LESSON 1 Module 1

AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY

List at least THREE (3) human activities that are related

Activity꞉ to agriculture and forestry. Write your answers to the
designed columns.

AGRICULTURE FORESTRY

1. FARMING 1.HUNTING
2. IRRIGATION 2.CUTTING THE TREE
.
3. DEFORESTRATION
3. MINING

From your given answers, pick only ONE (1) activity and point
Analysis: out the advantages and disadvantages of such activity to the
environment.

Advantages:
 I pick mining the advantages of mining are the
economic incomes, enormous earnings by exportation,
private contracts, job offers and opportunities in locals.
Extraction of essential resources raw materials like
natural gas, oil, coal, minerals, etc and it’s also brings
about energy.
Disadvantages:
 The disadvantages of mining are contamination of the
natural environment, pollution such as land or acid
mine drainage and contaminated water sources. This is
a counter-effect against agriculture. Barely permanent
destruction of ecosystems erosion, denaturalization and
chemical poisoning of people nearby.

Analyze the illustration below. Explain the relationship

APPLICATION: between agriculture and climate change.

Agriculture is and economic activity that is highly dependent upon

weather and climate in order to produce the food and the fiber necessary
to sustain human life. Climate is often a limiting factor that determines
what agricultural crops and endeavors one should invest in. Climate
affects the temperature trends, the seasons, the length of the growing
season, the amount of sunlight and the seasonality of sunlight, and so
forth. All organisms are adapted to their environment, thus it is logical to
work with species adapted or suitable to the local climatic conditions of
each area.

FISHING AND HUNTING

Unscramble the words in Column A, write your answer in Column B and

Activity: determine which sector those words belong (Fishing or Hunting) and write
your answer in Column C.

Column A Column B Column C

1. IHRFEIESS FISHERIES FISHING

2. OAICGNPH POACHING HUNTING

3. SAACRCS CARCASS HUNTING

4. WATRSL TRAWLS FISHING

5. GOIIEVFSRHN OVERFISHING FISHING

6. IIOETCTNNX EXTINCTION HUNTING

Fishing and Hunting are common human activities. To what extent

these activities start causing damages to the environment? Analyze
Analysis:
the images on Figure 1.1 and Figure 2.2 below to help you expound
your answer.

Overfishing Poaching

FIGURE 1.1 FIGURES 2.2

Overfishing occur when more fish are caught then are able to
reproduce to repopulate. Because fishing has long been an industry
used by humans, there are a number of reasons why it is a problem
today. Some of the causes most areas in the world have a total lack
of oversight related to their fishing industry, which means the
practices and activities of fishing fleets are not or barely
monitored. And lack of knowledge regarding of the fish
populations and in a universal standard.

There are many causes for poaching. For one thing, poaching
is hard to regulate and law enforcement is susceptible to bribery,
making poaching an easy crime. As one can see, causes of
poaching are done for many reasons, such as food, religion,
money, and even lack of enforcement. The many causes of
poaching create negative effects, mainly in the environment and
economy.

You have learned that if fishing and hunting are both

properly regulated, negative effects to the environment
Application: can be avoided. Give at least (1) recommendation of what
programs can be implemented to control fishing and
hunting activities.

Fishing:

One thing I can recommend to avoid fishing activities is being a

youth we will make a trend or law to limit fishing activities and we will
also make orientations to people who live this way being a fishermen
because we cannot take away their food sources but they must know
what is not and can be done so we can continue the damaging of our
environment.

Hunting:
What we do to limit hunting activities is make some rules and
those who do not follow should be punished or fined. Through this we
can see the improvement of giving law to the hunters. It can only be
avoided if we are being responsible for the nature and take care and not
to damage our environment.
LESSON 3 Module 1
URBAN INDUSTRY

List at least 3 things you can describe in each of the

Activity: following pictures. Write them on the spaces provided.

 The increasing number of people that live in urban

areas.
 A process whereby populations move from rural to
urban areas, enabling cities and towns areas.
 Urbanization are able to provide many variety vehicles.

 Industrialization is the process by which an economy is

transformed from primarily agricultural to one based on the
manufacturing of goods.
 The source of technology.
 The process of applying mechanical, chemical, and electrical
sciences to recognize production with inanimate sources of energy.
Based on what you’ve mentioned above. Identify at
Analysis:
least advantage and 1 disadvantage of each of those to
the environment and explain why.

Advantage:
(A) Urban areas are able to provide a variety of services these might
included a public transportation or even private transportation.

(B) The growth of industries has resulted in large scale production of

goods which are available to the consumer at much cheaper
rates.

Disadvantage:
(A) And because of that we have a lot of public or private vehicles
we can experience long traffic and cause of being late in the work
or school.

(B) The immediate result is in the gradual disappearance of many

natural resources, the pollution of land, water and air.

Now, it’s time you apply the concept you have learned.
Application: Analyze the pictures below. Describe each one of them
and extract the common message those images are telling
you.

(A) (B)

(A)
About this
picture it shows
the between of
tress and
buildings and the earth cracks between of them it means if we don’t
take care and not be balanced it can be ruin our world. For example in
the forest they cut down trees to build various industries so it has a big
impact on our environment as well as our world so we have to do the
limitation because now we are running out of trees in the mountains
and forest or many of the buildings are being built.

