Graph Practice: Independent Variable and The Dependent Variable

1) The document provides instructions on how to create line graphs and bar graphs using data from examples. It describes key terms like independent variable, dependent variable, and how to label axes. 2) It includes 3 examples of datasets with the time or number listed alongside another variable like distance, temperature, or number of cars. Learners are asked to identify which type of graph to create and plot the points. 3) The goal is to practice creating graphs that show relationships between 2 variables as one increases or decreases over time. Descriptions of the trends in each example are also requested.

Skills D-E C A*-B

Drawing I can plot a graph when I can chose the axes, the type of graph and I can deal with awkward numbers to best
graphs given axes. best fit line. display data.

TASK:
1. Decide which type of graph to do-bar or line.
2. Label your axes and add a scale.
3. Carefully plot your points and, if a line graph, draw a line of best fit.
4. Write a simple conclusion describing the relationship between the
independent variable and the dependent variable.
5. Remember-practice makes perfect!

Glossary:
 Independent variable-the one you are changing. In the first column of the table and goes on
the bottom x-axis
 Dependent variable-the results you are measuring. Goes on the vertical y-axis.
 Bar graph-to display categoric variables, like hair colour, name, type of animal
 Line graph-to display continuous data (data which can be any number)
