Reading Instructions
1 Introduction
This document is an introduction to the EPG CPI library. It describes the types and
structure of the documents in the CPI library, and provides the reader with a quick
guide on how to find important information.
The CPI contains information that enables the customer to understand, operate,
and maintain the EPG. It does not describe any third-party products that might
be part of the network.
The CPI is available through the Ericsson CPI Extranet at https://ebusiness.ericss
on.net/, provided that an e-business portal is available. Contact the local Ericsson
branch if access is impossible. Documents referred to in the CPI library without
active links are not delivered with the CPI library. Such documents are obtainable
by contacting the local Ericsson branch.
1.1 Scope
This document describes the CPI library. For a description of the technical
contents of the CPI library, see EPG Technical Product Description Overview.
1.2 Target Groups
This document is intended for readers of the EPG CPI library.

3 Library Overview
This section provides an overview of the types and structure of the documents
in the CPI library.
3.1 Document Types
The CPI library consists of documents in three main categories, as outlined below:
— Technical descriptions are intended as an introduction to the product, an
interface, or a specific feature. These documents hold important information
for all readers. Typical document types are:
• Description
• Network Impact Report
• Technical Product Description
— Operating Instructions are intended for administrators working with the
EPG. These documents provides detailed instructions for operations on EPG.
Typical document types are:
• Installation Instructions
• Maintenance Instructions
• Operating Instructions
• Upgrade and Update Instructions
— Reference information intended for administrators working with the EPG.
These documents provide detailed information on specific parts of the
product. Typical document types are:

3.2 Library Structure
The documents in the CPI library are structured in folders according to the Ericsson
standard. The contents of each top-level folder, listed below, and their sub-folders
are described in the following sections.

3.2.1 Safety and Environment
The Safety and Environment folder contains information relevant to personal
health and safety in the workplace, product safety, and the external environment.
3.2.2 Library Overview
The Library Overview folder contains descriptions of the CPI library and the
changes that have been made in the library between releases. This folder also
contains the glossary, which defines terms and acronyms used in the library, and a
sub-folder with information on legal aspects of freeware.
3.2.3 Product Overview
The Product Overview folder contains technical descriptions in the following
sub-folders:
— Network Overview
The Network Overview folder provides a high-level technical description of
the packet core network.
— EPG Overview
The EPG Overview folder contains technical descriptions of the EPG product.
This folder also contains descriptions of the EPG architecture, characteristics,
and an overview of operation and maintenance.

— Functions
The Functions folder contains technical descriptions of specific EPG functions
and features.
3.2.4 Planning
The Planning folder contains:
— The Network Impact Report (NIR) for the EPG, which describes the changes
introduced in this product release and their impact on the network.
— The Operational Delta for the EPG, which describes new, modified, and
removed CLI commands, alarms, alerts, counters, and gauges in the EPG.
— The Changes Planned for Future Release, which describes planned changes to
EPG behavior that break backward compatibility in future releases.
3.2.5 Installation
The Installation folder contains operating instructions in the following sub-folders:
— Initial Installation
The Initial Installation folder contains operating instructions for the initial
installation of the EPG.
— Software Upgrade
The Software Upgrade folder contains instructions on how to perform both a
software upgrade and update of the EPG.
3.2.6 Initial Configuration
The Initial Configuration folder contains instructions on how to perform an initial
configuration of the EPG.
3.2.7 Operation and Maintenance
The Operation and Maintenance folder contains instructions on how to configure,
operate, and troubleshoot the EPG, as well as overview documents on node
operations and Operation and Maintenance (O&M). The documents are structured
in the following sub-folders:
— Fault Management
The Fault Management folder contains descriptions of alarm and alert
handling, logging and tracing, health check, troubleshooting, and information
on tools used to facilitate maintenance and troubleshooting.

— Configuration Management
The Configuration Management folder contains descriptions of the
configuration of EPG services, and the platform functions.
— Accounting Management
The Accounting Management folder contains a description of the format
of Charging Data Record (CDR) and Accounting-Request (ACR) files, and
information about offline charging.
— Performance Management
The Performance Management folder contains descriptions of performance
measurement and performance monitoring, including counters and Command
Line Interface (CLI) command descriptions.
— Security Management
The Security Management folder contains instructions on how to configure
traffic separation and other security features.
— Software Management
The Software Management folder contains instructions for SW upgrade and
update, backup and restore, license management, and file management.
— Toolbox Description
The Toolbox Description folder provides information on a number of
commands and scripts that can facilitate management of the EPG.
— Reference Information
The Reference Information folder contains reference information about
alarms, CLI commands, counters, log files, parameters, and MIB descriptions.
3.2.8 Emergency
The Emergency folder contains the information needed to re-establish services
after serious disturbances on the EPG.
3.2.9 Troubleshooting
The Troubleshooting folder contains the information needed to perform
troubleshooting of non-emergency problems on the EPG software.

3.2.10 Interfaces and Protocols
The Interfaces and Protocols folder contains descriptions of the interfaces and
protocols through which the EPG connects to other network elements.
4 Typographic Conventions
The following typographic conventions are used across the CPI library:
Mandatory input Mandatory input data typed into the system by
the user exactly as its written in the document.
[Optional input] Optional input data typed into the system by the
user if applicable.
Variable input Variable input data typed into the system by
the user. The user replaces the text with the
applicable information, for example, the user
replaces port number with the applicable port
number.
output Output data from the system, including the
prompt.
object An object displayed on-screen, for example, a
button.
keystroke Keystrokes and keyboard shortcuts.
emphasis Highlighted text.
system elements, System elements, for example, names of paths
commands, scripts and directories, as well as commands and scripts.
Also used for web sites and web addresses.
