6.0 WORK METHODOLOGY
6.1 Coordination at site
i) To identify the actual location for earthing installation in accordance to approved shop
drawings.
ii) Identify the installation locations.
iii) Coordinate with C&S contractor on the schedule of works.
iv) Ensure all materials, equipment and tools are ready prior to commencing installation.
v) Ensure all earth testers used shall be calibrated by approved authorities.
6.2 Safety Measures
i) Worker to attend safety induction conducted by site safety officer.
ii) Worker shall practice minimal safety procedure with the use of safety helmet, safety glasses,
safety boot and glove.
iii) Site clearance shall be obtained before start works.
(Note 1:exothermic welding cannot proceed during or immediate after raining, all graphite
moulds and weld surface must be dry to avoid cracking of graphite mould when igniting the
weld metal
6.3 Earthing System
a) Exothermic Welding Process
i) All graphite mould be dry and clean before conduct the first joint in every day
ii) Complete tools such as mould scraper, brush, handle clamp, powder, packing and duxeal
must be ready at site.
iii) Clean rebar, cable or conductor surface to be welded to remove rust and oxidize area for
quality joint.
iv) Check the mould size and type of mould, and powder size to ensure correct joint can be
obtained. Ensure graphite mould is position on to right place before insert cable.
v) Position the conductor into the mould nicely.
vi) Place the metal disc in bottom of the mould crucible.
viii) Dump welding powder into crucible, spreading some starting powder on edge of mould.
ix) Close lid and tighten the handle clamp to rebar.
x) Check the condition of mould to avoid any hole that can cause leaking during welding
process. Use duxeal to cover the hole if there is any.
xi) Ignite with flint gun from side, firing spark onto the starting powder.
xii) Reaction takes place.
xiii) Exothermic welding completed.
6.4 Earthing System Installation
Laying 95mm2 PVC Stranded Copper Cable / 25mm x 3mm Copper Tape
Vertically from Pile Cap Started Bar Basement 5 to 500mm Pigtail at L1 Floor
i) Site clearance form indicating can be lay must be obtained to avoid interruption other works
processes.
ii) 25mm x 3mm / 95mm2 PVC Stranded Copper Cable/25mmx3mm Copper Tape are first to be
exothermically bar completed and before concrete casting.
iii) Process to weld to the bore pile reinforcement bar can only come in after installation of pile
reinforcement bar completed and before concrete casting.
iv) 95mm2 PVC Stranded Copper Cable /25mmx3mm Copper Tape to be laid from pile cap’s
starter Rebar to Ground Floor(leaving an extra length of 500mm for future connections)as per
shop drawings.
6.5 Laying 25mm x 3mm Copper Tape in slab for Pile to Pile Interlinking at Basement
i) First, identify the actual location for earthing installation in accordance to approved shop
drawings.
ii) Site clearance shall be obtained before commencement of work.
iii) 25mm x 3mm Copper tape to be laid horizontally in slab to connect the piles as per approved
shop drawings.
iv) Ensure the correct lengths of conductor measured out before being laid to avoid having to
perform additional and unnecessary joints.
v) Photos are to be taken for records.
vi) Once the work is completed, the contractor shall request relevant parties to perform inspection
of the work before casting of the floor slab.
vii) All the inspection checklist, pictures and relevant documentation shall be retained properly for
the project records.
6.6 Installation of Four Hole Test Points
i) Identify the location to install the Four Hole Test Points.
Four Hole Test Point
ii) Measure the height of test point level from FFL(300mm for services earth,1800mm for lightning Earth at
basement Floor) as per approved shop drawings.
iii) To perform exothermic welding cable to the point.
iv) Cover with test point cover-ensuring the surface is flush with the column surface.
6.7 Laying 25mm x 3mm / 95mm2 /120mm2 /150mm2 PVC Stranded Copper Cable from Pile Cap
Started Bar to Test Point Location at Basement 5 and basement 1
i) Site clearance form indicating the location can be lay must be obtained to avoid interruption other
works processes.
ii) 25mm x 3mm copper tape / 95mm2 / 120mm2 /150mm2 PVC Stranded Copper Cable are first to be
exothermically welded to the selected pile cap’s Rebar.
iii) Process to weld to the bore pile reinforcement bar can only come in after installation of pile
reinforcement bar completed and before concrete casting.
iv) 25mm x 3mm / 95mm2 PVC Stranded Copper Cable to be laid from pile cap’s starter Rebar to
Test Point Location at Ground level as per approved shop drawings.
