Written Activity No. 1-Research

This document contains a student's written activity responses on research. It defines research as the acquisition of new knowledge or use of existing knowledge in a new way to generate new ideas. It discusses that research involves searching for evidence and facts to obtain truth, and analyzing evidence to connect to the study topic. It also briefly discusses the two ways of conducting scientific research: inductive research starts with observation to form a theory, while deductive research starts with a theory to test hypotheses. Finally, it elaborates on the importance of research in solving problems and driving progress through gaining knowledge.

Written Activity No. 1 in Research

I. Answer the following to at most five (5) sentences. (3 points each)
1. Define Research
Research is defined as the acquisition of new knowledge and/or the use of
existing knowledge in a new and different way so as to generate new concepts,
methods, and ideas. This could include analysis and synthesis of previous research to be
able to acquire possible new discoveries.

2. Discuss the nature of Research

When we talk about research, we intend to search evidences and factual information for
us to obtain the truth in our study. When we already have these evidences, we describe and
analyse our evidences to be able to connect our evidences to our study. Research is not just a
word we use to catch people’s attention. It is governed by those who have the requisite
proficiency or expertise.

3. Discuss briefly the two ways of conducting a Scientific Research:

a. Inductive Research
When there is little to no existing literature on a topic, it is common to
perform inductive research because there is no theory to test. Inductive research
aims to formulate a theory. The inductive approach consists of three stages: it
begins with observation and then observing the pattern of events and data until
certain theory arise. This kind of approach begins from specific to general.

b. Deductive Research
When conducting deductive research, we always start with a theory (the
result of inductive research). Reasoning deductively means testing this theory.
By doing so, deductive research approach consist of four stages: start with an
existing theory, formulate hypothesis based on the existing theory, collect data
to test the hypothesis, and analyse the results. If there is no theory yet, we
cannot conduct deductive research.
4. Elaborate the importance of Research in our daily lives
Research is a catalyst for solving the world’s most pressing issues, the
complexity of which evolves over time. The entire wealth of research findings
throughout history has led us to this very point in civilisation, which brings us to
the reason why research matters. Research empowers us with knowledge and
helps us drive progress forward. Through research, we were able to understand
almost everything that is happening around us and make us invent and develop a
lot of things which significantly helping us today.
