The main menu of all monocylinder sock machines contains the same functions, as shown below,
except the ones with mechanic selection which do not display the function “Pattern”.

General Chain Prestyle paTtern Format cOdify Info

The functions of the main menu can be activated in two ways: press the [Alt]
key and, keeping it pressed, the capital letter highlighted in the selected option or,
after pressing the [Alt] key, move the cursor onto the option using the arrow keys
and confirm by pressing [ENTER]. If you choose the second procedure, on the lower part of the
screen you will see a line (help) describing the command highlighted by the cursor. Remember that
the lower lines of the screen always display information regarding the command or the function
highlighted by the cursor.

The options on the main menu can be considered as commands to enter menues which contain other
commands, functions and sub-menues.

The first two columns present the group the prestyle belongs to and the name (file) of the
prestyle. Note that an “asterisk” (*) indicates that the name that follows belongs to a group
of standard prestyles (* AUTO is actually the group of Lonati standard prestyles). In the
third column you find a brief description of the prestyle.
Should you need to modify the prestyle, and thus the program, move the cursor onto the
desired position and press [CTRL] and [i] to add a new prestyle, and [CTRL] and [d] to
delete the prestyle highlighted by the cursor. Symbol [^] identifies the [CTRL] key.
Besides a Lonati standard prestyle, it is also possible to insert a user prestyle. In fact, when
you insert a prestyle you first see the list of groups of prestyles in which you find both
Lonati groups and user groups. If at this point you choose a user group, then it will also be
possible to insert a user prestyle.

CAUTION: the procedure of the“guided creation” of the sock assures a permanent

control of the prestyles used; on the contrary, if the prestyles are inserted or modified
by the user, no control is carried out. We therefore recommend to pay great attention
when using this command in order to avoid inserting or deleting prestyles that
contrast with the machine operation in the prestyle insertion or deletion points.

12
PROGRAMMING SINGLE CYLINDER SOCK MACHINES SERIE 400 RISC

When you insert a user prestyle in the list of the prestyles in use, the group to which the
prestyle belongs (without “asterisk”) will be displayed in the first column; the second
column will display the name (file) of the prestyles and the third the description of the
prestyle, if provided.

Save prestyle
With this option you can save one of the prestyles that make up the program as a user
prestyle by recording all the functions and grades that were set in the program.
After choosing it, the list of prestyles that make up the program will be displayed, just like
with the option “prestyles in use”. Move the cursor onto the prestyle that you want to save
and press the [ENTER] key. If you have selected a Lonati standard prestyle, then it will not
be possible to save it, as Lonati prestyles cannot be modified and it is only possible to save
copies of them as user prestyles.
Once you have confirmed the prestyle to be saved, the list of groups of user prestyles will
appear on the screen. After choosing the group, type in the name of the new user prestyle
and confirm with the [ENTER] key. If you insert the name of a prestyle which is already
stored, the computer will ask for your confirmation before overwriting the prestyle.

Program header
With this table you can insert the program basic information, such as the number of needles
of the machine, the oil cycle and the cylinder diameter as shown in the next picture.

PROGRAM HEADER
Machine Needles

Jacks number per diagonal

Oil program

Machine diameter

The number of needles of the machine can be modified in order to transfer the same
program to a machine which has a different number of needles.
The jacks number per diagonal, is the number of jacks butt that one cylinder diagonal is
made of; possible values are: 6 for machine L442J and 8 for all others type. A wrong value
will cause errors in pattern selections by the machine.
The lubrication cycle determines after how many socks you want the oil cycle (entered in
the program using function 3 - lubricator) to take place; if, for instance, the number you
type in is 4, then the oil cycle will take place only every four socks, if you type in 1 the oil
will be pumped in each sock (typically for machines to be run in).
The type of cylinder diameter is a code which identifies the real diameter of the cylinder.
The table here below shows the ratio between the codes to be inserted and the cylinder
diameters.

