FOREWORD
Poetry is the expression of the heart. These are words which reflect
multiple emotions- their vagaries, their nuances and their subtleties.
Each experience is the spring of a fresh burst of ideas. From each
experience spring myriad thoughts that engage the mind and coerce that
heart to pen down a string of words.
My journey into poetry started two years back when I was in Grade 9
at Shiv Nadar School Noida. Ever since, I have loved writing poetry. It has
been my dream to get my poems and stories published. I hope my poems
bring a smile on the face of the readers.
LOVE YOU MOM

MY BEST FRIEND
Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash
She has twinkling eyes,
She has a tiny nose.
She wears a necklace
And loves to shop
She is fond of eating
And is always busy in a meeting
She is peaceful, she is blissful
8
Rahul Suri
She is an apple of my eye
I love her so much
She is the only one
My best friend
She helps me whenever I need her help
She saves me when I am in danger
She shares with me, she cares for me
She is the only one of my best friend

FRUIT KINGDOM
Photo by Dane Deaner on Unsplash
Yellow Mango is their king,
Who always sits on a swing.
Violet Grapes the chief minister,
Orange her sister.
Jackfruit, Pear, Strawberry,
Pineapple, Papaya, Blackberry.
All live in freedom.
In the fruits kingdom.
10
Rahul Suri
Banana-an attendant
To The Queen who wears a Pendant.
Guava, Cheery, and Apple,
Protect the fruits kith and kin
Together they all stay,
Happy and Gay.
Lives of humankind,
It depends on the fruit of all kinds.
Body’s vitamin and mineral needs,
Are met from fruits' flesh and seeds.

FRIENDSHIP
Photo by Harli Marten on Unsplash
Long, long ago I sailed in a ship,
A ship of friendship.
Everyone was happy in here
Joy, cheerfulness, and happiness were there.
We together sailed through the storm
Of doubts and disbelief
But we together held a hand in hand
12
Rahul Suri
And withstood the storm
But when years passed,
I was isolated from the ship of friendship
So I sailed alone
Suddenly I remembered my past,
Soon I realized the consequences
I have to face
A wild wind blew and a storm came
I fell to the edge of my ship.
Another sailor who passed nearby
Held my hand and rescued me,
Again from the storm of wry and distress
But I realized that friendship is
Far more superior than loneliness.

FIRST RAIN
Photo by Erik Witsoe on Unsplash
It became dark as if it was evening
Wind had started to blow
Singers of nature had already
Started their ballad
Birds returned to their nests early
Everybody’s eyes filled with expectation
It came with a bolt of lightning and thunder
14
Rahul Suri
The first drop,
The starting of a heavy downpour,
The tunes of the soul danced,
As the rain sang.
The fascinating scent of the earth,
Filled the environment.
Nature overwhelmed and the first
Rain filled!
The heart of the people with new
Hopes…
Was covered once again,
With the first drop of thy precious shower,
Giving life to the world !!!

NOT EVERYTHING IS LOCKED DOWN
Photo by Masaaki Komori on Unsplash
The Sun rises from East
it sets in the west
Seasons remain unchanged
The moon has been brighter
The Air is getting cleaner
Air is getting cleaner
Each family is getting united
16
Rahul Suri
Relationships are improving
Love is in the air
We relax, we talk
Learning is not in lockdown
Music is created
A new song is sung
Devotion is more
People getting wiser
Yoga practice is given more time
Exercise is done in different forms
Zumba is in fashion
So lockdown the COVID 19
Stay at home
There are a lot of things to do so yes to Lockdown

COCO - MY PET
Photo by Jamie Street on Unsplash
His big eyes are searchlights
His tail's a propeller
His growl is an engine
He's a good little fellow
His teeth are daggers
His nose is a sponge
18
Rahul Suri
His tongue is a slice of ham
He's ready to lunge
His fur is a blanket
His legs are sticks
His claws are needles
He can do some cool tricks
His bark is the lightening
His howl is the thunder
But what is it like
To be a dog I wonder

A VISIT FROM MY GRANDMA
(My Grandmother may not be the normal stereotype
grandmother)
Photo by Clément Falize on Unsplash
She's not that old and gives me one idea after another
She looks healthy and her appetite's good
I don't think my grandmother sounds like yours would
Once in a while she comes and visits
My favorite time of the year is then
20
Rahul Suri
We stock up the kitchen and ever more than the house
And oh dear she will not stand a mouse!
My grandmother isn't scared of anything
Bugs and bats can come and go and the bees can sting
But I really am at a loss when she goes
My heartbeat slows
But oh ! she'll come again

LION'S ROAR
Photo by Adam Bignell on Unsplash
In the jungle, a lion's roar
Loud, rumbling from his core
A magnificent, mane of golden brown
He is the king but wears no crown
Predator and enemy, they have two
22
Rahul Suri
Human hunters and hyenas too.
The lion and his lioness of the pride
If you cross, they do not hide
The lion's roar is his symbol of strength
Of leadership and of his pride
Every animal bows to him
To his call, they all abide!

But perfect for each other

A SOULMATE IN A STRANGER
Photo by Alex Iby on Unsplash
As I couldn't find that special lover
Then I met you one summer
For hours we sat and talked to each other
Like old friends we were, I remember
Funny that I could find a soul mate in a stranger
I knew then I have found the perfect partner
28
Rahul Suri
Someone I could love and cherish forever
Now, my love has only grown deeper
And life with you has never been sweeter
Before I was a loner
Always brooding in my own shelter
Thought love would never stop by never

WHEN I'M GONE
When I come to the end of my Journey
And I travel my last weary mile
Just Forget if you can, that I ever frowned
And remember only the Smile
Forget unkind words I have spoken
Remember some good I have done
Forget that I ever had a headache
30
Rahul Suri
And remember I've had loads Fun
Forget that I have stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way
Remember I have fought
Some hard battles and won
Ere the close of the day
Then forget to grieve for my going
I would not have you sad for a day
But in summer just gather some flow
And remember the place where I lay
And, come in the evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best

THE EYES OF HEAVEN
Photo by Nghia Le on Unsplash
Full of glance with universal glory,
Mountain-high held with sanctum's melody,
I'm filled with Melody's serenity,
While the creatures running disparately,
With flora's fragrance and fauna's sorrows,
Blessings of heaven with hell's debris,
32
Rahul Suri
Gifts of life with death's attire,
Dance of baby with old's sapphire,
Gems of snake with poisonous bites,
Silence truth with barking sorrows,
All combined a path serpentine,
Destination unknown on dark hemisphere,
No one knows called divine exclamation,
Whosoever has explain pronunciations,
Whosoever has explain pronunciations,
All's are running with sorrow's explanation,
Blaming own-self some times to others,
No one stay to examine frustration,
All's in dreams or alive in trance,
O You Men;
It's Dreams not pranks,
World within rest on divine slumber,
Dreams of divine manuscripts,
Will of Almighty with life and death,
To achieve emancipation,
33
The Sound of Words
Or Your will of salvation,
It's not a duty or right's frustration,
Accept with humbleness,
Bend with gratitude,
It's not your creation,
Don't be lord of your own-self,
Stay and calm lost all debris around,
Close your eyes,
Open the gate of lights,
See yourself furnish your clay,
Embrace your beauty,
Thanks, divine charm,
Don't punish yourself,
Clean your attires,
Thanks, your being,
With humble gratitude,
Oh She is....!
She just hold me turned me behind,
What are you saying,
34
Rahul Suri
Whom are you saying,
Do you not know,
No one ready to listen to your voice,
Even no one can see your presence,
All's blind running in a trance,
Left this thoughts left all burden,
Now sleep a while,
My lap is hungry,
Aah,
She forcibly lay down,
On Stone-bed at a crematory,
Hold my head on Her lap,
Close my eyes with Her palm,
I'm slowly getting full of silence,
She just singing a song of shrine,
I'm getting lost my all of essence,
She is smiling,
Secrets hold!

