Classroom and Group
Mindsets & Behaviors Action Plan
The ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors guide the planning and delivery of all
student activities and interventions. The purpose of the classroom and group
Mindsets & Behaviors action plan is to provide an overview of the delivery of
direct services in a large group (LG), classroom (Class) and small group (SG) settings. This plan presents the topics
addressed, and the annual calendar presents schedule of all classroom and groups activities.
Use the classroom and group Mindsets & Behaviors action plan to identify all ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors addressed
through classroom and group activities. While some activities address multiple ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors, list the
activity with the primary mindset or behavior addressed by the activity. It is not necessary to repeat activities with all
ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors addressed through that activity.

Classroom and Group Mindsets & Behaviors Action Plan - Summary Report
To ensure that all students in our school have the opportunity to meet the mindset and
behavior requirements, each advisory group will facilitate a plethora of activities that will build
students skills and competencies related to the mindsets and behaviors. The school counselor has
targeted activities that will reach the entire student population through guidance lessons, alumni
panels, small circle discussion, and other activities. These activities will primarily be
implemented by the school counselor, however many can be incorporated into the standard
curriculum and performed by teachers to increase student competency.
Due to most of the competencies requiring relationship elements, we tried to create
activities that would encourage group work, peer participation, and overall social connectedness
so that students have multiple opportunities to make connections and feel at the same level as
their peers. In addition, we try to limit the power differentials between teacher/counselor and
student by encouraging facilitator participation, this will increase student and teacher
relationships and help students feel more comfortable, safer, and supported within the classroom.
We have aimed to implement this through hot seat activities and general activity participation.
Some of the skills that have been focused on within this action plan include: critical
thinking skills, time management, study skills, group work, technology skills, interpersonal
skills, self management, coping skills, oral/written communication skills, and social skills. These
core skills that we believe target the mindsets and behaviors, when practiced by students in a
lesson, will foster appropriate and effective development in the school population. As school
counselors are ethically charged to meet the complex and challenging needs of all students
related to academic, career, and social/emotional needs. In order to ensure that all students are
developing at an appropriate rate, school counselors must implement lesson plans that stimulate
student growth within the mindsets and behaviors through discussions and group activities.
