Nursing Student's Virtual Reflection

This reflection journal summarizes the student's experience in their virtual clinical rotation. Initially, the student found it difficult to adjust to the virtual routine and felt unsure of what to do. However, by the fifth rotation the student felt more confident in preparing documentation, providing nursing care, and communicating with virtual patients. The student demonstrated care and compassion, and felt their ability to effectively communicate increased. They learned to plan and implement interventions to improve patient health and felt the experience provided a glimpse into being a nurse that they can apply to future patients.

Initially, in those first week of our virtual duty, I found it quite difficult adjusting to
the routine and set up and could not believe how hard everything was. At first, it was a
strange and surreal experience when I clearly did not know what I was doing on how to cope
up with a virtual clinical experience.
I am now on my fifth rotation of our virtual duty this semester. Looking back on my
experience for the past few weeks, I realized what I achieve already. If I compare the time I
spent before having virtual duty, to my most recent one, the difference is plainly obvious. I
knew the routine, how to prepare things, for the chartings up to endorsement virtually, the
nursing care required for patients among the countless other tasks and duties that are done on
a day-to-day basis. My confidence in the nursing care I was assisting in delivering to these
patients had improved extensively. I now felt that I was actively participating in the care of
the patients.
I have had multiple opportunities to demonstrate care and compassion in the virtual
clinical setting this semester.
I feel as though I was able to grow in my ability to communicate effectively with my
virtual patients. I felt both an increase in my confidence and knowledge by the end of this
rotation. I am becoming noticeably more and more prepared to carry out teaching, orders,
endorsements, requests.
I have learned a lot during our virtual rotation, it helped me to plan and implement
interventions to improve the quality of health for patients. This rotation meant a lot to me
both professionally and personally. Professionally in a way that I feel that I got a real glimpse
into my own patient and I can use it as my experience virtually that I gleaned from them and
apply it to the patients in the near future. Personally, by this way I have learned how to be
more open.
