1. Project charter
► The project charter is a text
document that should
contain the following:
► Project name
► Project manager or contact
person
► General aims of the project
► Problem description
► Approach
► Key results
► Schedule
► Resource estimates
► Roles and responsibilities
of project memebers

2. Work breakdown structure (WBS)
► First set up summary tasks and milestones
► Then divide summary tasks into lowest level work packages
► For a clear and workable WBS, follow these guidelines: :
► Each task should represent a distinct output towards accomplishing the
project goal
► Lowest level work packages should not exceed 10 working days or 2
working weeks

3. Scheduling and planning resources
► Present the project schedule either as a Gantt-chart
► Or as a network diagram

► Model major dependencies between tasks and milestones
using connectors
► Assign resources to each lowest level work package (include
yourself as a project manager or contributor)
► Use the following guideline when assigning resources:
► Single tasts should not use up more than 50% of the capacity of individual

► Find the critical path:
► The critical path is the sequence of dependent steps that
determine the minimum time needed to carry out the project
► View -> More views ->Detail Gantt -> Apply

4. Project costs and budgeting
► Detremine the type for each resource
► Use all three types (work, material, cost)
► View -> Resource sheet
► Include at least one fixed cost
► Assign wages (both regular and overtime) for all human resources, even if it
doesn't fit your chosen project

► Print the project's budget
► View -> Reports -> Cost reports -> Budget

► Allowing for work outside office hours

► If the project is large, assign printing borders using File -> Print