INSERTION CYLINDER DIAMETER

CODE (in inches)
1 3½
2 3¾
3 4
4 5
5 4¼

The cylinder diameter must be inserted in order to modify the sock stitch using the machine panel;
in case of a wrong programmation of this code, the machine will display an alarm.

Graduation blocks
This option is used for setting the values determining the width of the sock in single
blocks. It is necessary to compile the blocks page after you have created a new program and
it is frequently used for modifying existing programs. The sock program is made up of
prestyles containing the graduation adjusting blocks. Every block corresponds to one of the
parts making up the sock, such as welt, leg, heel, foot, toe etc.
The page for the compilation of the blocks is shown below.

Should you need to modify the values of the cylinder-raising motor, of the stitch width or
the name of the graduation block, move the cursor onto the block parameter line and press
the [ENTER] key to display the window in which you can make the changes in the block,
as it is shown in the picture below.

BLOCK NAME
PLAIN LEG

PROGRAM STEP SIZE MOTOR WIDTH

BEGIN END BEGIN END BEGIN END
12 18 280 280 20.0 20.0

PROGRAM STEP : number of start and end step of the block in the sock program.
These steps are set according to the composition of the prestyle as a basic datum of the
block.

SIZE MOTOR : these are values concerning the cylinder-raising motor for the stitch
adjustment; the two columns indicate the initial and final height the motor reaches in the
specified block. These values need to be inserted in order to adjust the stitch according to
the type of yarn used for the sock.

The motor movement corresponds to the inserted value:

low value = low cylinder = narrow stitch

17
PROGRAMMING SINGLE CYLINDER SOCK MACHINES SERIE 400 RISC

high value = high cylinder = loose stitch

These values are meant as small movements of the motor (steps) and thus as small
variations in the machine cylinder.

WIDTH : these are the values concerning the stitch width in the single block.
It is important to know that every variation in the stitch in the machine will be caused by
the number of motor steps that have been programmed, and not by the width set. The
values set in the WIDTH area are inserted to enable variations in the stitch using the
keyboard on the machine while producing the sock.
You can graduate the width of the stitch by inserting initial values which are different from
the final ones. If the number you insert for the initial value is higher than the final one, the
stitch will be narrower; if the number you insert for the initial value is lower than the final
one, the stitch will be looser. An example of how to program a graduation is shown below.

“ “ “ “ “ “ “
“ “ “ “ “ “ “
Plain leg 12 18 280 280 20.0 20.0
Graduation 1 19 19 280 220 20.0 19.0
Leg 2 20 23 220 220 19.0 19.0
“ “ “ “ “ “ “
“ “ “ “ “ “ “

As these graduations are gradual, they have to occur in a program step containing an
economisation. The machine will then subdivide the variation in width by the number of
steps in the economisations: with high economization values the variation in the width of
the stitch will be more gradual.

Each page of the table corresponds to one of the eight available sizes.
Use the page change keys [Pag ↓] and [Pag ↑] to move to the next or previous size.
After you have filled in the first size with the motor and width values, you can copy those
values for the other seven sizes. To do this, move onto the first size, press the [F2] key and
then the [ENTER] key to confirm. Then move onto the second size, press [F3] and
[ENTER] to confirm. Repeat the procedure using the [F3] key for the remaining sizes.
Once all sizes have been filled in, you can store the values by pressing the [F4] key and
then [ENTER] to confirm. Storing all the sizes is very useful to reload the same values in
another program that has the same stitch blocks (with the [F5] key). If the program has not
the same stitch blocks, then only the stitch blocks values with the same names will be
copied.

To insert a graduation block, use [Ctrl] and [i]; to delete a block press [Ctrl] and [d].

It is also possible to copy the graduation values from a block to another. If, say, you want
to copy the graduation values programmed for the heel in the toe, first move the cursor
onto the heel block and press [Ctrl] and [F2] to store the values. After that, move the cursor
onto the toe block and press [Ctrl] and [F3] to write the values.

