BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Elante Mall ( Nexus Malls ) is a shopping mall in the city
of Chandigarh in India. With the gross leasable area of
1,000,000 sq ft (93,000 m2), it is the ten largest shopping mall in
Northern India and the seventh largest in India. Elante is spread over
an area of 20 acres. It is part of a mixed use real estate
development project by Larsen & Toubro called Elante.
Sited with an industrial sector , with about 5% devoted to the
landscape , serves as an iconic development for the regions of
Punjab and Haryana .
The design of the mall ensures customer comfort with all amenities
and easy circulation covering a central courtyard, well planned
service and utility areas, both vertical and horizontal circulation and
greenery covering both plantation and horticulture.
ABOUT LANDSCAPE:
During the development period
of 2010-2013, for ELANTE MUD
, the Nupur prothi founder of
Beyond Built pvt.ltd. , completed
the landscape for L&T’s elante
,Chandigarh.
The motive of landscape design
is to create a meaningful and
memorable public space.
This project offers an
opportunity to design outdoor
space to redefine the generic
‘retail experience’. As oppose to
simply serving as a backdrop to
shopping, the scale and location
of central court offer a range of
experience with cultural Location of site for ELANTE
engagements.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY:
While the architecture is aimed at
grandeur , the landscape is intended to
offer comfort to the public in its
simplicity.
The availability of large central court
approximately covers 80,000 sq.ft of
area, located in the heart of complex,
serves as the social nucleus of the Social nucleus of mall
mall.
Designed as a largely uninterrupted
space , while keeping the materials
and design according to human
proportions.
To consolidate the landscape with the
building essentials , the requirements
of fire ,vehicular and drainage system
are designed in such way to create a
large interaction space.

To organize symphony of simultaneous
activities and offering independence to the
various age groups, a series of small courts
are built into main plazas using play of
levels and materials. The area of 3 acres of
the site is served as a central courtyard
which is surrounded by, hotels, offices,
retails , and food court.
To develop relation between different age
groups, the central court is encompasses of
people’s plaza and open air theatre is
designed for cultural and large gatherings ,
pulmeria court and palm court for passive
interaction , and pebble court is conceived The large planted areas are
for children to play or for hosting of intimate attempted to create the experience of

A small area is set up at south-east end of built on top of basement slab and
the plaza which serves the dual purpose of integrated with lighting and seating
being a stage as well as a contained area

MATERIAL USED:
Paved area of the court is covered
with alternating shades of grey and
yellow.
The paving pattern is designed to add
directionality to the space invites the
visitors to exit, and explore the space.

1. PEOPLE’S PLAZA:
Designed as a largest space for public engagement, is a flexible as well as
dynamic mixed-use space catering to wide range of uses such as OAT and open
catering for food court .
The stepped grass and stone edged terraces also serve as seating for
performances . These grassed terraces ,along with pebble court, offer the main
soft-scaped usable spaces.

2. PALM COURT:
Arranged with the stepped seating space, the palm court is named
so it is surrounded with line of palm trees. This area is created for
relaxation , recreation , and small gatherings.
A large cut out of the well, measuring 6300 sq.ft initially posed a
challenge with regards to its size and treatment.
Use of level and finish of aqua colored glass provides the perception
of large pool amidst the landscape.

3. PULMERIA COURT:
This space is the highest court at site facing mall entry into the central court .
This is designed to enable daytime activities in shaded areas incorporating
informal seating and display areas.
With accessibility become a central concern ramps have been incorporated
leading up to various courts.
The retaining walls for the large planted areas are provided with the niches
for seating using unembellished cuboids form to contribute to the simplicity of
the landscape.
PULMERIA COURT DETAILS
4.NORTH WESTERN ENTRANCE PLAZA:
The client’s requirement is to provide a pedestrian entry on the north west
corner of the site , at the junction of two main roads of this industrial sector.
The entrance is designed as a space to attract visitors while offering a space to
sit and enjoy the landscape.
It has been designed with angular geometry and two water bodies inspired from
traditional step wells , the ponds were earlier conceived as reflecting pools with
stepped seating.
Soft scape cutouts are designed to add greenery without taking away from
brand visibility or architectural façade.
PLANTING IDEOLOGY:
The landscape concept focuses on reserving larger spaces
for planting in the midst of hardscape.
It is located on a slab covering double basement, space for
softscape are builtup in such a way for ensuring proper
drainage and waterproofing.
The concept of plantation is based on seasoning and colors.
As pulmeria court has white/moon theme garden while palm
court expresses a palm and tall grass palette.
All planting elements are woven together to create a unique
and stimulating landscape experience.
