LESSON 4a
PLANT CELL
SCORE:_____/65
Name: Lady Precious B. Empedrad Section: Faraday
Activity 1
A. Answer the riddle below.
What is present in a CALL but not in a BALL;
It is present in a WELL but not in a WALL;
And mostly it is seen twice in ALL.
Answer: Cell
B. Draw a “sunny side up” egg inside the box and compare it to a cell. Can you tell its
similarities? Label what represents the cell membrane, nucleus and cytoplasm. (5pts)
The similarities of cell towards sunny side up is their structures. Both of
them has the same of organization together.
Why is cell considered as the basic structural and functional unit of life? (3pts)
Because cell is our most essential body forming unit, each organ in our body is all
made up of cells. Cells are also essential for performing various life process that is
required for sustaining life. Furthermore, cells provide form and structure,
process nutrients and convert it into useable energy.
Activity 2: Word Hunt
Directions: Consider the numbers corresponding to the letters in the alphabet. Form a word out
of the given number in sequence. The words are the different organelles. Give a description of
the organelle.

A. The table enumerate the parts of the cell that are present or absent in plant and animal cells.
Structure Cell A Cell B
Cell wall Absent Present
Plasma Membrane Present Present
Chloroplast Absent Present
Centrioles Present Absent
Nucleus Present Present
Question: Can you identify a plant cell? How about an animal cell?
Plant Cell______________ Animal cell ______________
Plant cells are eukaryotic cells that vary in An animal cell is a type of eukaryotic
several fundamental factors from other cell that lacks a cell wall and has a
eukaryotic organisms. true, membrane bound nucleus along
with other cellular organelles.
B. You are asked to identify an unknown slide. Which of the following characteristics could help
you recognize that it is a plant cell?
presence of centrioles
absence of cell wall
rigid shape
presence of chloroplast
Answer: Presence of chloroplast
Activity 3: Cell Analogy
Directions: Fill in the blanks below with the specific cell organelle that works for its specific
function.
Imagine you are inside the factory. The factory itself is the 1.) Cell. The walls of
the factory are the 2.) Cell membrane. It guards to whoever comes in and out of the factory.
Inside the factory there is a headquarters room. The headquarters’ room represent the 3). Nucleus.
It controls all the movements happening inside the factory and tells how the factory should
operate. The workers in the factory represents the 4). Ribosomes. These workers translate the
information given from the headquarters room. The factory cannot operate without energy. The
power supply room represents the 5.) Mitochondria. It provides energy for the factory to continue
to operate. The packaging room in the factory represents the 6.) Golgi Bodies. Inside this room,
the products of the factory are being sorted out and packaged ready to be delivered to different
locations. The hallway in the factory represents the 7.) Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum. This
hallway provides a pathway for the workers to transport the products to other rooms in the factory.
The storage room or stock room represents the 8). Vacuoles. In here, the products of the factory
are being kept. The hallway with workers represents the 9.) Rough ER. This hallway that is filled
with workers is the closest to the headquarters’ room. In this hallway, the cell products are also
produced. The space inside the factory where all the rooms are found represents the 10.)
Cytoplasm.
Activity 4: Name Game
I. An organelle is given to you and you are going to describe it in one word based on its
function or description. The first one is done as an example.
Mitochondria - Energetic mitochondria
1. Cell wall - Layer
2. Cell membrane - Boundary
3. Chloroplast - Photosynthesis
4. Vacuoles - Storage
5. Cytoplasm - Jelly-like
II. FACT OR BLUFF. Write FACT if the statement is correct and BLUFF if the statement
is wrong.
1. Plant cell has a single membrane. FACT
2. Vacuoles are storage of food only. BLUFF
3. All cells have cell wall. BLUFF
4. Vacuoles in plant cell is bigger than in animal cell. FACT
5. The rectangular shape of the plant cell is because of the presence of cell wall. FACT
III - Directions: Label the following parts of the plant cell. Choose from the words inside the box.
