ABOUT THE NASL

The 2017 North American Soccer League (NASL) Season will

feature eight clubs competing for the right to lift the Soccer Bowl
Trophy.

The San Francisco Deltas enter their inaugural season as the

league’s first West Coast club during the Modern Era. San
Francisco joins FC Edmonton, Indy Eleven, Jacksonville Armada
FC, Miami FC, New York Cosmos, North Carolina FC, and Puerto
Rico FC.

The clubs will compete under the league’s split-season format,

which consists of 16 games in the Spring Season (March-July) and
16 in the Fall Season (July-October). The winners of the Spring
and Fall Seasons earn a place in The Championship, the league’s
four-club postseason tournament. The two clubs with the next-
best overall records will receive the remaining postseason berths.

4
The champion lifts the Soccer Bowl Trophy, the third-oldest
professional outdoor soccer prize in the North America.

The New York Cosmos enter the 2017 season as the defending
champions after besting Indy Eleven in a penalty-kick shootout
last November. Defender Ryan Richter converted the winning spot
kick to give New York back-to-back NASL titles, as well as its third
in four years.

In addition to competing in league play, six U.S.-based clubs will

play in the 104th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. FC
Edmonton will participate in the Amway Canadian Championship,
while Puerto Rico FC will compete in the Caribbean Club
Championship. The winner of each of those three competitions
earns automatic entry into the CONCACAF Champions League.

RULES & REGULATIONS

Structure: The 2017 NASL season will once again be played under a split-
season format. The Spring and Fall Season Champions will each host a semifinal
in the league’s four-team postseason tournament, The Championship, and
the pair will be joined by the next two clubs with the best combined records.
The top seed in The Championship will be awarded to either the Spring or Fall
Champion, depending on which has the better combined record in the regular
season. The third and fourth seeds will then be determined by the teams’
positions in the Combined Standings. The top-seeded team after the semifinals
will host The Championship Final. If one club wins both season championships,
the clubs posting the second, third, and fourth-best overall records will enter
The Championship.

Schedule: In the 2017 Spring and Fall Seasons, eight teams will play against
each other twice - once at home and once away - plus an additional two games.

Point System: Teams will receive three points for a win, one point for a draw,
and zero points for a loss.

Referees: All referees for NASL matches played in the United States are
nationally certified and assigned by the Professional Referee Organization
(PRO), while the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) assigns referees for
all matches played in Canada. CONCACAF will designate officials for the
encounters in Puerto Rico.

Game Clock: The official game time for all NASL games will be managed on the
field by the referee. If necessary, the referee may also allot extra time (stoppage
time) at the end of each half – first, second, and if applicable, first overtime
and second overtime during postseason games. The stadium clock will display
the time from 0:00 to 45:00 and from 45:00 to 90:00 (plus stoppage time
where applicable in each half). For statistical purposes, the minutes for goals,
substitutions, yellow cards, etc., will be listed from the first minute until the
90th minute. For example, a goal scored at 15 minutes 10 seconds will be listed
as having been scored in the 16th minute.

Team Rosters: During the Season, each team’s master roster shall be no less
than 20 players and no more than 35 total players. Players can compete on a
maximum of two teams per Spring or Fall season.

Active Roster and Inactive Roster: While the total roster size can be 35 players,
only 30 are eligible to be on the active roster at a given time. Only the players
listed on the active roster can compete in an NASL league game. When a player
is on the inactive roster, the player must remain inactive for 30 days. To move
a player from the active to inactive roster or vice versa, the team must notify
the Registrar, in writing, at least 48 hours before the league game to reflect the
changes.

8
Domestic Players: Domestic players for teams located in the United States are
U.S. citizens, permanent residents (green card holders), and holders of a special
status (e.g., refugee or asylum status). Canadian citizens are also considered
as domestic players for teams in U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. For teams
located in Canada, domestic players are Canadian citizens, permanent residents
(green card holders), landed immigrants (non-Canadian citizenship permanent
residents), and players who qualify as domestic in the U.S.

International Players: Each team may list up to seven non-domestic players on

its master roster.

Game-Day Rosters: Each team may nominate 18 players from its active roster
for a game-day roster. Teams are allowed three substitutions per game.

