INTRODUCTION

I am Funmilayo E Omowumi,a Nigerian,married with two kids(a boy-6 and a girl-16 months). I
was born, bred and raised in Nigeria in a family of 3 where all my family members resides. I am
here in the United States with my immediate family.
I had my educational background in Nigeria where I had my training as a registered nurse and
a midwife. I was pursuing a bachelor degree in Nursing prior relocation to United States. It has
always been my aspirations to pursue my career to at least the PHD level and the desire to
achieve this goal prompted my return to school as soon as feasible which I believe is NOW. As
with every aspect of life, there are challenges that generates nervousness and uncertainty
which are not insurmountable so I naturally I have fears and things that make me nervous
including but not limited to getting to know the educational system which is different from what I
know and was used to.
Selecting and applying to chamberlain University was based on the prompt response I received
following my initial inquiry ( I reached out to about 4 Universities) and the decision was further
reinforced by my advisor( She was simply great). I currently work on a cardiac step-down unit
though not as a nurse. I live and work in Providence,Rhode Island in Eastern standard
Time(GMT-5). I enjoy reading novels, journals, traveling(not since I relocated), spending time
with my family and look forward to enjoying my time at the University while working towards
fruition of my goals.