FOR A CAUSE
A date with self, no one else
Several times on personal notes
Used and abused by the emotions
While acting so-called social-animal
Several times trolled breaking down
Where every move mattered-
36
Rahul Suri
Making marks in various show-events
Winning accolades from all around
Being the best version of the times
Just, making it happen calm and cool
To see and visualize coming to fruition
Minding own moods and business
Talking about my own career graph
In conversation with a common man
Finding solutions being elder-figure
Of relations and emotions thereof
Getting mentally mature and strong
Communicating the message of hope
With courage, strength, love, and care
Inspiring the child within me for a cause!

LIKE ANTS
Photo by Gabriel Manlake on Unsplash
Here are a million thoughts in my head
Like ants,
They swarm my mind
Crawl all over it
Leave beneath their million tiny legs
A true mess
38
Rahul Suri
One comes
Bumps into ten others
Disrupts them
Which further disrupt a hundred more
And it never ends
They're suffocating me
There is so much darkness
The absence of light
I feel trapped
Buzz buzz buzz
My head feels heavy
They won't stop humming
It hurts physically
So much noise.
What is silence?
For once, leave me alone
Let me slide into the bliss of sugary oblivion
39
The Sound of Words
I would choose the absence of knowledge
Rather than have it
along with its terrible darkness
So much darkness
So much unhappiness
I'm drowning
I'm lost
Please stop troubling me
Go away
These thoughts
Millions, billions, trillions, zillions
Infinite
Like ants
They've made their nest here
And they keep coming
They might just run out of space...
I can't.

REJECTION
Photo by Henrikke Due on Unsplash
I once saw a girl behind the counter
And what I saw was truly mesmerizing.
I ran home and called my best friend who was known for his
advice,
I told him everything and what I really desired.
We spoke for hours creating plans for my next move,
Oh, how we planned for hours and decided to confront her head-
on,
41
The Sound of Words
I went ahead and waited in the line of lovers,
I was excited yet terrified of the outcome
Would I get what I desired or would I be forced to face the
rejection?
My head was clouded with my thoughts and doubts,
And before I knew it, my turn had come,
I looked at her and with all my courage told her what I wanted,
With a pitiful smile, she said
The very words I dreaded,
“Sorry, not this time kid”.
I was once passing by a window and saw a beautiful
girl behind the counter. In front of her, there was a
line of lovers. This is a poem about my first rejection
and how I dealt with it.
Once again we planned and with a foolish grin, I stood in the line
of lovers.
My turn arrived faster that day,
And just like this poem’s rhyme,
I was rather bad at expressing my feelings for the second time.
However, courage prevailed and I told her what I wanted
42
Rahul Suri
And this time, she smiled happily,
She finally handed me my true love; a burger, onion rings and
some

SPARE ME
Photo by Goeruh Ary on Unsplash
The white noise
Blinding,
Binding us
To its unbearable heat.
It's waiting,
Waiting to disperse,
Refract rainbows-
44
Rahul Suri
Into a thousand words.
We wear wings
Yet we laugh at its thirst;
For the best monsters
The limit is the sky.
But you
Are the truest of them
All.
Spreading your wings
Leaping
Shooting at me
Making me float
White noise for you
Who’s thirst,
You quenched,
With forever.
Simply,
Empty promises;
Devouring me whole.
45
The Sound of Words
Those dreams of fantasy
Were left-
Reckless abandonment,
With hunger
Dancing in its eyes
For that sardonic art
Only is appreciated by
Pain.
Such immense pain-
That the halo cannot
Conquer,
That cannot be caught
In the fisherman's net.
It sprouts out of me
Like a plant that you've
Sown
Who’s not getting enough
Water-
46
Rahul Suri
Like any creature
Surviving-
It has to kill one
For the other to live.
So, spare me,
Your gracious,
For I'm no white light.
I dwell in this broken bulb
That only emits warmth
That will condense you
Into a shapeless being,
For love has no shape;
Nor does hate.

