Solomon (Sol) Kerzner, was born on the 23 of

August 1935, he is a South African accountant and

SOLOMON business magnate. His family started a hotel chain


then he took over the running of the group and
went on to create the most successful hotel group

(SOL) KERZNER in South Africa. He is now the Founder, Chairman,


and CEO of Kerzner International and his career
SOUTH AFRICAN spans more than 45 years in the resort industry.

A leadership style is a leader's style of providing direction, implementing plans, and


motivating people. According to Munroe and beirne, 1954, transformational business
leadership is a form of leadership characterized by the leader’s ability to show
conviction of right values, beliefs and shared purpose that lead to; on term positive
implications for the business.

South African leaders share the ability to recognise an opportunity to improve the
existing state of the country, they are driven by the passion to see their ideas make
the real impact around the world. They believe that being a great leader is not about
making public appearance and trying to memorize different speeches but is about
leaving a mark by displaying important qualities and giving people a better path in
life.

The purpose of this essay is to discuss the South African transformational business
leader and his leadership style. The essay will focus on Mr Solomon Kerzner,
particularly his leadership style. Firstly, a short description of Mr Solomon Kerzner
will, be discussed, secondly, his leadership style will be discussed and lastly the
reason behind his success will be discussed.

Mr Solomon Kerzner was born in Johannesburg, on august 23, 1935. He is the


youngest of four siblings. He attended then university of Witwatersrand, in
Johannesburg. He graduated as the charted accountant and worked for one of the
Durban’s biggest accountancy firms, he later went to run the family hotel business.
Mr Solomon Kerzner married four times. His first wife was Maureen Adler, they had
three children. His second wife was Shirley Bestbier; they had two children His third
wife was Anneline Kriel and his fourth wife was Heather Murphy and  they divorced
(Ipfs.io, 2018).

Mr Solomon Kerzner career in hospitality began in 1962 and spans more than 45
years in the resorts industry. Today Mr Solomon Kerzner is the leading international
developer and operator of destination resorts, casinos, luxury hotels and residential
property. He has played an important role in the development of tourism in South
Africa,

thinking and planning. He Have a well-developed business mindset, he is good at
making effective plans, setting goals and working out the best way to achieve his
goal. He has excellent organisational and administrative skills, he thinks before he
acts, he constantly plans the short- and long-term future, and to keep elaborate
notes and diary with everything well planned and written down. He knows how to
work effectively and efficiently with others in business, while maintaining self-control
and discipline, and teaching them to appreciate knowledge as the key ingredient to
success. He is also a natural healer, with leadership qualities and the ability to
genuinely empathize. He also radiates love and spiritual happiness to those around
him. He likes to give advice to others even when his own life is a mess.

Mr Solomon Kerzner achieved and build a lot ever since he started his career in
hospitality. In 1962 he purchased the Astra hotel in Durban, in 1969 he established
the chain of southern sun hotels, in 1975 he opened a hotel in Mauritius, he named it
Le Saint Geran and in 1979 he started developing sun city. The journey continues,
and success followed him, in 1994 he purchased the paradise island resort, in 1996
he opened Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut, in 2002 he launched one&only
resorts, in 2007 he expanded Atlantis, paradise island with new hotels, in 2008 he
extended the Atlantis brand globally and lastly in 2007 he purchased a residential
property in Cape Town

Mr Solomon Kerzner leadership style is visionary and transformational, because he


is one of the fastest thinkers around the world, he is the most keen and numerate

the South African chairmen and CEO of Kerzner international, a billionaire real
estate tycoon and the operator of destination resorts. This means that he is able to
motivate others, he is able to set clear goals, he ,is able to set high standards of
performance and expectations, he is able to be fair and honest to his work, he
appreciates his employees for the work they put in every task, he encourages the
employees to look at the greater good of the business not only their self-interests, all
this are qualities of a visionary or transformational leader such as Mr Solomon
Kerzner.

challenges ahead, I believe that is why he is one of the successful businessmen in
South Africa and around the world.

Mr Solomon Kerzner inspire people to move in the right direction, he stimulates his
employees intellectually, he always demands the best from them and that results into
employees thinking of ways to make him happy.
Solomon Kerzner lessons to his employees, he appreciates their excellence, he
goes beyond managing day to day operations and set strategies for taking his
business to the next level performance and success. He focuses on team building,
motivation and collaboration with employees at different levels of the business to
accomplish change for the better.

These days more than ever, we as youth we need courageous leaders who
empower us to reach heights we never thought are possible, we need our leaders to
expand their capabilities and move outside of the transactional space and into
transformational space that focuses on long-term solutions rather than short term
gains, a good example is EFF leader, Julius Malema. What I have learned is that
success is not about making money, it is about making a positive difference in
peoples lives just like how Mr Solomon Kerzner did, and that success is not a
destination but a journey. according to the research and Mr Solomon Kerzner
interviews, I have learned that success is about hard work, dedication, motivation
and passion.
