Drilling & Workover Organization
Flame Resistant Clothing (FRC)
January 2021
The Alerts are provided to all Drilling and Workover Operations Foremen and Liaisonmen so that we all learn from the
experiences of others. The knowledge of this incident could prevent similar ones from happening in the future.
Saudi Aramco policy requires the information in this Alert to be communicated to all crew members and documented on
morning reports.
During recent management visits to rigs, some individuals were wearing Red
Wings jackets that are not FRC and made of polyester material (93% polyester).
This type of jacket is not FRC and is prohibited in restricted areas where FRC is
required. Wearing non-flame-resistant garments over FRC will prevent it from
functioning as intended which can have fatal consequences.
Note that Saudi Aramco prohibits FRC Red Wings jackets manufactured with
chemically treated cotton (98% chemically treated flame resistant cotton) similar
to photos below. The protective properties in chemically treated fabrics may wash
out with time. As a guideline in Safety Management Guide, FRC shall be replaced
when worn out or after 2 years of regular use.
