STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Ever since I started to think on my own, the popular quote, "What you have learned is a
mere handful, What you haven't is like the world in its size" by a Tamil Poet Avvaiyar
has inspired me to learn new things and also reflected in my career to excel in scholastic
and Non-scholastic activities. Having been brought up in a small town, I did my schooling at
XXXXX.  For every kid, their father is the best teacher, my father taught me about
construction activities when he built his dream house, where I was drawn to the various
materials involved in construction and it invoked my fascination towards the construction
industry and eventually inspired me to pursue my Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering.

My journey officially started from a four-year Bachelor of Civil Engineering program at
XXXX which helped me to lay a strong foundation for my professional education as I got
great exposure to various elements of Engineering and management as well. I was spurred
on to do more and my final year project was on the Design of G+3 hospital building, through
which I gained good knowledge about the design and calculation of materials required for
construction. This project provoked my zest to learn more about designing. So after
completing my Bachelor’s I joined a short course in “Professional in Building Design” in
which I took training on software like StaadPRO, ANSYS for analyzing, and design of the
structure.

My final year project in Bachelor’s and the design software propelled me to pursue the two-
year Master's program in Structural Engineering which helped me to learn in-depth
analytical aspects of building design. During the tenure of the program, I worked on a thesis
“Effect of natural Fibres in brick” to research the use of natural fibers in bricks to increase its
strength. My initial career kick-started as a Structural Design Engineer in XXXX, where I
had 1.5years of experience in designing various steel buildings like warehouses, canopies,
commercial Buildings, Malls, etc.

To gain challenging experience, I moved to the XXXX from India to join as a Design
Engineer in XXXX. After the successful completion of a project, I got an opportunity to work
as a Structural Engineer in XXXX, which is a Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete Cladding
Company. I grasped the offer to learn new things on a challenging project of GRC cladding
for the G+35 story Building which the company is working for.

Thereafter, I was working as a XXXXX in XXXX since December 2017 which is a steel
company. So far, I have designed and estimated about 5000 Metric tons of several steel
projects. I also worked on several steel buildings for the extension of Dubai Outlet Mall which
is one of the biggest malls in UAE. As it is a big project our company Project Manager
couldn’t handle it along with other projects. So along with the design, I got the opportunity to
manage that project. Unfortunately, my current skills are not enough to handle such a huge
project and my Engineering Manager handled the project thereon.

This made me look for a course that specializes in Steel Management and co-ordination of
projects as per Industry Standards in Western countries and also I couldn’t find a steel
specialized program neither in India nor in the country where I am staying. Fortunately, I
found the program “Steel Management and Detailing” from Conestoga College in Canada.
This program is best suited as it is designed to know not only Management and also
complete knowledge about detailing supply, and Fabrication of Steel which I have never
worked or learned before. The program also has courses like Building Information Modelling
and construction documents such as handing over procedures which is an added
advantage. This program is affiliated with the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction.
After acquiring the best education in Canada, I intend to come back to India. My parents are
government employees in India. My wife and daughter are also in India as they don’t want to
move from my home country. As we are well settled and after 2 years my parents are retiring
and will get a huge amount of money (Provident Fund) from the government for their 30
years of work experience and with that money, I have decided to start my steel construction
firm, so that I could live with my wife, daughter, and parents.