Cautions and Suspensions: A player will be suspended for one game upon
receiving a fifth accumulated yellow card throughout the Spring or Fall Seasons
– regardless of the nature of the infraction. After a player has been suspended
for five yellow cards, an additional one-game suspension will be added each
time after another three yellow cards are accumulated. A player receiving two
yellow cards in the same game will receive a red card and will be suspended
for the next game. However, that will only count as one red card and not two
yellow cards added to the accumulation total. A player that receives a direct
red card will automatically be suspended for the next game, and the NASL
Disciplinary Committee has the power to suspend him for additional games,
depending upon the severity of the red card offense. Card accumulations reset
to zero after each season (Spring and Fall).

Card Suspensions: Red-card and yellow-card accumulation suspensions earned

in regular season games will be served in that player’s next regular-season
game. Any suspension for yellow-card accumulation earned in a player’s last
regular season game will carry over into that season’s first postseason game
for his team. Any player who receives a red card in his team’s last game of
the season - NASL regular season or during playoff games - will serve the
one-game suspension during their next game (whether it comes in The
Championship Semifinals, Final, or in the first regular-season game of the next
season). All card suspensions will, if applicable, follow a player to a new team.

Suspension Manipulation: Players suspended from NASL regular-season or

postseason games that are called in for national team duty will have their
suspensions held in abeyance until they return to their NASL team. Teams
will be responsible for informing the League Office of a player’s selection to
national team duty. Failure to provide the League Office with such notice or
to withhold the use of a suspended player when appropriate is subject to
sanctions.

9
RULES & REGULATIONS (CONT.)

League Standings: The team awarded the highest position in the league
standings will be the team with the greatest number of points at the conclusion
of the respective Spring or Fall Season. In the event that two or more teams
have an equal number of points, the following system will be used to determine
their rank in the league standings:

1) Goal Differential: The highest position shall be awarded to the team with the
greater goal difference against all other teams during the regular season.

2) Total Goals: The highest position shall be awarded to the team scoring
the greatest number of total goals against all other teams during the regular
season.

3) Head-To-Head Competition: The highest position shall be awarded to the

team with the best win/draw/loss record in regular-season games against all
other teams equal in points.

4) Away Goal Difference/Away Goals Scored: The highest position shall be

awarded to the team with the greater away goal differential than the other
teams. If needed, the highest position shall be awarded to the team with the
greater total of away goals scored.

LEAGUE BALL & SILVERWARE

NASL OFFICIAL MATCH BALL

Since March 1, 2016, the NASL and Under Armour have
been engaged in a partnership in which the sporting
goods manufacturer provides official NASL-branded
match balls for all training sessions, matches, and
community activities. The match ball features the
NASL’s signature red and blue colors as well as the
league’s logo. As one of the world’s fastest-growing
sports companies, Under Armour already has an
extensive sports partner portfolio that features dozens
of professional teams, college teams and athletes from
around the globe.

SOCCER BOWL TROPHY

The Soccer Bowl Trophy, named to honor the heritage
of the NASL Legendary Era, will be awarded annually
to the winner of The Championship Final. The Soccer
Bowl Trophy, which is third oldest men’s professional
outdoor soccer prize in the United States, was crafted
in England and designed by 343RLP+ Creative. Each
year, the NASL Champions have their team name
engraved on the Soccer Bowl Trophy.

SPRING, FALL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES

Awarded to the winners of the respective Spring and
Fall Championships, the trophies were custom made
in England and designed by 343RLP+ Creative, the
same company behind the Soccer Bowl Trophy and the
NASL league branding.

2017 OUTLOOK

Two seasons ago, the New York Cosmos sent Raúl and Marcos Senna into
retirement in fairytale fashion, lifting the Soccer Bowl Trophy for a second
time in three years. The question going into 2016 was how the club would
defend its title without the pair of legends, but the Cosmos managed to do it,
knocking off Indy Eleven in a penalty-kick shootout last November for its third
championship in the league’s Modern Era.

In 2017, NASL clubs will once again face off in a split-season format, which
is balanced with 16 games apiece in both the Spring and Fall Seasons. The
competition will then culminate with The Championship, the league’s four-club
postseason tournament, in November.

