CHAPTER 1
PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE
Introduction
It has become pretty easy to get access to relevant information at anytime and anywhere.
This has been possible because of modern technologies like broadband internet. Lots of data is
being published and indexed online, sites like Wikipedia and YouTube have great original
content that is regularly used for research or entertainment. With smart gadgets like the iPad,
iPhone, Galaxy tablets, etc., users can easily have access to a vast amount of information
wherever they are through the use of the internet on these devices. So a user on a train can easily
read breaking news while traveling, they can also buy and sell stocks while in the bedroom or
access their smart home temperature on the go. These smart gadgets make it easy to access the
internet anywhere, and this simplifies the way we get information.
Since technology seems infinite, it sparks the brain to work to its full potential. In the
past, it used to be very difficult to start a business, one had to have lots of capital, and they even
had limited access to business information. Today, it is simple to start a business while at home.
Let’s look at companies like Etsy.com which enable creative people to sell their works online;
this encourages creativity. Another good example is kickstarter.com which helps creative people
get funds for their projects through crowd funding. On this platform, creative developers post
projects to seek funding from the community; this helps them generate capital for their ideas
which later leads to the creation of new jobs and further innovation of technology. The other
creative works which have been facilitated by modern technology include Google, Apple,
Facebook, Microsoft, and Amazon.
2
Occasionally a new technology appears which promises to change our lives for the better.
It either improves our performance by working more simply and at a faster rate, or it creates
possibilities and options that did not previously exist. Computational machines are one such
technology. Computers tirelessly perform calculations far beyond human capabilities. They also
create different possibilities for interacting with the world by applying these calculations to
information processing, and thus, form a new arena for social interaction. Through computers,
information and communication technologies have become a major vehicle for change in the
information age (Castells, 2000).
Technologies like the Internet continue the social evolution of communications and
information that began with speech, writing and printing (for an analysis of these influences see
Ong, 1982). The Internet and the World-wide web (Web) represent the latest “disruptive”
technologies (Christensen, 1997) by creating new opportunities for identity formation that
disturb values that have been the mainstay of communication for a long period of time. In the
process, the computer is generating new ethical challenges in many areas of modern life. All the
norms of a pre-computer society, including those associated with education, are now open to
question (Kizza, 1998). For the most part, decisions to adopt these technologies for teaching are
justified on technical grounds.
Yet, despite a seemingly straightforward technical criterion of using the most appropriate
tool for the job, there is little research that unambiguously shows whether introducing technology
into teaching actually improves the quality of student learning. Technology is continually
changing and empirical studies of the characteristics of technology do not provide answers that
remain meaningful for very long.

Statement of the Problem
This research focuses on extent of utilization of Modern Technology among the students
of Saint Anthony Academy in relation to Grades
It seeks to answer the following specific questions:
1. What modern technology do students have at home?
2. What is the time span of students’ utilization of modern technology?
3. What are the impacts of modern technology to the students’ grades?
4. What benefits are brought about by modern technology to students’ grades?
5. What are the proper utilization of modern technology and its application by the respondents?
Statement of Hypothesis
H01. There is significant between Extend of Utilization of Modern Technology among the
students of Saint Anthony Academy in relation to Grades of the respondents to their Academic
Grades.
Significance of the Study
The result of this study is to aware all the students of Saint Anthony Academy of the
modern technology in today’s time, to remind the students of the consequences of modern
technology.
The study is significant to the following:
4
Students: The students will be aware of the modern of technology. This research will be helpful
of the students in Saint Anthony Academy before they addicted of Modern Technology to their
grades.
Secondary Teachers: Teachers also, they can get benefits to the study as well of the researcher.
Teachers will be able to realize their Modern Technology that would not allowed the student
used during the class hours.
Researchers: As students researchers we are also beneficiaries with our study in, a way that
modern technology that can get appropriate tools and technologies that will be utilized for our
students in Saint Anthony Academy in the future. This will guide of the students to facilities of
the consequences of Modern Technology.
Definition of terms
The following terms are defined to gain more understanding of the study:
Depression-(major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that
negatively affects how you feel the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also
treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once
enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s
ability to function at work and at home.
Physical-Bodily, corporeal, corporal agrees in pertaining to the body. Physical indicates
connected with, pertaining to, the animal or human body as a material organism: physical
strength, exercise. Bodily means belonging to, concerned with, the human body as distinct from
the mind or spirit: bodily pain or suffering.
5
Expectation-The word expectation comes from the Latin word expectation, meaning "an
waiting." If have great expectations, think something good will come your way, but if keep your
expectations low, won't risk being disappointed. Expectation can also describe something that is
supposed to happen, like a teacher whose expectation is that everyone comes to class prepared.
Technology-Internet handled a great problem of space—it allowed us to communicate
with anybody in the world, instantly. However, it did not make us better communicators. In fact,
it took many poor communicators and gave them a massive platform on which they could spread
hatred and fear.
Internet-The Internet, so powerful for sharing text, images, sounds and videos, is now
weakest at doing that for which it was originally designed - exchanging raw data between
researchers. Last month, the National Center for Data Mining at the University of Illinois at
Chicago launched the first version of an infrastructure called Data Space Transfer Protocol, or
DSTP, for creating the next generation web of data.
Scope and Delimitation
The study focuses on the extent of utilization of Modern Technology among the students
of Saint Anthony Academy in relation to Grades. This will be conducted just within the campus
of Saint Anthony Academy.
