3. Koala
Koala is originally from some areas in Australia that can be found in Queensland, New
South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. Koala is an herbivore animal that typically
inhabits in eucalypt woodlands as the leaves of that tree is the main food for koala.
Koala is a very cute looking animal and it makes anybody wants to touch and hug it as
a doll.
In fact, Koala is not as cute as its looks. At the nature, Koala is afraid of human and
when it is approached or touched, it will defence itself by using its sharp claws.
In a day, koala can eat around 400 grams of eucalypt leaves which are eaten spread
over four to six feeding times. Because the leaves of the eucalypt have high water
content, thus koala does not much water to drink.
Sometimes koala does not drink at all and only large size male koala still needs
additional water which it gets from the ground or any other water sources near it. Koala
spends most of its time by sleeping. In a day, koala sleeps around 20 hours and the
rest 4 hours are spent for movement activity especially for eating.
Because koala is a nocturnal animal, its movement can be observed at the night where
it moves from one to another branches or trees of eucalypt.
Koala is asocial animal which prefers to live solitary and only use 15 minutes of time to
meet another koala except for female koala and its baby.
Koala meets the other one for some specific purpose like mating or grabbing another
territory.
Over all, koala may live from 15 to 18 years in the wild.