Elastic block
This option is used for setting the values determining the quantity of rubber to be used in
the sock. As for the stitch graduation, the rubber is programmed in single blocks. Every
block corresponds to a specific programming area of the elastic motor. Each area is
identified by a name, is delimited by a start and end program step and contains the elastic
motor values.

18
PROGRAMMING SINGLE CYLINDER SOCK MACHINES SERIE 400 RISC

Values for the elastic are inserted in a table which is similar to the one used for the stitch
blocks.
ELASTIC BLOCK NAME
BEGIN WELT

PROGRAM STEP ELASTIC MOTOR

BEGIN END BEGIN END
4 9 1300 1300

PROGRAM STEP : Here you write the number of start and end step of the elastic block.
These steps are set according to the composition of the prestyle as a basic datum of the
block.

ELASTIC MOTOR : Here you set the values regulating the quantity of elastic in the sock.
The two columns indicate the initial and final height the motor reaches in the specified
block. These values need to be inserted in order to adjust the quantity of rubber according
to the elasticity.

As for the graduation blocks, it is possible to program increasing or decreasing rubber

graduations: if the number you insert for the initial value is higher than the final one, the
rubber will be narrower; if the number you insert for the initial value is lower than the final
one, the rubber will be looser. The keys to be used for storing these values and for loading
one or all sizes are the ones described in the paragraph regarding the graduation blocks.

CODIFY MENU
This menu is displayed as in the picture below.

File Styles Print sTep Edit List Codify Info

Send to machine

save on Hard disk

The term CODIFY identifies the phase when the computer translates the function codes you have
inserted in the program into the language the machine can understand. During this phase (codify),
the computer analyses all data in the program and interrupts the elaboration if errors are found. The
most common errors are: insertion of wrong names of patterns, insertion of unexisting selections or
foot bottoms names, insertion of unexisting function codes. If an error has occured, the codify is
interrupted and a message on the screen specifies in which program step the error has occured ( if
possible) and the type of error.

As there is no control regarding the cam entries and exits, you must be very careful in modifying
them. Programming the cams incorrectly might seriously damage parts of the machine.

Send to machine
This is for sending the coded program directly to the machine by means of a cable
connecting the computer to the machine via the black box “sender”.

Save on FDU disk

This is for transferring the coded program onto the DD ( double density ) floppy disk. All
coded programs which have been saved on floppy disk will be tranferred to the machine by
means of the FDU ( Floppy Disk Unit ). It is important to underline that a coded program
which has been stored on floppy disk can only be read by the machine, so it is impossible
to recover the original program from a coded program.

Save on hard disk

This is for recording the coded program on hard disk.
Storing on hard disk makes it possible to transfer the coded program onto the floppy disk
or to the machine at any time. The hard disk can be considered as a “parking” area for the
programs to be permanently available for future transfers. Should you need to modify a
program whose codify is recorded on hard disk, always remember to update or delete the
codify in order to avoid discrepancies between the stored codify and the sock program.

PROGRAM STEPS PROGRAMMING

The chain step page is subdivided into different insertion areas, each with a very precise meaning.

Before accessing data insertion or modification, you have to activate the cursor using the [INS] key.
You can then move the cursor from one area to another using the arrow keys. Insert the numeric or
alphabetic values of interest, bearing in mind that you can use either the numbers situated above the
letters of the alphabet or the numbers on the numeric keypad on the right of the keyboard. If you use
the numeric keypad, make sure that the Num Lock green light is on, if it is off, these keys will work
as cursor controls. To delete data use the grey [Back-space] key, marked by an arrow heading left,
that you find over the [ENTER] key.
Once you have finished inserting or modifying values and you want to record the new data, you
must first deactivate the cursor by pressing the [FINE] (END) key, and then save the page by
pressing the [F8] function key.
The table below describes the keys and their functions.

We shall now describe each data insertion area.