“The season has finally arrived, and we couldn’t be more excited to get back
to playing in front of our fans,” said NASL Interim Commissioner Rishi Sehgal.
“The pitch is where we’re all able to truly celebrate the beautiful game, and
we expect this season to bring compelling and entertaining soccer back into
our communities. Over the years, our intense split-season competition has
produced the drama and excitement that fans crave. The 2017 season will be no
different, and we can’t wait to watch our clubs battle each other week in and
week out.”

12
Cosmos defender Ryan Richter, who scored the winning penalty kick in The
Championship Final, returns as a key piece on the back line, along with captain
Carlos Mendes and Ayoze. Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer also re-signed with the
club, as well as midfielders Andrés Flores and Danny Szetela. Flores’ teammates
with the Salvadoran national team, Irvin Herrera and Richie Menjivar, have also
joined the Cosmos ranks.

With several returners

playing a role in all three
title-winning seasons
in New York, the club
will look to use its past
experiences to push for
more silverware in 2017.

“Last year was a record-

setting season for the
club - not only did we
obtain our third Soccer
Bowl Trophy in four
years but we also proved
to be a consistent team,”
said Cosmos coach Giovanni Savarese. “Several teams have made significant
changes for the 2017 Season. We’re proud of the team that we have built and
we will honor our philosophy of preparing one match at the time to earn the
best possible results.”

The San Francisco Deltas enter as the league newcomer in 2017, competing
in their inaugural campaign as a club. With the addition of San Francisco, the
NASL will be represented on the West Coast for the first time in the Modern
Era. Coach Marc Dos Santos, who reached The Championship Final in 2015, is
at the helm and has built a squad capable of getting out of the gate quickly.
Former NASL Golden Glove winner Romuald Peiser has joined the side, along
with forward Tom Heinemann – both players have played under Dos Santos in
the past.

The Deltas roster features some familiar NASL faces and some interesting
newcomers like Canadian international Kyle Bekker and Kenny Teijsse, who
most recently played in the Dutch Eredivise with Go Ahead Eagles.

13
2017 OUTLOOK (CONT.)

“I think our biggest objective is to be competitive right off the bat,” Dos Santos
said. “We built a team that has a lot of experience - guys that have been in
playoff situations and on championship teams. We wanted to make sure we
brought in players that will help us make the playoffs in a competitive league.
It is difficult to do in our first season, but we believe we have all the right
personnel to compete.”

Runners-up in 2016, Indy Eleven will aim to replicate its success in the new
season. The Boys in Blue went unbeaten at Michael A. Carroll Stadium and
claimed the Spring
Season Trophy last
year. Eamon Zayed, the
club’s leading scorer a
year ago, returns along
with his strike partner,
Justin Braun. The pair
combined for 23 goals
last year – Zayed scored
15, while Braun found
the back of the net eight
times. Ben Speas signed
for the club during the
offseason and will look
to aid in creating scoring
chances, but he can find the goal himself, doing so four times in 2016.

“There’s a lot to play for this year, and we had the opportunity last year to get a
taste of what it’s like to win a championship and reach a final,” said Indy coach
Tim Hankinson. “The expectation for ourselves is to try and win even more and
get back to the final, and do a better job this time around. Our real goal this
year is to fight to put a star over our crest, so anything less than that would
be selling ourselves short after the experience we are bringing back from last
year.”

FC Edmonton reached the postseason for the first time since 2011, sporting the
league’s best defense. The club conceded a mere 21 goals in 32 games in 2016.
Goalkeeper Matt VanOekel posted a league record goals against average of
0.55, but he will not be back in Edmonton for the upcoming campaign. The club

14
will also be without leading scorer Daryl Fordyce. The Eddies, though, return
a strong cast including captain Albert Watson, midfielders Nik Ledgerwood
and Ben Fisk, and forward Jake Keegan. The club added several experienced
players such as Netan Sansara and Sabri Khattab, who both featured in Norway
recently.

We have to build on last season and we can’t just expect to be playoff

contenders — we have to prove it,” Eddies coach Colin Miller said. “We raised
the level of expectation last year and can’t have anyone drop below the
standard that we’ve set.”