I HAVE FORGOTTEN
Photo by Ashraful Haque Akash on Unsplash
I have forgotten.
Forgotten the way the sunlight seemed
Forgotten the way the sunlight seemed magical.
Forgotten the time nature was extravagant.
Forgotten when life itself had another definition
I would sit at the edge of the water,
Watch the sun as it fell to meet the horizon.
48
Rahul Suri
I would watch the red swirl into the clouds.
I would wait for the purple to merge into the picture.
And I would sit there every day and try to define that beauty..
But then I didn’t…
I felt the water, I left the sky.
I stopped believing it was special and turned my back.
But I didn’t realize,
Nothing is special.
It's only so if you believe it to be.
So, take that cold hard heart and put it in your palm.
Let people put their own colour in your life.
And soon enough, you’ll have the brightest heart alive.
Bring back the musty old paper,
Gently turn the page.
It’ll feel as light as a feather.
So, treat it like water or it’ll crumble like ashes.
See the beauty. Beauty in rust, beauty in dust, beauty in moss,
49
The Sound of Words
Beauty in wrinkles, beauty in faded jeans, beauty in old leather,
Beauty in memories and I’ll promise you.
You’ll see the happiness in life.

Its breath is soft and select
It stalks with silence
Terrifying sounds of Silence
Should I run?
Should I scream?

I shut my eyes
I scream
Breaking the sound of Silence
The four eyes neosh monster edges away
Now the sound of Silence are back again.

Photo by Estée Janssens on Unsplash
Failure does not been that a person fails in life
It means they are yet to succeed
It's is that they are weak in
The particular field like studies
Failure gives hope as the window to success
When we get fewer marks in education system
We feel sad and cry when dejected
55

We feel so sad and dejected

The Secrets
The secret love in my life created a history
The sculpture-like beauty in you is still a mystery
Your jasmine-like smiles made me adore you more secretly.
57
The Sound of Words
My secret glances at you made me feel more inquisitive.
An irresistible feeling, that leads my eyes towards your glittering
nose stud.
I found a streak of lightning in your eyes narrating stories.
I realized that shining is the reflections of your Rosy lips.
You smiled the first time for me when I glanced at your pouting
lips.
The cool breeze made your hair fly like a dark cloud whispering
silently .
The whispers are the secret sweet nothings between you and me,
The sweet nothings forever are the secret memories in my heart.

WAR AND PEACE
Photo by Timon Studler on Unsplash
Let not the flowers bloom
Let not the birds sing
Let not the fruit ripen
Let them not feel the sting
For the world is no longer what it used to be
59
The Sound of Words
No more love, friendship or harmony
No co-existence, concord or Peace
No more does the fire cease
Only the thunder of the ATM
Only the spillage of blood
Everywhere there is the only harm
The unrest and the thud
We no longer feel the brotherhood
We no longer see the good
No more do we perceive the calm
No longer is peace a balm
To heal the wounds of the past
Amity is nonexistent
Friendship doesn't ring a bell
How we all wept and shrieked
The day peace fell
But even in the darkest of dungeons
And the dreariest of lands
60
Rahul Suri
There is always a glimmer of hope
That can turn the times and sands
All its takes is a spark, a stir, a trigger
Anything to make this World understand
That we each need to lend a hand
Restore all that is good and pure
Plant seeds of Amity and goodwill
Do things worthy of Folklore
And bring this War to an eternal standstill
Peace is the road that leads to all things great
It brings no grief, it brings no harm
Follow this path and witness war abate
Waste no time, sound the alarm
The air to be fragrant with armistice and reconciliation
So let the flowers bloom
Let the bird sing
Let the fruit ripen
Let the world with peace ring.

Or clouds and stars.
Something just dwell in hell,
While the demon counts down your hours.

