O' Lalitha, Sage Agastya, Sage Durvasa, Lord Shiva, Lord Chandra,
Lord Kubera, Lord Agni, Sage Lopamudra, wife of Agastya, Lord
Skanda, Lord Indra, Lord Sun, Lord Kama and Manu (Father of
human race) are the 12 seers who discovered 12 basic mantras
(Moola Mantra) of you and they worship you through those
mantras. (There is also a tradition that there are 15 Moola Mantra
of Sundari, including the ones discovered by Nandikesha, Vishnu
and Brahma along with the 12 above).

O Devi, you are life of Brahma, as you are vomiting (Vamana) the
worlds through the big-bangs, you are known as Vaamaa.
You are life of Vishnu. You are called Jyeshtha, and you are
maintaining the galaxies. You are also the life of Rudra and are
called as Raudri. You are swallowing the worlds like black holes.
Without the life (that is you), Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Shiva and
sadashiva have become dead wood. Since you are relaxing on the
cot made of these 5 great Gods, you are named as “Panch-
Pretasanasina”
Additional notes: As you know, Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra are
responsible for Creation, maintenance and destruction. There are
two more references in the scriptures. Shiva dissolves the residue
of destruction into the void. Sadashiva generates the materials
required for Brahma’s creation from the void. So, these five Gods
are called Panch-Brahmas. Refer: Pancha-Brahmasana-sthitha in
LS.

Kavamadev was killed by Mahadev by his third eye at once.
However, he could not burn the shamelessness (Bhanda-bhava)
which remained as ashes and formed into Demon Bhanda. O
Lalitha, you killed Bhanda into void and gave life to Kamadev who is
an essential element to move the world forward. Hails the ocean of
your mercy.
Notes: There are 6 six mental states considered as evil in Indian
tradition. They are called as Ari-Shat-Varga (six fold enemies),
kama (lust) krodha (Anger) Lobha (Greed) Moha(dilution) Mada
(Ego) and Matsara (jealousy) . In these six shlokas I have described
how Devi is not bound by these states, so her disciples.

O Lalitha, you are in the form of 16 vowels of Sanskrit alphabet (‘A’

consonants starting from ‘Ka’ to ‘Bha’ in 12 pairs like ka-bha, kha-

consonant starting from ‘Ya’ to ‘Ksha’, 10 in number and named as
rays of Fire. You are also the ruler of consonant ‘Ma’. Thus, you form
a rosary of shining crystals of alphabets starting from ‘A’ to ‘Ksha’.
(since the alphabets start from A and end at Ksha, they are called
‘Akshara’). I pray you in my heart as golden garland of alphabets,

This verse describes 15 lettered Mantra that is starting with letter
‘Ha’, This is invented and worshipped by Lopamudra, wife of sage
Agastya and by the followers of that tradition. Parashurama says in
Kalpasutra ी-गु -व -एक-ल या-इ त means the Mantra should be
obtained only from the mouth of Guru, and expression of the
Mantra by writing etc is not allowed.
Every alphabet of Sanskrit letter is associated with an energy.
Trantriks use the name of the energy to represent the alphabet, so
it can be kept secret from common people. I have followed the same
tradition.
Shiva, Shakti, Kama, Earth and Yoni are the letters of first part of
the Mantra and is called Vaagbhava Koota.
Sun, Moon, Kama, Swan, Indra, Bhuvaneshvari are the letters of
second part of the Mantra and is called Kamaraja Koota.
Paraa, Kama, Indra, Bhuvaneshvari are the letters of the third part
of the Mantra and is called Shakti Koota.
Thus the Mantra starting with letter ‘Ha’ is your body itself.