Miami FC, which came close to reaching the postseason in the club’s inaugural
season in 2016, is primed to challenge for a place in The Championship in
2017. Maintaining a strong core that includes forward Jaime Chavez, midfielder
Kwadwo Poku, and defender and captain Johnny Borrajo, Miami FC has signed
several players that could make a big impact in the upcoming campaign.
Former NASL Best XI member Michel, who scored 14 goals a year ago, joins
the side along with former NASL Golden Boot and Golden Ball winner Stefano
Pinho.

“It’s a new year, a fresh start, and just like last year, we are determined to win
a championship,” said Miami FC coach Alessandro Nesta. “The technical staff
analyzed the good, the bad, and where exactly we could improve for this year.
I believe the roster moves that we’ve made will help us achieve the one goal
that we all have in mind. It will not be easy. There are seven other competitive
teams in this league but, we’re ready to go up against every single one. Miami
deserves a winning team and we hope to be just that for our city.”

North Carolina FC, formerly the Carolina RailHawks, is looking to connect

even further with its home state, while bringing the Soccer Bowl Trophy to
WakeMed Soccer Park after a mid-table finish last year. The club’s captain,
Nazmi Albadawi, set a league record with 10 assists and will return alongside
Tiyi Shipalane, Brian Shriver, and Matt Fondy to lead the attack. The club added
Marcel Kandziora, a product of the Borussia Dortmund Academy, as well as
Bolu Akinyode and Alex Molano to bolster the midfield.

“We’re really looking forward to this season because a lot of good, positive
things have happened, both on and off the field,” said North Carolina FC coach
Colin Clarke. “We’re returning a very strong core group of players and we’ve

15
2017 OUTLOOK (CONT.)

added a lot of young and hungry players. That’s what we were looking to do
this year. We’ve been training now for a couple of weeks, and I see some very
good signs. For us, as always, our goal is a championship.”

After a strong finish to the 2016 Fall

Season, Puerto Rico FC is aiming
to build off that form in 2017. PRFC
will take part in the CFU Club
Championship in the weeks leading
up to opening night and it could
propel the club to a fast start this
year. Key players such as Puerto
Rican internationals Hector Ramos
and Jackie Marrero are back with
the side, while the club has signed
forwards Conor Doyle and Giuseppe
Gentile and midfielder Jordi Quintilla
to boost the its attacking options.

“We’re very excited for our first full

season in the NASL,” said Puerto Rico FC coach Adrian Whitbread. “We think
that we have a much-improved team and we expect to be a serious competitor.
It will be a very busy 2017 with the CFU Club Championship taking place, but
our team has been training since early February and we have a good core from
the previous year coming back. Our new signings have been exciting ones, and I
think that we’ve built competition for starting roles, which we know is essential
for any winning team.”

Mark Lowry took over as coach of Jacksonville Armada FC at the end of

the 2016 season, and the side looked reinvigorated. Now, Lowry will look to
continue that momentum to start out 2017 with an energetic and young side.
Forward Charles Eloundou, who tied for a team lead with six goals last year,
and midfielder Danny Barrow will aim to find more consistency in the coming
year. Jacksonville also added promising talents in midfielders Jack Blake and
Bryam Rebellón.

“We believe we have put together a roster that not only suits our style of play,
but can also compete strongly in what is sure to be a very competitive season
for all teams,” Lowry said.

FC Edmonton had one of its best years in club history, reaching the postseason
for the first time since 2011, and setting several defensive records.

Goalkeeper Matt VanOekel, who posted a league record goals against average
of 0.55, will not be back with the club, nor will the team’s leading scorer, Daryl
Fordyce. The Eddies, though, have retained several key players from last year’s
side including Canadian internationals Ben Fisk and Nik Ledgerwood. The
club also brought in former Rangers FC midfielder Dean Shiels and Canadian
national team mainstay Adam Straith as the club looks to return to The
Championship in 2017.

“We’re excited about the challenge and the group of players that we have at
FC Edmonton this season,” said Eddies coach Colin Miller. “There’s a lot of
continuity from last year and some talented fresh faces have come in that all
add experience, quality, and are genuine good people, which is important when
you’re trying to build a strong squad.”

Indy Eleven had a wildly successful season in 2016, making it all the way to The
Championship Final. While Indy fell just short, succumbing to the New York
Cosmos in a penalty-kick shootout, the club could be just as strong this season.