You don't even know just yet,
How bad the world can be.
Because when I look to the horizon,
There's only so far I can see.
There's a hell which surrounds me
And the demon is my soul.
You think the flames are bearable,
But trust me,
They tear you apart.
As I write this letter from hell,
There’s a lot I try to impart.
You don't even know just yet,
How bad this world can be.
Because when I look up,
There's only more fire that I can see.

Because he neglects his desire

And tonight, a child will have a peaceful sleep
Because the soldier is a symbolic shield
He keeps us safe like a father
He is on duty, so the people don’t have to bother

With just two meals a day And a bed to sleep on

I am stuck to this palace and comforts and loneliness
Killing me slowly!
Let me run through the woods barefoot and eat spicy street foods
To enjoy a common man's life
I don't want these lace curtains
And silken quilts
I want to feel what is love
With a common man
Lying next to him
Eating simple food
Looking at the moving clouds
And sparkling stars
Walking under the beautiful twilight!

ODE TO SUMMER
Photo by Ethan Robertson on Unsplash
This is for the sweet summers breeze which blows.
Embracing me with pleasure and stealing away my sorrow.
For all those beautiful, doves, robins and even the crows.
Which I may not be able to see from tomorrow.
For the gracious green grass beneath my feet,
And for the circling eagles screeching in the sky.
For the twirling leaf which falls down in the heat,
76
Rahul Suri
And the kid who runs to make his kite fly.
For the cuckoo which sings,
The most mesmerizing melody I've ever heard.
For the ladybug who flaps her wings,
To catch the wind and fly amongst the birds.
For the vast blue sky which sets me free,
And the summer showers which make peacocks dance,
For clouds which appear to be boats adrift at sea,
And the naughty squirrels playing tag in the branch.
But all good things must come to an end.
And tomorrow's the day when I must part
With all the good things that call me a friend
As tomorrow's the day that schools start.
The last day of the sweet summer,
And I can already see the clouds closing in.
Why can't monsoon be a late-comer?
Why must I part with my beloved kin!

I LOVE MY MOTHER

When the first tears parted from my eyes
And the air was filled with my cries
Tears would’ve trickled down
Her cheeks too, to meet smiling lips...
Shattered souls have endless tears
81
The Sound of Words
And there are smiles for those full of cheer
Two extremes, but when together,
Make the sweetest couple ever
As these came together, on her
Face most gorgeous ever
She would’ve looked prettier,
I wonder!
My little hands she would’ve held then
With warmth that felt like heaven
She would’ve lifted me with care
And brought me close to her heart
So much love that none
But she could have for me
A beat her heart would’ve missed
When her skin, my breath would’ve kissed
I wonder!
Sleepless nights would’ve become routine
To keep me happily sleeping and ‘clean’
For which she surely never regretted

As her love was selfless and divine
Perhaps she would’ve loved to stay awake
To see me smile in sleep
I wonder!
Years flew past, I realized her worth
She was the one who taught me to live
If at all I had forever kept
The innocent promise of not hurting her
I wonder!
As I grew up, things quite changed
Annoyance and evil looks now I gave her
Instead of those warm hugs which I used to foster
But she never failed to understand
I was young, my soul easy to soil.
Why didn’t I thank her as she brought
Me back to track as I lost my way,
I wonder!
But when I now sit quietly with closed eyes,
Glimpses of her love and care always pass by

The Sound of Words
I had changed, so had my ways
I forgot my ‘soul’ in life’s race.
The tide of time didn’t take over her
Because her love was evergreen
Because she was my MOTHER.
Her touch still as warm as on the first day,
Her love still as selfless
I would like to confess
Though expressions have changed
I love you no less!
Your sweet smile still is the most gorgeous thing
And your hugs still arouse most precious feelings
Your caring looks do always cure
My illness halfway, for sure!
On this Mother's day, I promise,
I'll fill your life with bliss
I also won't regret a bit
YOU as my world and fill it with glee!