Kama, Shakti, Bindumalini, Indra, Bhuvanaeshwari form the first
part Vaagbhava. Sun, Moon, Kama, Sky, Indra and Yoni form the
second part Kamaraja. BhRgu, Kama, Earth and Bhuvaneshwari

This verse describes 3 Mantras, Para vidya, Baala Vidya and

Para Mantra is formed by 3 alphabets i.e. BhRgu, Trishula and
Visarga.
If the Para vidya is prefixed with VaanI and Kama letters, it
becomes Baala mantra.
If the letters of Baala Mantra are placed in the beginning of 3 parts
of Kaadi vidya (15 lettered Mantra starting with 'Ka'), it becomes
Saubhagya Vidya, which is granter of all abundance and happiness.

O’ Devi sitting on the lap of Kameshvara, being in the gross form,
you are pleased by the worship that I perform through my limbs.
Being in the subtle form, you are pleased with the mental (or inner)
worship that I perform. You are also pleased with the Raho-yaga, in
which you embrace your beloved in mystery. You are
transcendental yet are tied with bhakti (emotions and feelings).

Paramaguru Parameshvara has revealed all the knowledge from his
five faces (i.e. Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurasha and
Ishana). He happily granted this knowledge to remove the darkness
of ignorance of the worlds.
Being the source of light of knowledge, you knew all the 64 tantras
revealed by Shiva along with Veda and other knowledge. However,
you still asked him for more. Thus compelled, Paramashiva has
granted this method of worship involving your Mantras.
(Thus the 2nd part of 108 verses is complete. First 36 verses
described Lalithopakhyana, and 2nd 36 verses described glory of
Lalitha. Next 36 verses will describe the method of her worship as
authorized by Paramashiva).

I get up early in the morning. Finish Sandhya-vandanam, japa and

equal to Guru in removing the darkness of ignorance. Afterword, I
express intention (sankalpa) of your worship.

I am surrounded by the ocean of nectar. I am in the island of gems

compounds of gems and supported by innumerable pillars of gems.

I leave that illusion that I am the body. I leave this body for
experience beyond the senses. I see my body decomposed in the
five basic elements of creation (Pancha-bhoota), (so that it does not
pull me back during pooja). Now I see you as the only energy
everywhere within and outside. With pleasant mind, I take breath
(pranayama), directed by your mantras, so that the energy can
move freely everywhere. Thus, with great reverence, I mentally
perform this exercise called ‘Viraja Homa’ which removes all sins
and makes the worship successful.

ego, and jealousy) be the incense stick as offering to you. Like mind

No Mantra can reach you. Nor any Yantra. No amount of reading,
praising, fasting or fire offerings can take me there. No worship or
Yoga can bring me near to you. O Mother, you treat every child
equally whether (s)he is devotee or sinful. Let your merciful look
(which is protecting the worlds) take me to merge into your feet.

Author’s Note
Having prayed Guru Parashurama with a stotra named ‘Bhargava –
stotra-ratna-Malika, this is my attempt to pray my dear Goddess
Lalitha. For engaging the mind in Lalitha for several years, this
prayer has taken birth. I did not know this was in me, before it
could take the form. Her intension has put the seed in my mind
which grown to yield flower and fruits which you enjoy, I hope.
This is a result of my search towards Goddess Lalitha. Information
here has been collected from various scriptures related to her. To
name and acknowledge them, they are: Lalithopakhyana, Lalitha –
sahasranama, Srichakra -pooja-vidhana, Lalitharchana-chandrika,
Khadgamala-stotra, Tripura rahasya, Bhavanopanishad,
Parashurama-Kalpasutra and Saundraya Lahari. The prayer
contains only her topics. Howeer, she is beyond the topics, for
Goddess is always beyond the scriptures. This is not to deny
scriptures, but to exceed them. Tantriks have shown us the
freedom of exceedeing the scriptures. Even the great sages like
Shankara, Ramanuja and Madhva have thought beyond their
contemperories, to put forth their view.
I am no scholar nor poet. These feelings came to my mind when I
was in a praying mood. I am convinced that the Vagdevis have
granted these into my mind. I have only penned them. There are
errors in the stotra due to limitation of my mind, education and
experience. Please identify them and let me know, so that same
can be corrected in future versions.