The forward line of Justin Braun and Eamon Zayed will lead the attack for the
Boys in Blue once more. The Indy roster is also packed with veteran experience
with goalkeeper Jon Busch, defender Colin Falvey, and midfielders Brad Ring
and Mexican world cup legend Gerardo Torrado all remaining with the side. Ben
Speas could be an important addition in the final third for the club.

“Ben Speas has come in and he has already shown his incredible qualities,” said
Indy coach Tim Hankinson. “We hated to lose Dylan Mares, Greg Janicki, Duke
Lacroix, and others like that, but we believe in Ben and he will be very quick to
attack this year.

“Craig Henderson is a very intelligent player who is very clean on the ball. He
always seems to find the best option with a pass. There will be a rotation in the
midfield because we have a very good collective group of experienced guys
– names like Gerardo Torrado, Sinisa Ubiparipovic, Brad Ring, and Don Smart.
That’s a group that will be fighting all year long for that playing time, and each
one brings a different complimentary quality to this squad.”

Coach Mark Lowry took the helm late in the 2016 Fall Season, helping Jack-
sonville Armada FC improve over the final stretch of the year. The club finished
near the bottom of the Combined Standings, but the Armada FC’s young and
energetic roster will look to take a step forward.

The club’s attack will be led by the dynamic Charles Eloundou, who tied a
team-high six goals. In the midfield, another dynamic, young talent, Danny Bar-
row, will aim to find consistency in the coming year. The club also added Jack
Blake, another burgeoning talent, to the midfield. Jacksonville signed plenty of
experienced players including midfielder J.C Banks, defender Aaron Pitchkolan,
while retaining key veterans from last year – forward Jemal Johnson and mid-
fielder Kevan George.

“There is a real buzz around the town as the season draws closer,” Lowry said.
“The excitement from our fan base is palpable. They have been through a tough
couple of years on the field, and it’s our job as coaches and players to bring
them the success that their passion and loyalty deserves.”

After a slow start out of the gate in the 2016 Spring Season, Miami FC nearly
ended up reaching the postseason in its inaugural year. The club will now look
to be a bonafide title contender in its second year in the league.

Miami returns a strong core that includes defender Jonathan Borrajo,

midfielders Michael Lahoud and Kwadwo Poku, and forward Jaime Chávez.
The club, though, has added more firepower with the signings of Michel, who
scored 14 goals in 2016, and Stefano Pinho, who is a former NASL Golden Boot
and Golden Ball winner.

“It’s a new year, a fresh start, and just like last year, we are determined to
win the Championship,” said Miami FC Head Coach Alessandro Nesta. “The
technical staff analyzed the good, the bad, and where exactly we could improve
for this year. I believe the roster moves we’ve made will help us achieve the one
goal we all have in mind. It will not be easy. There are seven other competitive
teams in this league but, we’re ready to go up against every single one. Miami
deserves a winning team and we hope to be just that for our city.”

In 2016, the New York Cosmos completed their title defense, knocking off
Indy Eleven in a penalty-kick shootout. Including the club’s history in the
league’s Legendary Era, the Cosmos have now won eight titles – a record for
professional men’s outdoor soccer in the U.S.

Coach Giovanni Savarese has kept the bulk of the title-winning side together,
including the nucleus of the club’s experienced back line: Carlos Mendes, Ayoze,
and Ryan Richter. Salvadoran international Andrés Flores could have a bigger
role in the final third in 2017 and he’ll aim to connect with his international
teammate, Irvin Herrera, who is on loan from St. Louis FC, to spearhead the
Cosmos attack.

“Last year was a record-setting season for the New York Cosmos - not only did
we obtain our third Soccer Bowl Trophy in four years but we also proved to be
a consistent team,” said Cosmos coach Giovanni Savarese. “Several teams have
made significant changes for the 2017 Season. We’re proud of the team that we
have built and we will honor our philosophy of preparing one match at the time
to earn the best possible results.”

Formerly the Carolina RailHawks, the club has rebranded ahead of the 2017
season. With momentum off the field, the club will try to improve on it after its
eighth-place finish in the Combined Standings in 2016.