R.P.M.
In this area you insert the machine cylinder rotation speed.
The machine maintains the speed set until another speed with a different value is programmed.

SIZES
Repetitions of the same step.
When the machine carries out a step of the program in which economizations have been inserted,
this step is repeated as many times as the number which has been programmed.
Eight sizes ( economizations ) are available per step, and they can be inserted in all the steps which
do not contain data, paying attention to leave an empty step between the step with economizations
and the step containing the name of a pattern.

24
PROGRAMMING SINGLE CYLINDER SOCK MACHINES SERIE 400 RISC

FOR ... STEPS

Repetition of a group of steps.
Whilst economizations repeat a single step, the FOR...STEPS repeats a number of consecutive
steps. When the machine carries out a step of the program in which the FOR....STEPS has been
inserted, it will repeat the specified number of steps.
If you want to repeat the cycle of steps inserted in the FOR...STEPS several times, program the
number of repetitions you want in the economizations area.
This function is typically used for socks which have their rows made with yarn finger changes on
the main feed.
If you want to repeat 20 steps 6 times, you will write:

For 20 Step 1) 6 2) 6 3) 6 4) 6 5) 6 6) 6 7) 6 8 ) 6

in this way the step containing the FOR...STEPS plus the next 19 steps will be repeated 6 times.
If you want to program rows, then the yarn finger changes will have to be inserted inside the cycle.
You should consider that all the commands inserted in the FOR...STEPS steps will be carried out
cyclically, so it is always better to make sure that the data entries (+) and exits (-) are correctly
programmed.

FUNCTIONS
These are codes which have an effect in the step.
They are activated at 0 degrees of the programming step and are deactivated at the end of the step
(359 degrees). So, if a function has to stay active for several steps, it has to be programmed in all of
those steps.

SPECIAL FUNCTIONS
Special Functions are codes which are activated at the degree of the cylinder you want.
Insert the addition (+) sign to activate the codes, and the subtraction (-) sign to deactivate them.

Activate the function Deactivate the function

If the entry (+) and exit (-) signs are omitted, the special functions will not be analysed during the
codify phase and consequently they will not be transferred to the machine.
An example of how the special functions are programmed is given below.

Special functions 10_13+ 12_50+ 10_85-

Activates / Deactivates ( + and - signs )

Degree of intervention (from 0 to 359)
Function code (from 1 to 35 )

Code 10 comes into operation at 13 degrees and is deactivated at 85 degrees;

code 12 is activated at 50 degrees and stays active until its exit is programmed.

25
PROGRAMMING SINGLE CYLINDER SOCK MACHINES SERIE 400 RISC

CAMS
The “Cams” codes are activated at the degree of the cylinder you want.
These codes activate the cams for the processing of the article.

Varying the position, the degrees, deleting these functions means changing the item substantially.
For this reason, programming these functions incorrectly would not only cause the machine to
malfunction, but might also damage the mechanical parts.
It is necessary to undestand the mechanics and textile features of the machine thoroughly before
modifying the codes of the cams.

Insert the addition (+) sign to activate these codes and the subtraction (-) sign to deactivate them.

Activate the function Deactivate the function

If the entry (+) and exit (-) signs are omitted, the codes of the cams will not be analysed during the
codify phase and consequently they will not be transferred to the machine.
An example of how the cams are programmed is given below.

Cams 39_13+ 60_50+ 39_85-

Activates / Deactivates ( + and - signs )

Degree of intervention (from 0 to 359)
Function code (from 36 to 90 )

Code 39 comes into operation at 13 degrees and is deactivated at 85 degrees;

code 60 is activated at 50 degrees and stays active until its exit is programmed.

FINGERS
In this area you can program the yarn finger movements.
You first have to insert the feed code, then the finger code, the degree of intervention and the entry
and exit commands.
If the entry (+) and exit (-) signs are omitted, the finger movements will not be analysed during the
codify phase and consequently they will not be transferred to the machine.
An example of how the yarn fingers are programmed is given below.

