English Teaching Forum is a quarterly journal published by the U.S. Department of State for teachers of

WEBINARS
American English Live: Teacher Development Series
The AE Live Series 9 is on every other Wednesdays from September 23-December 2, 2020. The series is
composed of six live sessions. Each session is 60 minutes and is held at 8:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. ET from
Washington, D.C. (check http://timeanddate.com for the local time in your region). Participants may join the live
sessions at www.Facebook.com/AmericanEnglishforEducators or via Zoom on the designated schedule. Presenters
are American English teaching specialists.
Anyone is welcome to attend the live webinar series; however, to receive email reminders registration is
required. Registration link for the AE Live Series 9: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2020WS9. For
questions related to webinars, participants can email [email protected].
The six online seminars of the series cover a variety of topics intended for teachers of English or future teachers of
English around the world. At the end of each event, participants will have the opportunity to earn a digital badge that
verifies their participation. Viewing group hosts, Public Affairs Offices, and Regional English Language Offices
also have the option to issue e-certificates for those who attend four (4) out of six (6) sessions.

American English MOOCs for English Language Learners
These Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) help pre-intermediate, intermediate, and advanced level learners
improve their English skills in five major career fields. Each MOOC is free, self-paced, and five weeks long. For

English for Media Literacy – Learners will develop and practice English language skills related to different
forms of media. Learners will develop critical thinking skills as they read and evaluate different types of

The American English E-Teacher program has been renamed the Online Professional English Network (OPEN). It
offers free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), which are open to an unlimited number of participants. Some

English for Journalism, provided by the Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program, open from
April 20, 2020-October 19, 2020 (Enrollment closes on October 9, 2020) COURSE EXTENDED!
About this course: This is designed for non-native English speakers interested in developing
skills needed for a career in modern journalism. Participants will explore print and digital media
while expanding vocabulary and increasing the ability to research and develop local and global
news stories. This is a self-paced course. It offers participants the opportunity to complete the
course on their own schedule. Successful participants will receive a digital badge and certificate.

About this course: This course is designed for non-native English speakers who are interested in
improving their language skills and knowledge of business and entrepreneurship at the same time.
From identifying an opportunity to planning a persuasive pitch, this course will guide participants
step-by-step through the basic elements of starting up a new business. Through case studies, selected
readings, and video lectures, participants will learn how to use market research to identify risks and
opportunities. They will learn how to read and develop a business plan and how to find investors and
financial support. Finally, participants will learn strategies for making a pitch to present their