(B)
It shows the different faces of the earth in below it shows the many
effects of various activities on the environment many activities that are
harmful to the environment and it can destroy our earth. For example
the factory which is one of the harmful to the environment as well as
the world. And in above it shows all the good side that the world has.
There are no factories, no dirty water, and they can provide a good
power supply and we can smell good/fresh air.

(C)
This is a wakeup call for everyone that we have a one only world or
earth and if we do not take care of it, it may have a bad impact to our
world. We need to take care and be responsible for the things that
matter about the environment. There are many ways to do that we can
help the environment, simply of putting waste in the right trash can
thus prevent the destruction of the environment and the world. We
save our Earth.

Mention activities that pertains to the uses of water. Use
Activity: the designated space below.

 Bathing
 Drinking
 Cooking
 Farming
 Industry
 Generating Electricity
 Recreation
 Livestock water

A. Provide the possible hydrological impact of human

Application: activities to the environment. Use the designated
column for your answers.

Human activities Hydrological Impacts in the Environment

1.Drilling of wells  The water table can be lowered
beyond the reach of existing wells
 Wetland can dry up
 The loss of hydraulic pressure can
cause collapse of the ground and
formation of craters making
agricultural use impossible
 Seawater intrusion may occur if the
well is located in coastal areas.

2. Mass construction of house etc. The environmental impact of construction

can also affect wildlife. Roads in rainforests
can cut off migration routes. Dams can divert
water from freshwater habitats. Spills from
oil platforms can kill marine organisms and
leave the shoreline polluted.
3. Urbanization of area completed Urban populations interact with their
by the addition of more buildings. environment. Urban people change their
environment through their consumption of
food, energy, water, and land. And in turn,
the polluted urban environment affects the
health and quality of life of the urban
population.
4. Drilling of deeper, large- Well water typically contains more minerals
capacity industrial wells in solution than surface water and may
require treatment before being potable. Soil
salination can occur as the water table falls
and the surrounding soil begins to dry out.
Another environmental problem is the
potential for methane to seep into the water.
5. Increased use of water for air
conditioning.
The use of air conditioning is increasing
pollution in the environment by releasing
poisonous gases into the environment. And it
has a negative impact on the environment as
they are part of the greenhouse gases that
trap heat and lead to depletion of the ozone
layer. In addition it may affect to the health
especially to those that are absolutely reliant
on it.

B. Give at least 5-sentences descriptions on how human hydrologic

activities decrease long term water security and availability.

One of the most serious threats to water resources is the

degradation of ecosystems, which often takes place through changes to
landscapes such as the clearance of forests, the conversion of natural
landscapes to farmland, the growth of cities, the building of roads, and
surface mining. Each type of change to a landscape will have its own
specific impact, usually directly on natural ecosystems and directly or
indirectly on water resources. Our water resources face a host of
serious threats, all of which are caused primarily by human activity.
Although it is difficult to integrate the intricacies of ecosystems into
traditional and more hydro logically based water assessment and
management processes, this approach is being strongly advocated in
some sectors and scientific domains. Humans have long used air, land
and water resources as ‘sinks’ into which we dispose of the wastes we
generate. These disposal practices leave most wastes inadequately
treated, thereby causing pollution.
Module 1
LESSON 5
ENERGY AND TRANSPORTATION

Activity: This activity will need your investigation skills.

Procedure:
1. Create a list of what you ate yesterday. Include the type of foods and
the amount of each type of food that you intake.
Name of food items:
2 cups of Rice
2 Chicken breast & leg
2 bananas

2. Search for a daily dietary meal of a football player

Name of food items:
Fish
Lean beef
Whole Wheat bread
Avocados toast
Oatmeal
Eggs

3. Search for a daily dietary meal of a body builder who is competing for
Mr. Universe.
Name of food items:
Rice flakes Meat
10 egg white Cereals and banana
4. Convert the total individual food intake into the total calorie count.
You can refer from the table below.

Name of food item Calories contents (Kcal/Kg)

Rice 304
Fish 240
Fruit 630
Meat 558
Oatmeal 68
Eggs 325

5. Compare the three calorie intake.

The calories refer to the energy people get from the food and
drink they consume, and the energy they use in physical activity. And
they have a different calories intake that are consume.

6. Explain the relationship of calorie intake and the nature of work of

each individual.

TOTAL CALORIE INTAKE NATURE OF WORK

1. ME 700 STUDENTS

2. FOOTBALL PLAYER 1800 FOTBALL

3. BODY BUILDER 3825 MR. UNIVERSE

ANALYSIS: After the completion of the activity, answer

the following questions:
1. What is the significance of the nature of work to the
total calorie intake?

The nutrient demand and energy expenditure are little high as

compare to Non workers. Therefore, adequate nutrient and energy intake
of manufacturing workers is of paramount importance. The
interrelationship of physical activity, food intake and extremes of
environmental temperature are important considerations influencing
nutritional intake and physical performance in various activities of
workers. Calories are essential for human health. The key is consuming
the right amount. Everyone requires different amounts of energy each
day, depending on age, sex, size, and activity level.

2. How does this activity depict the country’s use of

energy?

The calorie is a unit of energy widely used in nutrition. Many in

our country’s using this energy because this is relatable in our health and
everyone want to be healthy. The achieved energy imbalance is
generally lower than prescribed energy expenditure from exercise.

APPLICATION:
Create a diagram that illustrates the relationship
between population, energy consumption, use of
transportation and environment.
Make a brief and concrete explanation of your diagram.
Suggest a practical way to mitigate the negative impact
of energy use and transportation.