North Carolina FC’s attack will be led by captain Nazmi Albadawi, who set a
league record with 10 assists last year, midfielder Tiyi Shipalane, and forwards
Matt Fondy and Brian Shriver, who scored seven and six goals, respectively.
Young shot-stopper Brian Sylvestre will also aim to take another step forward
in his development with a chance at the No.1 goalkeeper jersey from the start of
the Spring Season.

“We’re really looking forward to this season because a lot of good, positive
things have happened, both on and off the field,” said North Carolina FC coach
Colin Clarke. “We’re returning a very strong core group of players and we’ve
added a lot of young and hungry players. That’s what we were looking to do
this year. We’ve been training now for a couple of weeks, and I see some very
good signs. For us, as always, our goal is a championship.”

Puerto Rico FC took part in the Fall Season in 2016, and after stumbling early,
the club found form at the tail end of the year – a run that included a seven-
game unbeaten streak.

Adrian Whitbread’s side will compete in the CFU Club Championship, allowing
the players to round into form ahead of the start of the 2017 NASL season
and the club will look to take advantage. Jordi Quintillà, a Barcelona Academy
product, Conor Doyle, and Giuseppe Gentile provide an attacking boost
alongside Puerto Rican internationals Jackie Marrero and Héctor Ramos, who
scored eight goals in the 2016 Fall Season.

“We are very excited for our first full season in the NASL in which we expect
to have a much improved team and be a serious competitor,” said Puerto Rico
FC coach Adrian Whitbread. “It will be a very busy 2017 with also having the
Caribbean Club Championship, but our team has been training since early
February and we have a good core from the previous year coming back. Our
new signings have been exciting ones and have built a competition for starting
roles that we wanted and we know is essential for any winning team.”

The San Francisco Deltas are competing in their inaugural season in 2017. Lead-
ing the team into its maiden voyage is Marc Dos Santos, who has recently led
two different teams to finals in two different leagues – Ottawa Fury FC (NASL)
in 2015 and Swope Park Rangers (USL) in 2016.

Joining Dos Santos in San Francisco are veteran goalkeeper Romuald Peiser
and forward Tom Heinemann, who both played under him in Ottawa. The squad
boasts plenty of NASL experience, specifically midfielder Greg Jordan and
defender Nana Attakora. Dos Santos has also looked abroad to bring in Kenny
Teijsse, who was most recently playing in the Dutch Eredivisie, and Cristian Por-
tilla, who has featured in La Liga during his career.

“I think our biggest objective is to be competitive right off the bat,” Dos San-
tos said. “We built a team that has a lot of experience - guys that have been
in playoff situations and on championship teams. We wanted to make sure we
brought in players that will help us make the playoffs in a competitive league. It
is difficult to do in our first season, but we believe we have all the right person-
nel to compete.”

all members of the media. All regulations regarding media access to the locker
rooms should be clearly communicated to team staff and security personnel to
ensure a secure environment. TV broadcast crew members may film inside the

UNITED STATES SOCCER FEDERATION

As the governing body of soccer at all levels in the

United States, U.S. Soccer has played an integral role
in charting the course for the sport for more than 100
years. In that time, the federation’s mission statement
has been clear and simple: To make soccer, in all its
forms, a preeminent sport in the United States and to
continue the development of soccer at all recreational
and competitive levels.

In 1989, the U.S. men’s national team had not played

in a World Cup in almost 40 years and the U.S.
women’s program was in its early stages. Since that
time, though, the state of soccer in the U.S. has been
transformed.

In Brazil in 2014, the men’s national team competed

in its seventh consecutive FIFA World Cup. The team Founded: 1913
progressed to the Round of 16 for the second straight FIFA Affiliated: 1914
tournament. CONCACAF Affiliated: 1961

U.S. Soccer is a world leader at every level of the women’s game. The American
women have won two FIFA Women’s World Cups (1999 and 2015) and four Olympic
gold medals (1996, 2004, 2008, and 2012) – an accomplishment unmatched, men
or women, in Olympic competition. The United States has also hosted three wildly
successful World Cups (men in 1994; women in 1999 and 2003) with the support of
its members and anchored on strong organizational abilities.

From a coaching standpoint in the United States, more classes are being offered
around the country, and the number of licensed, well-educated trainers and
managers is getting larger and larger. The education level among coaches has been
tailored to match the expanding pool of talent in the U.S.

