Feeding Habits in Animals

All animals need food to grow. Food gives energy to stay healthy. Based on
their feeding habits, animals are classified into different categories.

 Herbivores
 Carnivores
 Omnivores
 Rodents

Herbivores

Plant eating animals are called herbivores. Animals like cows, buffaloes, sheep
etc are examples.

Herbivores have sharp front teeth called

incisors to cut plants. They have broad
molars to grind and chew their food.
Carnivores

Carnivores are those animals which feed on the flesh of other animals.
Animals like lions, tigers, etc., that prey on and eat other animals are
examples.

Carnivores have sharp and pointed teeth

called canines that help them to tear flesh.
They have strong molars for chewing the
flesh and bones.
Omnivores

Omnivores are those organisms that eat both animals and plants. Examples of
omnivores include bear, crow and squirrel.

They often have long, sharp, pointed

teeth to rip and cut meat and flat
molars to crush plant material.
Rodents

These animals use their front teeth to

bite and gnaw at their food. They
nibble grains, nuts and fruits. Squirrel
and Rats are examples.