Yarn Fingers 1_ 2_150+ 1_ 3_160-

Activates / Deactivates ( + and - signs )

Degree of intervention (from 0 to 359)
YARN FINGER code
FEED code

In the first case yarn finger 2 on feed 1 enters at 150 degrees;

in the second case yarn finger 3 on feed 1 exits at 160 degrees.

As for programming the special functions, always remember to use the entry (+) and exit (-) signs
correctly.

26
PROGRAMMING SINGLE CYLINDER SOCK MACHINES SERIE 400 RISC

AIR VALVE
In this area you insert the suction control valve movements.
These movements are controlled by a step by step motor which is operated by inserting codes in this
area.

Degree of intervention ( 0 - 359 )

Valve motor movement steps ( 0 - 73 )
Valve position ( 0 - 1 - 2 - L - R )

Valve position
0 - There is no suction.
1 - Suction arrives from the antitwist or it is used for the turning device (if they are assembled
on the machine).
2 - Suction arrives from the bell
L - Rotates the valve stepping motor to the left by a value (expressed in steps) between 0 and
73 inclusive. This movement modifies the valve position when it is completely closed.
R - Rotates the valve stepping motor to the right by a value (expressed in steps) between 0 and
73 inclusive. This movement modifies the valve position when it is completely open.

EXAMPLE 2_200 This completely opens the suction control valve creating suction in the
bell.

R_6 200 This moves the suction control valve to the left by 60 steps at 200 degrees.

When the parameters L or R are used, the suction control valve must be put back in its initial
position before any other valve command is carried out. If, for instance, a command of the type
given above is inserted, it is necessary to repeat the same command, but this time using the letter L.

PATTERN
This is the area where the pattern name is inserted.
The patterns are prepared with the graphics program, and so the name of the pattern must be written
on this page in order to pass the pattern information on to the machine.
The insertion area is displayed as shown below.

Pattern start / end ( + and - signs )

Alternation parameter
Number of rotation needles
Rotation parameter
Codify type code
Pattern name

27
PROGRAMMING SINGLE CYLINDER SOCK MACHINES SERIE 400 RISC

Pattern name: insert the name of the pattern you want to have in the sock.
IMPORTANT! Remember that the start of a pattern cannot be programmed in a step containing
economizations and that there must be at least one empty step between a step
containing economizations and the step where the pattern starts.

Codify type code: insert the type of codify which is appropriate for the type of pattern. The coding
codes are numbers which are used by the program in the pattern codify phase; they are
different from one machine to the other: L462C4 and L454J; for the machines L462K and
L462C4 they are the same.
The list of the codify codes for each type of machine is given in the appendix to this manual.

Rotation parameter: this makes it possible to move the pattern horizontally to the right or to the left
on the cylinder. To understand how the rotation operates, imagine a sock with a pattern in
the foot where the foot bottom is. The foot bottom normally covers the pattern and the
pattern might not be completely visible for a few needles. If you insert the parameters R
(right) and L (left), you can rotate the pattern by the number of needles necessary to
display it completely. If you insert this parameter then you have to insert the number of
needles in the next area.
All rotation codes and their meaning are listed below.

C Centrale
R Destra
L Sinistra
M Duplicazione della seconda ripetizione del disegno tipo specchio
S Ribaltamento tipo specchio di tutto il disegno

Number of rotation needles: insert the number of needles you intend to rotate the pattern by.
Only use this area if you have inserted the rotation parameters.

