SIGMUND FREUD
I’m fond of Sigmund Freud’s work. Freud’s work is significant to the world of
Psychology, many of his work influence other psychologist works and this is
might be the reason why Sigmund Freud is known for being the Father of
Modern Psychology. He has this big figure to the inspiring psychologist of this
era. Because he’s really famous for his works, that could explain the human
behavior. Especially in today’s era which teens and young adult are curious on
learning the concept of personality and which likely lead to looking on Sigmund
Freud. Not only Sigmund Freud has this big name for psychologists but he’s also
a household name. if you ask someone in your home, school or even in office
they might answer “ah yes the old psychologist who love to smoke during
therapy while you’re sitting on a reclining chair”.
Freud is also known for his creation such as the term Ego, Superego and Id. Any
student or even professionals might know this simple concept of personality
which is compose by these three (3) key points. And there’s a reason why
People know this concept because it is really simple concept that could explain
the personality of a person. Yes, there are other theories of personality but if you
ask them the first thing, they might come up is these three (3) key points. It
really tells why Sigmund Freud is the Father of Modern Psychology. He’s also
known for the Psychosexual development which really laid out the concept of
“who you are right now is a reflection how you surpass each of the development”
and somewhat I kind of believe in that concept which might tell who am I right
now is just a product of who was I before then.
I also fond of his creation especially on the Ego’s defense mechanism, this
particular topic really make sense, because it really laid out the explanation why
we have this kind of response when we are suffering to things such as stress and
other stimuli that might trigger these defense mechanisms. Freud laid out these
multiple defense mechanisms beautifully like even a simple person could really
understand.
Freud also talks about the Topographical scheme of the psyche which really laid
out the basic explanation of the Conscious, preconscious and unconscious. He
laid the explanation for this concept in such an ease. It’s easy to understand his
explanation to state of awareness.
To conclude this whole idea of Sigmund Freud, I could only say that he’s really
the Father of Modern Psychology and he’s such a household name for the
Psychology. There’s a reason why he’s known in current era. He’s also gaining
popularity because of the social media which is really easy to quote Sigmund
Freud words and there is entertainment outlet that focuses on Sigmund Freud life
which allows the people to be interested in Psychology. Though Freud is also a
controversial person, this doesn’t stop him for being a significant person in
today’s era. And people should really look on him when starting in psychology.
CARL JUNG
Carl Jung is a Swiss Psychologist; He’s also known for being an associate with
Sigmund Freud. If people would look up on Carl Jung, they could tell that there
are similarities on their work. And Notably for being a much better work than
Freud. And there is a reason why, because Carl Jung doesn’t fully support Freud
works and this is why Carl Jung created his own Theory. And thus, the birth of
Analytical Psychology. Carl Jung is known for being the father of Analytical
Psychology. He’s much more relatable person for me. Jung’s childhood is
relatable being alone most of the time, spends time playing alone using his
imaginative mind. And also, he’s an introverted kid, Totally relatable.
Carl Jung is basically Freud 2.0. Jung works explains Freud’s work in much
detailed sense. He laid out his own explanation on the key points of Freud’s work
because he doesn’t fully support Freud’s idea and most of Jung’s work
emphasize in much whole general sense. The reason why? Because Freud’s
ideas are too much sexualize and Jung doesn’t like that and I kind of agree.
Freud’s theory is too much sexualize and thus, making him hate by feminist
party. Jung wanted Freud’s work on a much general sense.
I am fond of Jung’s work on his structure of personality. It is such a simple
concept the same as Freud but Jung laid out more explanation on the
unconscious part. Unlike Freud which he laid the personality with these three (3)
ideas; the Ego, Superego and the Id. Jung used Ego along with two unconscious
concept which is the Personal Unconscious and Collective Unconscious.
Personal Unconscious is basically easy to understand it is something that we
aren’t actively aware but it is something in tuck in our mind, something that
needs to be recall. What I like most is the Collective Unconscious which really
makes Jung’s work to be unique from Freud’s concept of personality. Jung
collective unconscious is something that we humans share, from the moment we
born we are somewhat connected and the same. In this concept he laid out this
variety of archetypes which explain why we are like this and what might happen if
we tend to over or to lack of. In these archetypes it might explain why we are like
this, why am I being irrational or why am I having this intrusive thought or maybe
why am I acting out like this in front of my friends. Jung explained this well on his
theory and it’s fascinating that he really laid it out beautifully that even a non-
psychology student could have grasp of the theory.
To conclude Carl Jung. Jung is such a great psychologist; in my opinion he is
much better than Sigmund Freud because Jung laid out Freud’s concept in much
better way or sense. But Carl Jung isn’t an unknown psychologist, he is also
popular for the people who are invested on the idea in psychology. He might not
be the first person to ring on people’s mind when asking who might they know in
the field of the psychology but still Jung is in there in the well-known names in
Psychology.
ALFRED ADLER
Alfred Adler born in Austria, Adler is a Medical doctor and also a
Psychotherapist. He’s known for his work which is the Individual Psychology.
Adler is also a well-known name within the field of psychology but rarely he come
up in a casual talk about psychology. What I like really about Adler’s theory is the
whole point for it and that is the string for superiority.
Adler believe that each of us were born into this world in a sense’s weakness.
Thus, making us strive hard for this goal, the self-ideal. IMO this is what makes
Adler standout from his associates from Freud’s crew. Having the goal of
superiority as the main primary objective of the psyche. Which it does really
make sense for explaining why we are striving for this self-ideal. Although this is
quite similar to Jung’s self-realization, Adler emphasize on being “Perfect” Which
his perfection is synonym to the word superiority.
I’m also fond of the creative self, which deals on the style of live. It just laid out
the concept of being living to fullest, which is quite a simple concept but it’s
fascinating. Just having this quest for the better of ourselves in our unique way.
It’s similar to things I already learned such as Eudaimonia which its primary goal
is living to the fullest, and this kind of things really makes me interest because
one’s life should be live to its maximum and nothing should be on waste.
To conclude Adler, Adler emphasize to this “self-ideal”, the strive to be a perfect
being. And I would really recommend to the others to read about Adler because it
deals with the lifestyle, which might help them to attain this self-ideal.
MELANIE KLEIN
Melanie Klein is an Austrian-British author also a Psychoanalyst. Klein’s work is
built upon observing the young children. His work is heavily influenced by
Sigmund Freud, especially by the Psychosexual development. According to Klein
that we are directed by the objects, the relations our built by this object. The
simple example is when the baby is hungry, they think of the breast as the
object. Because this is what they associate with it.
Klein concept is simple, that the life of a person would reflect how the baby have
this good relationship with his mother. Having a good relationship while young
would explain how good will this baby in his interpersonal relationship when he
grows old. Complications might happen if there is something wrong in the
development. Such complication is developing Borderline personality disorder
(BPD) or even a Narcissistic personality.
The whole idea of this concept is emphasizing the importance of the relationship
to its mother. Especially how a mother does its parenting part to its children. IMO
it really makes sense, because it really reflects to who we are right from how we
raise by our mother. What makes us who we are now is because how our mother
raises us, we are so delicate being that really need to carefully raise which if not
it might lead to consequences such as having personality disorder.
To conclude Klein concept, it raises the importance of development of the young
children. Basically how the mother do its parenting and how her relationship goes
on with his children will reflect the personality of his children when they get old.