U.S. Soccer continues to support the development of referees in CONCACAF, with

a reinvigorated focus on education and training, including the care and nurturing
of professional referees. In 2012, the Professional Referee Organization (PRO) was
created to manage the referee programs and to increase the quality of younger
officials in professional leagues in the U.S. and Canada. The top referees are
considered for FIFA competitions.

NASL IN THE LAMAR HUNT U.S. OPEN CUP
NASL teams have competed in the
Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup since 2012,
having sent teams to the quarterfinals
in three different years.

The Carolina RailHawks, now North

Carolina FC, have had the most
success, reaching the quarterfinals
in 2013 and 2014. The club’s forward,
Brian Shriver, leads all NASL players in
goals in the competition with seven.
The Atlanta Silverbacks also reached
the quarterfinals in 2014, while the
Fort Lauderdale Strikers reached straight year during the competition
the quarterfinal stage in 2016 after in 2016. Both wins came in thrilling
defeating a pair of MLS sides, D.C. fashion, including Danny Szetela’s late
United and Orlando City SC. header to send the Cosmos to victory
in last year’s competition.
The Cup has helped foster rivalries
for NASL teams, regardless of league Played annually since 1914, the Open
affiliation. The RailHawks knocked out Cup (a single-elimination tournament
the Los Angeles Galaxy of MLS three open to all affiliated amateur and
years in a row from 2012-14. The New professional teams) is the oldest cup
York Cosmos have ousted a New York competition in the United States. The
metropolitan-area MLS side three Cup winner qualifies as one of the four
straight years. The Cosmos defeated American teams for the CONCACAF
New York City FC for the second Champions League.

CONCACAF

The Confederation of North, Central America, and

Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) is the
sport’s governing body in the region, and one of
six continental confederations that administer the
sport along with FIFA, the world’s governing body. It
has 41 member associations through offices located
in Miami, Guatemala City, and the Jamaica, and is
composed of a Congress, Executive Committee,
General Secretariat, and several other committees.

CONCACAF – formed in 1961 from the merger of

the Football Confederation of Central America and
the Caribbean (CCCF) and the North American
Football Confederation (NAFC) – consists of three
sub-regions: North America (three countries), Central Founded: 1961
America (seven countries under the regional entity FIFA Affiliated: 1961
Unión Centroamericana de Fútbol - UNCAF), and the
Caribbean (31 countries under the regional entity Caribbean Football Union - CFU).

At the CONCACAF Ordinary Congress held on April 19, 2013, in Panama City,
Panama, five national associations that previously held associate member status
– French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Martin, and St. Maarten – became
full members. The island of Bonaire was accepted by the Congress as an associate
member.

As the administrative body for the region, CONCACAF manages competitions,

offers technical and administrative training courses, while also actively promoting
and developing the game.

The biennial Gold Cup for full national teams and the annual Scotiabank
Champions League for club teams are CONCACAF’s most visible competitions. The
confederation organizes championships at the U-17 and U-20 levels for men and
women that lead to direct qualification for FIFA competitions. It also supports FIFA
in coordinating qualifying tournaments for the World Cup, the Women’s World Cup
and Olympic Games, and also the Beach Soccer and Futsal World Cups.

ALL-TIME U.S. PROFESSIONAL OUTDOOR CHAMPIONS

When the New York Cosmos won The Championship Final in 2016, not
only did the club win its third title in the Modern Era, but the club’s
eighth title in a single league, moving into a tie with Philadelphia
German-American of the American Soccer League (ASL) with the most
by a United States professional outdoor soccer team.

Below is a brief listing and history of other U.S. professional outdoor

clubs and the professional titles they’ve won:

Philadelphia German-American
was founded in 1933 and
competed later that season in the
second version of the American
Soccer League (ASL) until 1965.
During the 1953-54 ASL season,
the club was bought by trucking
magnate and renamed Uhrik
Truckers. The club in total won
eight ASL titles by finishing first in
the regular season with no playoff games taking place. The Philadelphia
side did win one U.S. Open Cup in 1936.

Fall River Marksmen, who

originally played as Fall River
United before being named after
their owner, Sam Mark, began its
