a tourist in
my own country after almost seven years of not coming back. Also, the guidance they
can provide me is essential to not waste time. I want to see a lot of desire for learning
and a few skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking, among others.

First of all, I like the way you turn your assignment on quality time with your relatives.
However, I would suggest you start a progressive plan such as 100 pieces one week and
maybe 130 pieces to the next one. It will give you a gap to correct or modify your
outline as well as to enjoy and not stress accomplishing your milestones.
Emily Kott:
I Like your plan and it is a useful way to improve some essential skills. Nevertheless, I
recommend you to properly analyze yourself to not burden up yourself in the process.
Staying focus is very difficult; even more, these days where everybody could reach us
through the cellphone or laptop. One thing you can try is staying away from your
cellphone for a couple of minutes and then for hours.
