Formation of All India Muslim League

The All India Muslim League (AIML) was established on December 30, 1906 in Dhaka as a political party for Muslims in British India. It was formed in response to the rise of Hindu nationalism and the failure of Muslims to gain political power, as they did not have a unified political voice. The AIML gave Muslims a platform to convey their political demands and ensure their rights were protected under British rule. It played a key role in the establishment of Pakistan as a separate homeland for Muslims after the end of British colonial rule in 1947.

Formation Of All India Muslim League

Introduction:
The establishment of league is considered a milestone of Muslim politics in India. It marked a
real beginning of true Muslim political struggle in 20th century. It paved way and played a vital
role in spear-heading its final destination i.e Pakistan. It also played a remarkable role in relying
the Muslims around single platform
It was A political party made for muslims. The need of AIML in subcontinent could be analyzed
by that Muslims did not have any forum to represent themselves and to fight for their rights
and tro convey their concerns to british rule. In 1885 AH hayyum made Indian National
Congress though it was made for all the people of subcontinent and would not have any
discrimination of hindus and muslims but within the passage of time Hindus began to dominate
Indian National Congress then Muslims realized that they need their own political party to solve
their problems and to sent their delegates to british rule. On 30 dec 1906 Muslims decided to
make their political party and AIML played a great role in the establishment of Muslim politics
which could not be denied and this party didn’t step back until it reached its goal of the
establishment of Pakistan. It also played a great role even after the establishment of Pakistan.
Nehru said that one day Pakistan will request India to take them again and the separation was
done in such a way that it made sure Pakistan faces a lot of problem and remain weak so that
hindus could succeed in their agenda of merging countries again. AIML worked for the Muslim
rights in india as well as it continued it struggle for Muslim rule in india and then in Pakistan

Death Of Sir Syed

Sir Syed opposed Indian National Congress because it only worked for the rights of hindus and
neglected Muslims. Sir syed saw that Muslims were intellectually and educationally weak than
Hindus so they refrained Muslims from Politics until Muslims learnt the agendas of hindus and
become intellectually strong to learn new things happening in India at that time such as
language innovation. But when he saw Muslims were not refraining from politics he provided
Muslims different forums for their political representation such as British Indian Association,
Mohammedan Educational Conference. These forums that were at frontline for Muslims
Freedom could not be able to play their effective role after the death of sir Syed and his son
could not be able to run it the way sir syed did. With the death of Sir syed these forums also
finished. Death of Sir Syed left an impact on Muslims.

Rise Of Hindu Nationalism

Lala Lajpat Raye, Baal Ganga dar dilat and Tripat Chandra Laal they made different agendas for
the rise of hindu nationalism. Baal Gnga Dar Dilat wrote different articles such as Shivajee raj in
which he shows their agendas against Muslims. They started Ganpati festival to show how mch
strong they are. Through all these things hindu natiomalism rises. Muslims didn’t want that
because if hindu nationalism increases they would dominate muslims customs and their
survival become difficult.

Elections of 1892
This election changed the whole scenario because didn’t get any seats and Hindu rule started
and it shocked the Muslims. They realized that if Hindus continued rising they never let Muslims
rise and if they didn’t win election and come to rule they can’t survived. So they realized that it
is very necessary to win election and for this purpose they needed a political party

Resurgence Of Urdu Hindi Controversy

In 1857 Urdu Hindi controversary arose in which sir syed played a great role. In 1900 Urdu Hindi
controversary emerged in which Up governer make hindi official language and Muslims had to
realized that how Hindus were destroying us and diminishing their identity and realized the
need of forum to become strong

Anti-Muslim Agitation against partition of Bengal

The partition of Bengal by the British Government in 1905 greatly embittered the relations
between Hindus and Muslims. The partition ensured a number of political benefits for the
Muslims but Hindus in a hostile and violent manner. This violent protest of Hindus convinced
the educated Muslims that they could redeemed only if they created their own political force
and their own leadership Hindus made several agendas to finish the partition and it happened
in 1911 but Muslims had already established AIML and it didn’t cause much problem as it could
before 1911

Role of Muslim press

The press also played an important role such as Ali Garh Gazette to spread political awareness.
The newspaper continued such coloumns and articles that provoked the Muslims to make
themselves politically stable

Coming of liberal party to power (1905)

Liberal party came to rule after elections in England. They appointed lord Minto as viceroy and
Lord Marley as secretary of State. Lord Minto has a very constitutional mind and it proved to be
a very plus point for Muslims

Morley’s budget Speech (1906)

In it they talked about how Muslims were made financially destroyed, Minto-Marley reform act
became beneficial for Muslims because in it concept of two electorataes was discussed and
when Muslims saw a chance to stabilize themselve they realized the need of proper forum to
convey their demands
Shimla Deputation:
Apparently it seemed that Muslim rights demands were accepted by the Lord Minto in Simla
Deputation but it was not sure that either they act on it or not. So there is a need of political
party to make their demands strong
These are the factors that leads towards the establishment of political party

Establishment of AIML:
Mohsin-ul-mulk, Sir Agha Khan, Nawab Salim Ullah Khan showed intention of making a political
party. Syed Ameer Ali stressed the need for the establishment of a separate political party. On
30th December 1906 AIMEC session was head and after the session was a separate meeting was
held by delegates. Some 3000 Muslim delegates met under the president ship of Nwab Waqar-
ul-Mulk and decided to establish AIML. The resolution for the establishment of AIML was
moved by Nawab Salim Ullah Khan, seconded by Hakeem Ajmal and supported by dozens of
delegates
A lot of people started realizing that we need a political party and on 30 Dec 1906 all the
necessary things were completed and AIML foundation was laid

Objective

To bring about a better understanding between Muslim and other communities.
It was also necessary for Muslims to never make british angry at any cost because British

rage it is necessary to show them Muslims are loyal to them

communities like Sikhs and Hindus
