Gypsy Queen Shawl
by
Pippin Poppycock
The Gypsy Queen Shawl is the first pattern in my Pride of the Gypsies collection.
I wanted something big, something to wrap around in on those warm summer nights while sitting barefoot on
the grass staring up at the night sky watching the stars float past.
Yarn: Stylecraft Classique Cotton 4ply – I used 10 ball in white. However, you may want to have a few extra. If
you want to be creative and use more than one color, you can plan your colorway using the coloring picture at
the end of the pattern. I made 13 squares from each ball and I had a few yards left, which I saved for the fringe.
Hook: 3.25mm

It is recommend blocking your cotton shawl. Lay your shawl out on a blocking mat. Starting with the bottom
corner and working your way out and up. Stretch your motifs and pin as you go. Once pinned out spray with
water until damp. Let dry overnight.

Fringe
The fringe is made with two 12” (30cm) strands. (I found it easier to cut multiples by wrapping yarn around a
12” cardboard square and cutting at both ends).
Fold two strands in half.
Insert your hook through the first sc from behind to front.
Pull the center of the strands through st.
Tuck tail ends through the loop and pull.
Skip next sc and repeat.
You should have a fringe in every other st. I found it quicker to pull strands through multiple stitches and then
go back and pull tail end through. Assembly line style,.
Congratulation your Gypsy Queen Shawl is complete
