By Rozaine Reyes and Lhorie Ann Tong
In spite of the obvious language barrier, many people around the globe are addicted to
Koreanovelas or simply known as K-dramas. If you haven’t watched any k-dramas yet, then you
are clearly missing out BIG TIME. There are many reasons why K-dramas have extremely
addictive charms. Some of these reasons are the visuals of the casts, the cinematography, and
the unique and unexpected plotlines. The plotlines are so unpredictable that when you just
blink for a moment, the turn of events may lead you to ask “WTF just happened?”. Yes, K-
drama is that fascinating enough to catch one’s curiosity. So, if you are a newbie to this k-drama
craze, we have listed the Top 5 of our must-watch romantic k-dramas that will make you laugh,
cry, thrilled, and feel in love.
TOP 5. Crash Landing on You.
A South Korean Heiress, Yoon Se Ri, (played by Son Ye Jin) got whirled away in a
paragliding accident to North Korea. There, she was rescued by a handsome North Korean
soldier, Ri Jeong Hyeok (played by Hyun bin). He brought her into his home to protect her and
plan for her transport back to the South. The two quickly fell in love.
In this you-and-me-against-our-separated-nations story, Crash Landing on You ensured
the viewers that every episode is filled with exciting scenes to not waste the talent of its
amazing casts. Every character has a background story, making the characters more interesting
and not just be an ‘extra’. The storytelling was done so naturally, it will make you believe the
seemed to be impossible paragliding accident is really possible to happen. Overall, Son Ye Jin
and Hyun Bin did an amazing job in portraying their characters. So amazing, they demonstrated
a first-class chemistry that is a must-have in every romantic drama.
TOP 4. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.
Do Bong-Soon (played by Park Bo Young) was born with superhuman strength. Her
dream is to create a video game with her as the main character, which is why she is ecstatic
about landing a job as the CEO’s bodyguard at Ainsoft, a popular gaming company. CEO Ahn
Min-Hyuk (played by Park Hyung Sik) has been receiving anonymous threats because he’s next
in line to take over his father’s other company. Meanwhile, there has been a series of
kidnappings in Bong-Soon’s neighborhood. One of the lead investigators is Bong-Soon’s
childhood friend, Guk-Doo (played by Ji Soo), who she is secretly in love with. Eventually, all
three join forces to solve these crimes, and their relationships shift.
Having a strong female lead character was already catchy enough to attract the
viewer’s attention. In the majority of Korean Dramas, women were always portrayed as weak
and vulnerable that need a knight in shining armor to rescue them. Well, Strong Woman Do
Bong Soon said it should be the other way around. Also, the sense of humor of this drama was
so hilarious, it will make your stomach hurt because of you LMAOing the whole episode. The
computer games and the superhero theme went well nicely and the show was packed with the
kinds of comical noise and visual effects that made the scenes more exciting and effective. Park
Bo Young, Park Hyun Sik, and the rest of the casts were all solid actors. They all stood out.
TOP 3. Goblin.
Goblin is a fantasy romance about a modern-day goblin (played by Gong Yoo) who
seeks to end his cursed immortal life and needs a human bride (played by Kim Go Eun) to do so.
His life then becomes intertwined with a grim reaper (played by Lee Dong Wook) who is unable
to remember his past. But when the goblin finally found his bride, he suddenly realizes he
wants to live and be with her.
The most eye-catching about Goblin was its cinematography. The cinematography was
spectacular and consistent from the beginning of the show until the end. Goblin’s story was
very rich and suitable for all ages. The story made the viewers ask plenty of questions and think
more and more every episode. It took too long to have these questions answered but that just
made the drama better. The show’s humor was more of a fun and goofy style that is very
uncommon in dramas. A simple awkward moment between the main characters was hilarious
enough to make you laugh and feel the chemistry of both them at the same time. All of the
characters were so interesting and likable, especially the Grim Reaper and Sunny, his love
interest. Because of their great chemistry, they starred in “Touch your heart” which they are
the main characters.
