What is the relationship between psychology and Computer Science?


Answer
In this modern world of Science, Psychology is very much related to Computer
Science as it is related to biology. There is a separate subject being taught in
institutions known as Human Computer Interaction which focuses on Human
Psychology and how a particular individual would want his application to look
like. In this subject, the designer do a bunch of activities to know about a person’s
likes and dislikes and what do they want from the designer. Software engineering
and HCI consistently rely on psychology research and use research methods
developed by psychologists. There are also Artificial Sciences and Cognitive
Sciences that deal with Humans and Human Psychology. Cognitive Science deals
with minds using computational tools and models.
Computer science is poised to have a tremendous impact on psychology. Besides
experiments and questionnaires, it establishes a third fundamental research
technique: the observation of human-device interaction on a very large scale. It
allows psychologists to analyze variables such as personality traits (extraversion
versus introversion), aptitudes (political), and cognitive functions (cognitive aging
process), as well as behavior (hazardous driving behavior or active lifestyle).
Computer systems are ultimately used by, or at least run for, humans; systems have
to be designed with this in mind, and the goals of research ultimately come down
to human factors. Outside of research entirely contained in one area—theoretical
work meant to further other theoretical work; systems research answering
questions to improve other systems—you expect most projects to be at least guided
by some sort of human factors.
There is a term used in Computer Science, Memory. Memory is actually a
Psychological term used in Computer Science field very extensively. Psychology
and computer science have many deep relations and many connection points. We
can express that computers can be very helpful in some psychological research and
also in psychological practical therapy. On the other hand, psychological
knowledge can be useful for development of new information systems and new
programs for many applications.
