Sir Please Refer To Your Trailing Mail. in This Regard, Clarifications Are Given As Follows

1. The document provides clarification regarding questions on chart work and tides for a final exam due to the pandemic situation. Students may have taken charts home, making practical drawing questions difficult. Instead, theory questions on chart work principles can be asked. Students may have to write or sketch answers instead of full drawings. 2. Clarification is provided that the theory exam will follow the regular exam format and cover the entire syllabus, not just a portion converted to a 20 mark scale. Sir

Please refer to your trailing mail.

In this regard, clarifications are given as follows:

1.    For subject UD11T4201 NAV III, student do have chart work in their syllabus,
but due to this pandemic situation while going from college to their home some
have taken chart and other accessories for chart with them and some are not, while
practicing chart work at home their charts are damaged and it is difficult to take
print of that for some students due to unavailability of sources. So is there any
chart work drawing questions will be there in final exam? My personal view is that
we should avoid these hurdles for students so that they will be able to write exams
with a cool mind, instead of drawing chart work we can put some theory questions
on chart work, also the same case for tide work:
Clarification: There may be no practical drawing questions on the
Chart work. Questions may be asked in a way that the students may draw sketches
on a plain paper/ the students may have to write theory/ principles involved in
doing specific course laying and position fixing.
For example-
a.   from one position in South Ceylon chart to another point which principle
is applied-- running fix, three point bearing etc
b.   how to get fix by horizontal sextant angle if three points are given--- so
write the process as you do in practical journal of physics/computer/etc
c.    Tides numerical may be asked with required data and graph given in
QP.

2.   How many marks of theory question paper will be? Will it be for 70 marks as
regular and then convert the marks in ratio of 20?

Clarification: As it was clearly mentioned at para C (a) of the Annexure-IA in the
Instructions issued for the conduct of final Semester Examinations and arrear
examinations for all the batches that the time bound assignment will be conducted
in the same pattern of the End Semester Examinations and the questions will
covered entire syllabus for all the subjects of the final semester.
