Create an Alert Category in the Central Alert Server
In order to broadcast via the central alert framework of the SAP
NetWeaver AS you have to create an Alert Category in the Central
Alert Server
Use transaction
code
ALRTCATDEF
to access the
maintenance.
Enter a
description and
maintain the
basic properties
for the Alert
Category.

Maintain Texts for the Alert message
Create the Message title and a Message text. You can
include text variables that you set-up in the
Broadcaster as well as from the Alert Framework
© SAP AG 2005, Title of Presentation, Speaker Name /Version 1 31
Add Optional Subsequent Activities
Here you can enter a text
for a subsequent activity.
Here you can enter a URL
which should be checked
by the recipient in order
to react to the alert.
© SAP AG 2005, Title of Presentation, Speaker Name /Version 1 32
Assign the Alert to End-Users
You have to assign the alert to end-users. The central alert framework
of SAP WebAS provides you with three options:
Fixed Recipients: Here you can enter the names of recipients who
should get the alert.
Recipients Via User Roles: Here user roles can be entered – all
users assigned to the roles will get the alert.
Subscription Authorization: Here you can enter user roles as well
– all users assigned to these roles will have the option to subscribe
for the alert later.

Configuring the UWL – Alert Framework Connection
You can define connections to system as alert providers to the UWL
Via user mapping the UWL knows which alert containers a user is
assigned to (either via the users or ist roles).
Depending on the user the UWL can determine and display the
user‘s alerts from different connected systems

Value Set
Value Set
The Broadcaster enables you to fill precalculated value set variables with values
for characteristic values in the background
The precalculated value sets are available as variable values in BEx queries
Typical use cases:
analyzing target groups since you can specify a fixed value
when complex selections are involved such as with a Top n inquiry, used to
improve query performance
© SAP AG 2005, Title of Presentation, Speaker Name /Version 1 43
Value Set
Value Set
After you have defined the Broadcaster setting, you can schedule it
you can use the precalculated value set in a value set characteristic variable.
The value of this variable is the value set ID created in the Broadcaster setting
The variable can be ready for input and you can select different value sets in the
variable screen at the query runtime.

Information Broadcasting & Reporting Agent
The replacement of the 3.x Reporting Agent by Information
Broadcasting in 7.0
The functions of the Reporting Agent are replaced by the Information
Broadcaster
Old Reporting Agent scenarios still run in 7.0 based on the Reporting
Agent
The Reporting Agent is not developed any further. It is removed from the
7.0 Data Warehousing Workbench. You can now only reach the
Reporting Agent using transaction code REPORTING_AGENT.
A migration of Reporting Agent settings and Reporting Agent packages
by broadcast settings is not planned.
SAP recommends covering Reporting Agent scenarios using Information
Broadcasting.

BEx runtime
BEx Information Broadcasting
In 7.0 the BEx Broadcaster is shipped in an 3.x version and in a 7.0
version
The 3.x version is started from the 3.x BEx tools and/or the context
menu of Web Applications running on the old runtime
The 7.0 version is started from 7.0 BEx tools and/or context menu
of Web Applications running on the new runtime
Existing BW 3.x broadcasting settings can still be maintained and
processed with the 3.x version of the Broadcaster
If you use the new Broadcaster,
Æ you can build settings on all queries in the system but you have to
build them from scratch. You cannot use already existing 3.x
broadcasting settings for queries
Æ You can build settings on all Web Applications that were built or
converted with the 7.0 WAD. You cannot build settings on old Web
Applications.
Æ BW 3.x broadcasting settings for workbooks can be used as
before. There are no changes.
