Locate The Centroid of Given Figures.: Tutorial Sheet 3 Unit 3

This tutorial sheet provides exercises on calculating physical properties of geometric shapes and composite structures, including: 1. Locating the centroid and center of gravity of various figures. 2. Determining moments of inertia with respect to different axes for various shaded areas and composite sections. 3. Calculating polar moments of inertia for different areas. The exercises involve applying formulas to calculate physical properties like moment of inertia, radius of gyration, and centroid locations for combinations of basic shapes shown in the figures provided.

8. The strength of a W14 X 38 rolled-steel beam is increased by attaching 9 X ¾ in. plate to
its upper flange as shown in figure 6.Determine the moment of inertia and the radius of
gyration of the composite section with respect to an axis which is parallel to the plate
and passes through the centroid C of the section.
