Foreword
The descriptions and service procedures contained in this manual are based on designs
and methods studies carried out up to November 2004.
The products are under continuous development. Vehicles and components produced
after the above date may therefore have different specifications and repair methods.
When this is judged to have a significant bearing on this manual, supplementary service
bulletins will be issued to cover the changes.
Service procedures which do not include an operation number in the title are for general
information and no reference is made to V.S.T.
The following levels of observations, cautions and warnings are used in this Service
Documentation:
Note: Indicates a procedure, practice, or condition that must be followed in order to have
the vehicle or component function in the manner intended.
Caution: Indicates an unsafe practice where damage to the product could occur.
Warning: Indicates an unsafe practice where personal injury or severe damage to the
product could occur.
Danger: Indicates an unsafe practice where serious personal injury or death could occur.

Group 35 External lighting control unit Malfunction
General information
Component: Control Unit LCM, (external lighting) (A27).
Fault code
FMI 2
Intermittent or incorrect data.
Conditions for fault code:
• If the control unit cannot communicate via SAE J1939,
it will assume there is a fault and a fault code will be set.
T3014623
Possible cause:
• Interruption in the cable between the LCM control unit
and other control units.
• Short circuit to earth in the cable between the LCM
control unit and other control units.
• Short circuit to voltage in the cable between the LCM
control unit and other control units.
• Faulty LCM control unit.
Noticeable external symptoms:
• Yellow lamp on.
• Message shown on display.
• Brake lights do not work.
Appropriate check:
• Fault-trace the SAE J1939 control link, see separate
service information group 371 “Data links, fault tracing”.

General information
The program memory contains rules for the control unit
functions.
Fault code
FMI 2
Intermittent or incorrect data.
T3014623
Conditions for fault code:
• If the control unit cannot use the software, the control
unit interprets this as a fault and a fault code is stored.
Possible cause:
• Fault during programming.
Noticeable external symptoms:
• Red light is lit.
• Limp Home active.
• The external lighting control unit is not working.
Appropriate check:
• Reprogram the control unit.
