Connected textures:
Connected textures explained:
Traditionally, connected textures are used to add small things to a texturepack. Like having a bit of
grass/sand grow over to the block next to it. But in BetterVanillaBuilding, connected textures are
used to their extreme. When, for example, placing green concrete next to oak planks the blocks will
change to a new block type with are green planks. This adds a whole new building block to the
texturepack that didn’t exist in the game before, and all that without having to replace a single
original Minecraft texture.

Using connected textures can be a bit tricky. For example, only the faces of a block that are adjacent
to each other will change texture. Meaning that if you place 2 blocks next to each other both ends of
the blocks won’t be affected by the texture change.

There are a lot of building tricks to use when it comes to connected textures. For example,
stairs/slabs and other transparent blocks don’t break the connection between blocks, meaning they
can be used to cover the rough edges without breaking an entire wall of textures.

I advise you to experiment with connected textures. For more inspiration and explanation, we have a
YouTube series called “the joy of building” which goes in depth on connected textures and cool ways
to implement them. A link to the channel is found here:
