 From the above tables we notice that:

 Most of the Egyptian import of tuna from


Thailand and few percent from the other
countries such as Indonesia – Vietnam -
Spain – Italy – China

Egypt not export Tuna canned, only export few


quantity to Sudan and as re – export because
Egypt has no factories or local industries of
producing canned seafood at all but it has some
factories of producing some preserved
vegetables, meat products, canned juices, milk,
potatoes, honey, salt fish

Market Condition

There is no any market condition for buying or


selling tuna canned but you can find in the
whole and retail market, upper or lower market
because tuna is a famous food now and the
consumer can find it everywhere such as
hypermarket, big & small supermarket, small
grocery shops near your house. So it’s easy to
find and buy and easy to cook in few minutes.
Egypt has many Hypermarkets such as
Carrefour (many branches), Hyper one 4
branches), Spinyes,. Also big supermarkets like
Alfa Market (5 branches), Metro (25 branches),
Ragab Sons (7 branches), Khair Zaman (45
branches), Kazion, BIM and a lot of small
grocery shops in everywhere.

 Most of Egyptian consumer like


to eat tuna with bread and now
the Egyptian market has a lot of
demand for Tuna canned because
its popular food with reasonable
price for the majority of the
people because they consider
Tuna as a source of meat
proteins.

the importer distribute the products as follows:


 The importer distribute by his staff directly to the hypermarkets,
supermarkets, small shops, Restaurants, Hotels.
 The importers sell to the wholesalers then wholesalers sell to the
retailers (retailers such as supermarkets and small shops then to
the consumer).

Custom Duty

The custom tariff of tuna canned is only 5%

The Egyptian market full of by many brand names of tuna canned like Sunshine,
Bostany, Americana, Heinz, Avanty, Khushala…etc.
Import Procedures & Regulation

First the Importer must get pre-approval


(Permission) from the Ministry of Agriculture
and Land Reclamation, Quarantine
Department according to the Pro-Forma
Invoice then he can start the import process.

The following documents must be


presented to the customs office in order for
a shipment to be released:

1. Bill of Lading or Letter of Guarantee


(L/G)
2. Commercial Invoice countersigned by
the Chamber of Commerce and
notarized by the Egyptian Embassy or
Consulate in the country of origin
3. Packing Lists
4. Insurance Policy
5. Certificate of Origin countersigned by
the Chamber of Commerce and
notarized by the Egyptian Embassy or
Consulate in the country of origin
6. Import/Export Permit of the importer
7. Health Certificate

Tests and analyses are conducted on all


imported food products upon arrival at
ports. Analyses are conducted in accordance
with the specifications, regulations, and other
instructions.

The following tests are mandatory on all


imported food products upon arrival:
 Laboratory tests and analysis by the
Ministry of Health
 Ministry of Agriculture veterinary
inspection of dairy, fish, meat, and
poultry products
 Labeling and product compliance with
the Egyptian Standards enforced by the
General Organization for Export and
Import Control (GOEIC) of the Ministry
of Industry and Foreign Trade. Since inspection is now centralized in GOEIC,
All tests are conducted in government a committee is formed with representatives
laboratories. Tests and analyses by private from the Ministry of Agriculture, Health, and
laboratories are not permitted or acceptable. GOEIC. Each ministry performs its analysis
on the same product sample and issues its
results to GOEIC. If one of the above
mentioned Ministries rejected the product,
GOEIC will issue the final report of rejecting
the products.

The number of samples withdrawn have been


reduced as a result of centralizing the
inspection process with GOEIC. Importers are
supposed to be notified of all test results
If the rejection is due to unsatisfactory within seven days after samples have been
laboratory tests, the importer has the right to drawn. However, for canned products,
have the product re-tested three times. The mineral water, and frozen products, tests
appeal for reconsideration should be submitted results must be submitted within 14 days
to GOEIC within seven days. after samples have been drawn.

Labeling
requirements

Production and expiration dates must be


clearly shown on the package. Information on
the label cannot be easily erased, scratched or
altered. Information must be written in English  Name and address of manufacturer;
or Arabic . The label must include: -  Brand or trade mark (if applicable);
 Country of origin, type of product;
 Name and address of importer;
 Production and expiration dates;
 Product use instructions (optional);
 Ingredients;
 Storage instructions or storage
temperature;
 Net weight;
 Gross weight and total number of
packages per case or carton;

Importers must present one set of all


import documents to the General
Organization for Export and Import
Control GOEIC.