Alternation parameter: this command is used for certain jacquard patterns which work on 2 feeds for
the L462C4 machine.
Accepted values are:
N= normal execution of the pattern
Y= pattern with alternate stitch to be used only with codify type 2 (jacquard)

Alternation means that every needle of the pattern with a fixed 1x1 selection is alternated on
the two feeds. For this reason, the number of needles of the patterns with alternation must be
half the total number of needles. If, for instance, the machine has 200 needles and you want
to create a pattern which is repeated two times on the revolution, the pattern will have 50
needles, i.e. 50 needles plus the alternation equals 100, because a needle is inserted after
every needle of the pattern and this needle always takes the thread on both feeds, and so
everything is repeated for the other 100 needles. Alternation only has an effect on two
colours in the pattern, namely FONDO_1 and FONDO_2, all the other colours will be
duplicated. So, if you want alternate stitch and plain fabric in the same sock, use colours
MR_1 and MR_2 in the pattern as well as FONDO_1 and FONDO_2, as they are not subject
to alternation.

Enters / Exits: + = pattern start

- = pattern end

If there are several patterns in the sock, each pattern start is considered to be the end of the previous
pattern, so usually only the last pattern has an exit.
An example of how to program a pattern is shown below.

28

FOGLIE _1_ _ _ _+ JACQU1 _2_ _ _Y_+
FOGLIE _1_ _ _ _- JACQU1 _2_ _ _Y_-

ELASTIC PATTERN
Should a particular elastic selection be necessary, you can create a pattern representing the selection
you want.
The type of programming is identical to the PATTERN programming, but here the codify type must
necessarily be 4.
Elastic pattern programming is used both for the welt and for the leg with rubber for sport socks.
The rubber pattern is made by the same drum which carries out the fixed selection for the rubber, so
the drum will interrupt the selection until the pattern is finished.

The colours used for this type of pattern are FONDO_1 and ELASTICO, where FONDO_1 is the
needle which passes low down and the ELASTICO colour is the needle which passes high up;
consider that you should design one FONDO_1 needle and three ELASTICO needles in order to
obtain a 3x1 type sports sock selection.
Assuming you want a welt with pattern with colours and that the rubber selection emulates a
diagonal, the data should be inserted in the machine program steps as is given below.
The L462C4 machine has been used in the example, with FIORI as the pattern name and DIAGON
as the elastic diagonal pattern name.

Pattern FIORI _3_ _ _ _+ Rubber DIAGON _4_ _ _ _+

The end of the rubber pattern should be programmed as is given below:

Pattern PLAIN _1_ _ _ _+ Rubber DIAGON _4_ _ _ _-

FOOT BOTTOM PATTERN

Foot bottom pattern is used when you want to remove the pattern in the lower part of the foot.

Foot bottom start / end ( + and - signs )

Foot bottom width in needles
Foot bottom start needle
Code of foot bottom codify type 1 = pattern 1 feed;
2 = pattern 2 feeds
Foot bottom name

The foot bottom is a real pattern and must be considered as a pattern which is superimposed on the
sock pattern and which covers it, so there are different types of foot bottoms.
The foot bottom pattern is used:
a) to cancel the pattern in the lower part of the foot
b) to write a logotype in the lower part of the foot
c) to shape a foot bottom in the jacquard knitting (only jacquard machines)
In all these cases, it is always necessary to create a pattern which determines the foot bottom
knitting area. Patterns for the most common foot bottoms are already stored in the computer. The
list of these patterns can be displayed by selecting the option “Foot Bottom” on the “List” menu.

29
PROGRAMMING SINGLE CYLINDER SOCK MACHINES SERIE 400 RISC

An example of how to program the foot bottom is shown below.

‹ Standard foot bottom.

The lower part of the foot is plain and without any
pattern.
Consider a machine with 108 needles, its
programmation will be:

PLAIN _ 1 _ 81 _ 54 +

the pattern in the sock is coded for 1 feed,

dimensions of the foot bottom pattern PLAIN are
4 needles per 4 courses, the foot bottom start is the
first short needle and the foot bottom width
corresponds to the number of machine needles
divided by two.
‹ Foot bottom with logotype.
The lower part of the foot contains both the pattern
and the logotype.

