Slope of A Line: Performance Task # 4

This document discusses slope and its relationship to effort exerted during different cycling activities. It contains four sections that describe: 1) A positive slope where effort increases as altitude increases, like a cyclist climbing uphill. 2) A negative slope where effort decreases as altitude decreases, like a cyclist gliding downhill. 3) A horizontal slope of zero where effort can be varied without changing altitude, like riding on flat ground. 4) A vertical slope that is undefined, where no movement is possible like placing a bicycle vertically upright.

Performance Task # 4

Slope of a Line

A positive slope means that the two variables x

and y are positively related.

In the picture, as the cyclist goes upward, his effort

to be exerted will also increases. The cyclist goes
higher his energy and effort will also increases.

A negative slope means that two variables are

negatively related. When the x increases, the y
decreases.
In the picture, as the boy glides down the hill his
effort to be exerted will decrease.

A horizontal slope or slope of zero, there is a

constant relatively between x and y. The line is flat.

In the picture, it shows that the girl is riding the

bicycle in a flat area. She can either choose whether
she likes to exert more or less effort if she wants to
ride fast or slow pace.

A vertical slope or undefined, the x coordinate

never changes no matter what the y coordinate is.
There is no run.

In the picture, it shows that the girl and the boy

place the bicycles in the upward direction. Since the
bicycle is in that position, there is undefined
movement. The bicycle will not run.
