Chapter 4 - Business Process Modelling & Simulation

1. Define modelling tools

- Business process modeling in business process management and systems engineering is the activity
of representing processes of an enterprise, so that the current process may be analyzed, improved, and
automated.

2. Give the seven Different Categories to Evaluate BPM tools

1. Tool capabilities, including a rough indication of modelling, simulation and analysis capabilities

2. Tool hardware and and software, including the tyoe of platform, languages, ang external links.

3. Tools documentation, cobering the availability of several guides, online - help and information about
the learning

4. User features: amongst other user friendliness, level of expertise required and existence of a graphical
user

5. Modelling capabilities, such as identification of different roles, model integrity analysis, model
flexibility and level of detail.

6. Simulation capabilities, summarising the nature of simulation (discrete vs. continuous), handling of
time and cost aspects and statistical distribution

7. Output analysis capabilities such as output analysi and BPR expertise

It is said that thousands of organizations are most likely to use this criteria to achieve excellence in
performance. By relying on the criteria, businesses are steps closer to attaining higher levels of
productivity and profitability, better employee relations, improved market share and customer loyalty

3. Explain th Three Categories of Software Tools.

Business Process Modelling Tools - are developed to describe and analyze business process. The tools
supports the process to establish to control flow of business processes, the resources roles involved,
documents being used and it’s document instructions for the execution of steps in the business process.

Business Process Management - Tools systems can be seen as successor of Work-Flow-Management

(WFM) systems. It also defined as supporting business processes using methods, techniques, and
software to design, enact, control and analyze operational process involving humans, organizations,
applications, documents, and other sources of information.

General Purpose Simulation Tools - may be tailored toward a specific domain, such as logistics, (for
example Dynamics) or SPEEDES in the military domain. We considered simulation tools that are not
tailored towards a particular domain and we evaluate their suitability for the domain of business
process.