LOGO _ 1 _ 1 _ 108 +

the pattern in the sock is coded for 1 feed,

dimensions of the foot bottom pattern LOGO are
108 needles per 90 courses, the foot bottom color
is TRANSPARENTE, the logotype uses colours,
the border of the logotype is colour FONDO_1,
the foot bottom start is the needle in the middle of
the short needles and the dimension of the foot
bottom corresponds to all machine needles.
‹ Shaped foot bottom.
In the lower part of the foot you find a false rib
foot bottom with variable perimeter.

LINEVAR _ 2 _ 1 _ 108 +

the pattern in the sock is coded for 2 feeds,

dimensions of the foot bottom pattern LINEVAR
are 108 needles per 290 courses, the foot bottom
color is TRANSPARENTE, the shaping uses the
colours of the jacquard knitting, the foot bottom
start is in the middle of the short needles and the
foot bottom dimension corresponds to all machine
needles.
Whenever you want to create foot bottom patterns, you have to enter the graphics program and
select the type of machine for which you want to draw the new foot bottom. To recognize the type
of machine, it is enough to select the machine name followed by the word “OVER”; if, for example,
you have to draw a foot bottom for the L462C4R, you will have to select the option “462OVER”.

If after a selection on the elastic drum, also a “elastic pattern” is programmed, the drum will
interrupt the fixed selection to make the pattern; then, once the “elastic pattern” has been completed,
the drum will start the selection back.

PATTERN DRUM LEVERS

(This insertion area exists only for the machines without pattern).
These are slides which are used for programming the selections which can be obtained by means of
the selectors in the cylinder; this area is only to be found in the programming page for machines
which do not have electronic drums for the selection of needles.
Their operating principle is like the one adopted for the yarn fingers.

in the second case lever 6 on pattern drum 1 exits at 200 degrees.

It is important to remember that the position of the levers when they are not programmed, i.e. are at
rest, is against the cylinder, so that when an entry is programmed, the lever physically exits from
machining.
As for programming the special functions, always remember to use the (+) and (-) signs correctly.

GUIDED CREATION
With this function it is possible to create a machine program using the Lonati standard blocks. On
the screen two windows decribe the blocks to be selected and the blocks already selected. Move the
cursor onto the block which you want to insert in the sock and confirm with the [ENTER] key.
The page shown below will appear on the screen.

The first choice to be made is between plain and terry sock. After you have selected, the screen will
display a page describing the blocks necessary to start making the sock.
The creation of the chain program with the help of the “guided creation” is much recommended as it
prevents the customer from making mistakes in the choice of prestyles. The combinations of sock
blocks presented with the “guided creation” cover a wide range of articles, and for each choice made
the computer displays all possibilities until the program is carried out.
While selecting the blocks both the description of the blocks and the names of files (prestyles) will
be displayed in the block selection window, as shown in the picture below.

AUTO C006 SINGLE WELT 1F

The first column presents the name of the group the standard prestyle belongs to, the second column
contains the prestyle name and and a brief description of the type of prestyle. It is very important to
know the name of the prestyle in case you need to create a user prestyle containing the basic
standard functions or if you want to store the functions that you have modified in the program which
are contained in a specific prestyle; this is possible because the program functions belonging to a
Lonati standard prestyle can be saved in a user prestyle by selecting the option “Save prestyle” from
the “Prestyle” menu in the sock programming page.

32
PROGRAMMING SINGLE CYLINDER SOCK MACHINES SERIE 400 RISC

Once the “guided creation” has been carried out, you are asked for the confirmation of the blocks
selected for the sock. After confirming, select the group in which you want the prestyle to be
inserted and then write the name of the program and a description of the program. Inserting the
description of the program is necessary for the creation of the sock, as this description will be
displayed in the “description” area on top of the page displaying the program. Should you need to
modify the description of a program after creating it, select the option “Description” from the “File”
menu in the sock programming page.

