Task 1 Test 2

The chart bar presents the percentage of households that are owned or rented in England and Wales
during the period from 1918 to 2011.

Firstly, between 1918 and 1971, the percentage of rented accommodation has gone from around 75 to
60%, while the percentage of owned households has risen from approximately 20 to 50%. In 1939 and
1953, the percentage of owned was a little bit above 30 percent. At the same time, the percentage of
rented accommodation was around 70%. Secondly, in 1971, the percentage of both households was the
same, at exactly 50%.

Thirdly, the percentage of rented households decreased from 50 to approximately 30 percentage


between 1971-2001. On the other hand, the percentage of owned households rose from 50% to almost
70% between 1971 and 2001. Lastly, the percentage of rented accommodation risen to 35%, while
owned accommodation decreased slightly to around 65% in 2011.

To sum up, during the chosen time, the percentage of rented households in England and Wales had a
tendency to decrease, while the percentage of owned ones had been rising, despite 2011 when it
slightly rose for rented homes and decreased for owned places. To be more precise, both percentages
were equal in 1971 (50%).