The new program which has just been created contains all the basic functions for making the sock,
such as cams, yarn fingers, stitch width and rubber values; only data referring to the heading will
have to be inserted by selecting the “Chain heading” command from the “Edit” menu in the sock
programming page. Stitch width data and rubber values are to be considered indicative as they will
have to be updated in relation to the type of yarn used in the sock.

FORMAT MENU
Formatting makes it possible to use a floppy disk in the computer.
With this operation all information contained on the floppy disk are deleted.

Select the format menu from the main menu with the [Alt] and
[F] keys. It will be displayed as in the piscture below. +
General Chain Prestyle paTtern Format cOdify Info
Disk drive 1.44 Mb
diSk drive 720 Kb

Formatting makes it possible to use a new disk, so it is the first operation to be carried out if the
floppy disk has never been used before. Even disks which have already been used can be formatted,
should you wish to delete their whole contents.

To format a floppy disk, insert it into the unit (drive) and then select from the menu the floppy
suitable formatting command.

There are two possible types of formatting:

Disk drive 1.44 Mb

HD (high density) 1.4 Megabyte floppy disks are used as filing floppy disks, i.e. files
(chains, prestyles, patterns) are copied onto them and they are kept as file or back-up
copies. The files copied onto these floppy disks can be recopied onto the hard disk or onto
another floppy disk.

Disk drive 720 Kb

DD (double density) floppy disks, on the other hand, are only used to receive coded
programs (for the machine). These floppy disks are then inserted into the FDU unit which
transfers the sock program to the machine.

Before a floppy disk is formatted, a message asking for your confirmation will be displayed, as
shown in the picture below.

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO FORMAT THE DISK ?

↵ ENTER = confirm

Esc = abort

Always pay great attention before formatting a floppy disk as this is an irreversible operation: once
the formatting has been carried out, it will be no more possible to recover the data contained on the
floppy disk.

Configure

This menu is used to transfer to the machine sock programs which have been codified and stored
either on hard disk or on floppy disk for the FDU. It also makes it possible to select to which serial
port the cable for the transmission of the program is connected. If the computer has a double drive,
select which drive must be used to save the programs coded on the floppy disk.
(The word “drive” indicates the floppy disk reader which is in the computer).
The FDU is the floppy disk reader which enables the loading of programs in the machine.
(FDU stands for Floppy Disk Unit).

HARD DISK
Displays the menu for transferring programs coded and stored on hard disk.

Send codify transfer a coded program to the machine;

Delete delete a coded program from the hard disk;
List display the list of programs coded on hard disk;
Floppy DD copy a program coded on hard disk onto the floppy disk.

FLOPPY DISK
Displays the menu to transfer programs coded and saved on the floppy disk.

Send codify transfer a coded program to the machine;

Delete delete a coded program from the floppy disk;
List display the list of programs coded on the floppy disk.

CONFIGURE
Displays the menu for the configuration of the serial port and the drive (floppy disk).

COM port select the serial port for transferring programs;

Floppy drive select the drive for saving programs on the floppy disk.

Normally standard values should not be modified, as they already are correctly set during
the phase of installation of the software. A wrong programmation of these codes could
seriously damage the computer, i.e. it could prevent the coded program from beeing
transferred to the machine or the program coded on floppy disk for FDU from beeing
transmitted.

PATTERN CODIFY TYPE CODES FOR L462C4R AND L462KR MACHINES

1 - One feed pattern for four colours on the course

2 - Two feed pattern for three colours on the course, plain fabric, jacquard.
The patterns for codify in two feeds must have an even number of courses, since the
odd course is carried out by the first feed and the even course by the second feed.
To make production easier, these patterns can be created as if they were for
one feed, then doubling their height at the end.

3 - One feed pattern for three colours on the course for rubber.
This is only to be used together with code 4 which codes the rubber pattern for the welt
and for the leg.

4 - Rubber pattern.
This is inserted in the step compilation page when the name of the rubber pattern is
specified. This code is only used with code 3 which codes the pattern to be
superimposed on the rubber.
